May 25th, 2021 First FULL Day in Letchworth

Leslie found her GPS, it had slid down between the passenger seat and the console in my car.  YAY!!! It turned out to be a rather hot day and we spent most of the day in the park.  We looked for several geocaches that we did not find.

We drove to the north end of the park in order to find GIBSONVILLE, which contains the remnants of a CCC camp and a two part geocache.  The first part involved a short walk into the woods on the opposite side of the road from Gibsonville, where we found a cache that had a key in it to open the final geocache.  So we did that and crossed the road and followed the trail.

This sign is along the main road in the park.
One of the few remnants of the camp.
This muddy waterfalls is close to the place where we found the final geocache.

The trail took us to the CCC chimney and an informational sign.   The chimney has been restored and is quite beautiful.  There is very little left in the line of ruins  besides the chimney.  After seeing it, we continued walking the trail to look for a geocache.  The trail also took us to the muddy waterfalls.  Our GPS's were taking us all over the place and I think we were about to give up when all of a sudden my arrow switched directions and took us back to an area we had already been in, just beyond the waterfalls.  I found the large geocache and Leslie retrieved it and opened it.

After signing, we headed back to the car.  Leslie offered to return the key to the first cache, so I let her. I was getting tired so I told Leslie that I wanted to go into Mt Morris and find a place to have lunch, so that is what we did.  We found  BUILD A BURGER, a cute and colorful place.

I had the special of the day, a turkey club with macaroni salad.  Then we got gas and ice and drove through a car wash since there were a few LARGE spots of bird poop on it.

Then we headed back into the park.  We parked near the park police station to walk a trail (HIGHBANKS TRAIL) to a couple of gorge overlooks and find a multi-geocache.  Unfortunately, we got caught in a wild and very windy rainstorm, and spent some time waiting it out in a shelter right along the bluff

and then traipsing back to the car through rain and puddles without finding the cache.   Turns out that I wasted the seven dollars I paid to have my car washed.

The weather cleared up quickly and we returned to the site of one of the geocaches we did not find the day before.  Turns out it was a virtual and we had to answer several questions.

We had supper out of the food we had brought with us, under a particular shelter that we liked near the path to the UPPER FALLS.
