February 25, 2021 Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room

I have wanted to eat at Mrs. Wilkes since I first heard about it three years ago.

Today was a beautiful weather day, so David wanted to go golfing.  He had reservations for a golf course near Savannah, so Peg and I dropped him off and then we drove into Georgia and found Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room.

I think we arrived about one p.m.

While Peg paid for parking, I got in line to get a table.

Normally, meals are served inside FAMILY STYLE, meaning that a bunch of customers are all seated together at a table and the food is brought in serving dishes to the table.  But now, because of the pandemic, all food is served at tables outside now.  You choose a meat and three sides from this menu.

I chose fried chicken, butter peas, red rice and cabbage.  Peg chose chicken and dumplings and yams. We located a table and disinfected it.  We were told there would be a 45 minute wait.  I took a short walk, about 20 minutes and when I returned, Peggy had gone up to pick up our box of food.  Everything is packed in a box to take to your table

And there were a lot of extra stuff that we did not order in the box and instead of four pieces of fried chicken there was  full bag with probably eight or nine pieces.  We also got several pieces of cornbread and muffins, pound cake and banana pudding, and lots of other stuff. We barely made a dent in our food, and packed up many sides in our small cooler.  Eating here was a really nice and interesting experience.

We then went to pick up David and headed back to HHI.  We stopped at a thrift store near his golf course, and got gas before getting back to the condo.  David had supper out of our lunch leftovers and there is still a LOT left.

We settled in to watch the news and Peggy did a load of laundry.
