SUNDAY, February 28, 2021 Day Trip to Daufuskie Island

We skipped church this morning because it was the only good weather day available to take a ferry to Daufuskie Island.  We were able to book seats on a small private ferry service (Vagabond Cruise) from HHI to Daufuskie.  We had to get up a bit earlier today in order to be at the ferry site by 8:30.  There were about 12 other people on the ferry with us.

The trip over took very close to one hour, and was a bit chilly due to being so early and the fog.  When the fog lifted it immediately warmed up.

When we got to the island we proceeded to the General Store where we picked up our rental golf cart.

We had a map of the interesting/historical sites on the island.  Since we wanted to see as much as possible, we were kind of pinched for time and had to move right along.   This is the OYSTER UNION COMMUNITY HOUSE, recently refurbished.

Lunch at Lucy Bell's Cafe was very good.  I think the coleslaw was the best I have ever had.

Small model of PRAISE HOUSE. We found a geocache close by.
I think this is the school that Pat Conroy taught in, and wrote about.

We returned our cart to the store on time and sat at a picnic table near the harbor until our ferry came in. It was really disappointing that most of the passengers did not show up on time.  The captain had to go look for them, found then sitting at the bar of THE OLD DAUFUSKIE CRAB COMPANY, and tell them it was time.  So a half hour of our time was wasted.

The ride back was pleasant and a bit shorter than the morning ride.  We went to THE CRAZY CRAB, and our supper was delicious!  The CC is a more upscale dining experience.
