May 26th, 2021 Out and About (Letchworth Trip)

This was our (Leslie and I) second full day of our trip.   We have spent the past day and a half IN the park, hiking, geocaching and exploring.  Since geocaching here is so difficult we decided to go outside of the park and geocaching in the area west of the park.  But first, we had breakfast at the GLEN IRIS, where we were staying.  I had oatmeal, which came with a huge carrot/bran muffin and fresh fruit, along with a cup of hot tea.  Leslie had pancakes and sausage.  My meal was delicious.  Our two breakfasts came to around thirty dollars, by far the most expensive breakfast I have ever had. Leslie treated me instead of giving me gas money, since I have been doing all the driving around during this trip.

After we were done eating, we got together information about the geocaches we wanted to find and headed out.    Our first stop was near Lamont where we found our first geocache THE GONE WITH THE WIND GEOCACHE at a neat old cemetery.

and not far away we found RIP LAMONT in a newer cemetery.   In the village of Castile, I noticed this and stopped to take  picture:

I hope nobody was home when this happened.

I would have loved to find the geocache BIG TREE, LITTLE TREE, which was hidden along a very narrow path along a creek, but the ground was very wet from an earlier downpour and we would have gotten our feet soaked if we followed our GPS's.

We didn't find every single geocache that we looked for, but we found seven altogether.  My favorite was at this very old burial plot

The Tallman/Pond Family Plot which is actually in Silver Lake State Park (but we did not seem to be in a park).

We ended up eating lunch out, too, at this place:
just outside of PERRY, NY.  It is quite a neat place which offers a lot more than food:  miniature golf, a drive in theatre, etc.  I had a grilled chicken sandwich which was very good.
After that we looked for a cache called PIONEER CABIN at what appears to be somewhat of a historical village owned by the historical society.
The sun was in my eyes, so I did not see exactly what I planned to capture.
We could not find the cache but we enjoyed seeing the old buildings including this school.

and whatever this is!

After that we went to a local park and looked for four geocaches and found two of them. One required a long skinny item with a magnet on the end to retrieve.  Soooooooooooo, while we know where it is, we were unable to get to it and sign the log.

We decided after that to head towards our HOME AWAY FROM HOME, but headed in the wrong direction and ended up back at CHARCOAL CORRAL, so I decided to have ice cream.

Dairy free DOLE WHIP.  It was pretty good.  We got directions to the Perry Entrance to the park from someone there, and continued on our way.

I think we got back to the GLEN IRIS at around five p.m. and we rested a bit and then went to our favorite picnic area (a shelter near the UPPER FALLS where we have had several meals) where we had a light supper, and then we walked to the Upper Falls and saw it from below. It was well worth the walk.
I found this rock near the Glen Iris.

We were both worn out so we turned the lights out at ten p.m.
