Saturday August 31st, 2019

Friday the 30th I drove home.  I took the thruway all the way.  I stopped at one of he thruway rest areas and had lunch at a Roy Rogers.  I was exhausted when I got home, but I started putting stuff away. Saturday:  I am still pretty worn out from my trip.  I helped Peggy out in the garage today.  We found a lot of bottles, a few very old picture frames, and BEST OF ALL:  a large ceramic Christmas tree, and it still works.  Peg said I can have it. Betty picked me up at 3:45 and then we went to get Myrna and we met up with Peggy, David, Pam and Amber at THE AMHERST BUFFET, so we could all have dinner to celebrate Peg' 58th birthday.  While Peg was getting food, I talked to David about he and I starting to plan a birthday celebration in two years, when Peggy turns SIXTY! We all ate too much and had a great time.

Botanical Gardens in Oriskany and more: August 29, 2019

Carol Kraft arrived at the cabin at ten a.m.  She, Lesley and I visited for a while and made plans for the day.  We decided to go to Oriskany to the PARKER F. SCRIPTURE BOTANICAL GARDENS, and walk the trails and do some geocaching.  Carol agreed to drive. The gardens (just outside the wooded area that has hiking trails) are beautiful  Carol asked me to take her picture and post it on Facebook with this caption "Where in the world is Carol Kraft?"                  I particularly liked the Fairy Gardens   Leslie noticed this interesting plant with black leaves and black berries. The trails are nice, easy to walk and uncomplicated. Due to yesterdays rain, there were some wet spots which we had some difficulty getting through or around.   Carol found the two geocaches along the trails.  One of them had this rock in it, which I took.   We had a nice picnic lunch behind the Coopera...

August 28, 2019 in Rome

Woke up to heavy rain.   I think this was the morning that we noticed an adorable little chipmunk running around the inside of the cabin.  We shooed him out the back door and hoped that he would not remember how he got in. Because of the rain, we had to come up with a plan to do things inside.  First we went to the ROME HISTORY MUSEUM.   The curator of the museum gave us vague directions to FORT STANWIX and suggested that we check to see if the church next door was unlocked.  St. Mary's and St. Peters was open and we went inside. We drove around in a couple of circles before finding a place to park for the fort.  We ended up parking along the street very close to the museum and church.  It was kind of "misting" rain most of the time at the fort.   By the time we left the fort, it was raining a bit harder.  We attempted to find the mall that has several theatres (according to someone I spoke with in the camp office).  ...

8/27/19 PIXLEY FALLS, LYONS FALLS and more!

Leslie and I drove to PIXLEY FALLS STATE PARK. (well, she drove since I drove yesterday). We first found a geocache behind the office down this trail:  and then did some hiking in the area of the falls. The trails are nice, but rough in some spots.  The falls are beautiful (there are more than one).   Then we headed up towards LYONS FALLS. Along the way we stopped to get a geocache here.    On the way to Lyons Falls, we found ourselves in the Village of Turin, where we saw a couple of abandoned places.  I think this was THE VILLAGE CAFE.  In Lyons Falls, we found a path to a place to see the old paper mill which is being torn down.   We went to a nice Farmers Market in a park, where we had a picnic lunch, and shopped (I bought a strawberry rhubarb pie from an Amish fellow  for only six dollars). and picked up a few free books.  At the FM, we found out about the local history museums b...

I had an uneventful drive to DELTA LAKE BIBLE  CONFERENCE arriving around 11:30 or maybe a bit earlier.  I called Mike because he wanted to know that everything is OK.  Leslie arrived about 45 minutes after me. She had brought the makings of PBJ sandwiches, and I contributed some potato chips and that was our lunch.  We met Joy, our next door neighbor.  We got somewhat settled in and  then headed out for an afternoon of geocaching.  We found ten out of ten!!!!  Most were in the sculpture park.   We could not find the FOOD TRUCKS that we thought were supposed to be set up across from City Hall.  We picked up some groceries at Sav-a-Lot, and took them back to the cabin and put them in the frig.   We had pizza at CIRCLE K (former Nice 'n Easy).  It was pretty good.  Then back to the cabin.
