September 30, 2018 going to Crater Lake National Park

Image
We headed north towards Crater Lake, stopping in the small village of Prospect,  where we picked up lunch to take with us. We arrived at Crater Lake and drove around a bit, went into a visitors center and watched the video (it was good)...…...it was kind of chilly, so we took our lunch into a gift shop/cafĂ© and ate there before heading out to drive around the lake. Crater Lake is magnificent!!!  We drove the entire Rim Drive and here are a few pictures:  The last thing we saw was THE PINNACLES, which involved a bit of a drive off of the RIM DRIVE. Drove to Mellita's Motel in Chiloquin for lodging...… We had supper at restaurant in nearby casino. I had the fish and chips which was very good.

Had breakfast at our lodging and then headed north driving along the coast, stopping occasionally to take pictures.   Went to a Visitors Center for the National and State Redwoods Parks and got info about Jedediah Smith State Park...………..we drove through it, stopping once to have a snack and a couple of other spots to take pictures.  We did not find this park to be spectacular.  We continued on into Oregon. The highlight of the day was lunch at In-n-Out Burger in Grants Pass.   Continued on to Medford, stopped at a Kohls and MA found a new duffle bag. We went to Target for a few items and then found our lodging. We took stuff in and then  I drove Mary Anne to church, dropped her off, went back to room and did some stuff, including washing a load of my clothing.   I went  back to the church to pick her up. We decided to just snack out of what we had with us instead of going out for supper.  MA did her laundry, I helped her.  Watched INDIANA JONES movies on tv.

After breakfast at our lodging, which was pretty good,  we headed to Trees of Mystery a bit north of Klamath in order to take the gondola ride above the trees. We found it easily and paid $14.00 for admission to the Sky Trail and the gondola. The walk up the trail was really neat... we saw.lots of different trees. It seemed like more than 1/3 of a mile to get to the gondola.  The gondola ride was pretty neat.   At the top we climbed to a lookout spot and then back down and then we took the gondola back down and walked a different trail back to the gift shop.  This trail had wooden carvings from various stories. We decided to have lunch at TREES CAFE right across the road. I had the INDIAN TACO, whichwas on Indian fry bread..........it was very colorful and very tasty.   I could not finish all of it Then we went to the gift shop.  In the museum, I bought two small decorative items, I will give one to Betty who is getting my mail and checking on my

We had breakfast in our room at the STONEGATE VILLA in South Leggett, using groceries I purchased yesterday in Fort Bragg.  We decided to go to the Drive Thru Tree attraction but wanted to explore  Leggett before going.  So we went to the Leggett Valley Mercantile MaryAnn  purchased a t shirt and shopped while I took pictures of some abandoned places in S. Leggett. We  headed out to  Chandelier  Drive - Thru   Tree  Park in  Leggett , and we each paid ten dollars to get in.  I  I walked through so I could take pictures of MA driving through.  I left a rock beneath a sign. Then we  headed to the AVENUE OF THE GIANTS.  It is so beautiful.  We stopped and had a picnic lunch of crackers and cheese, grapes, etc.  Spent some time walking around amid the huge trees and taking pictures. Stopped to look for geocache in Redcrest but we had NO LUCK, but Mary Anne enjoyed a gift shop and I took pictures of some abandoned spots like this phone booth which I THOUGHT h
