Tuesday June 26th, 2018 in Rome
Mary and I headed first to the Rome Sand Plains. The directions we had did not help, so we went to the Chamber of Commerce for help and we still had trouble, but eventually we did find a trailhead for a great hike.
Then we went to the abandoned Erie Canal Village which closed a few years ago.
Then to Ferlo's Original Bakery
and then to a park for lunch. We met Anthony
who manages a program for kids there, he took us around, explained what they do, introduced us to other staff and showed us the pool.
Then we decided to go to Sylvan Beach, but we stopped at Gaultieri's on the way. Parked near the public beach in Sylvan Beach and walked along the shore
and also walked around the amusement park,
hoping the building that offered games was open (sign said it was), but it was closed. We located the lighthouse
and then drove around the state park and then decided to drive around Oneida Lake. Saw a neat store,
but it was closed. Mary mentioned a place that sells travel trailers in Cicero,so we decided to go there and look around,
and then completed our drive around the lake.
To Rome for supper at DiCastro's. Stopped at the abandoned (and posted) Salvation Army Camp, drove in and took a few pictures.
and finally got back to the cottage and collapsed, after a VERY long and busy day.
