August 26th, 2021 DAY FOUR of TRIP TO AUBURN/FAIR HAVEN

After a breakfast of Cheerios with banana we set out for BEECHWOOD STATE PARK, to explore the abandoned girl scout camp and geocache.  It was terribly, terribly hot and I suggested to Leslie several times that we had enough and wanted to go back to my air conditioned car.  She ignored me.   We met the caretaker, who was mowing the lawn, and stopped to ask if we needed help.  He was somewhat familiar with geocaching.  We found two geocaches, a virtual by large rock called  (Gneiss & Erratic)and one called BRO, that was in honor of a brother finding his 1000th geocache.  We found a woman camping in one of the lean-to's, she said her sisters had gone to get food.  She seemed to be straightening up.   This is a picture of their camp.  There are LOTS of these kind of half cabins all over the prk.

She said they have camped there for several years, but always in a different spot. We also met another camper who had stayed two nights and was pulling her wagon of supplies out to the parking lot.  She had dropped an item, and I picked it up, she showed us what she uses it for.

We could not find FOXES REVENGE and WELCOME TO BEECHWOOD.  We saw a LOT (maybe all) of the abandoned girl scout camp buildings.

After we left Beechwood, we found a virtual at a sign for a POW CAMP, with some questions that

needed to be answered. And then we went to the SODUS POINT LIGHTHOUSE, where we found a bench in the shade and had our lunch before going into the lighthouse.

In this picture (below) you can see the other lighthouse, which is at the end of a pier.  You can walk out on the pier, but it was too hot to do that.

I had been to the lighthouse before, two years ago with Marlene, so while Leslie looked around the museum, I sat on the front porch and also went to the car and switched from sneakers to sandals.  After that, we went to the public beach, which had a lot of swimmers and sunbathers.  We took off our shoes and waded for fifteen minutes or so.  I picked up some rocks to take home.  After that we looked for and found a geocache that was along a one third of a mile trail, a very nice trail in the woods, behind the town (red) barn. We are not sure if we found the SODUS POINT NATURE LOOKOUT geocache or the Macyville Woods geocache.

We headed back towards Fair Haven, making a couple of wrong turns and backtracking once (in confusion), and stopped at a McDonalds near or in  Wolcott.  I checked my email and FB using their free wifi and had a pink lemonade iced drink, and a blueberry muffin.  Then we continued on to Fair Haven, where we checked out two eating places, not being particularly impressed with either.  Back at our motel, we rested and watched the news (ISIS attacked our military and set off a couple of bombs today, killing several of our troops and other people).  We watched Biden make a speech LIVE .He looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders, and I feel so bad for him.  He caused this terrible catastrophe, but only because he has a bit of dementia, and should never been elected to be president.

We weren't really hungry but wanted a little something to eat, so we went to the pub that I had checked out earlier.    THE STICK AND RUDDER

and each ordered an item off of their small menu and shared. Pulled pork sliders and meatballs.  The waitress/bartender was super friendly.  After we ate, we walked around a bit, and found a cute little Visitors Center.

Then it was back to Screwy Louie's where we watched some tv, and relaxed and I uploaded pics from my camera to my laptop, and we reviewed the geocache finds from today.  It was a good day and I was so happy to be IN an air conditioned place.
