April 28th 2022 in Colorado......................GHOST TOWN

Christa felt that today would be a good day for her to resume driving.  So, after we were both ready for the day (around eleven thirty a.m.) we drove around the community a bit.  She felt comfortable so we headed out for the day.  Our first stop was O'Malley's Mercantile in Watkins, Colorado.  This is a very nice store that carries pet supplies, baby chicks, some clothing and lots of other items including some very nice jewelry. I saw a bracelet I liked in a glass case, but the owner could not find the right key to open it.

Then we headed to a semi-ghost town I had mentioned to Christa the other day DEER TRAIL.

Deer Trail was founded when the Kansas Pacific Railway built a station in what is now Deer Trail in 1870. The town was platted by the railway in 1875 and soon became a shipping point for grain, livestock, and eggs. By the late 1920s Deer Trail grew into a town larger than it is today with two banks, five grocery stores, and three hotels. The Great Depression of the 1930s took a major toll on the town's economy, and a further blow took place in June 1965 when a devastating flood destroyed or severely damaged the businesses along main street. Many of these buildings were never rebuilt. Deer Trail hosted the first rodeo exhibition on July 4, 1869.

We found it easily.  Christa waited in the car while I walked around the old area at one end of the town.  I found the bakery but it was closed 1st street is the street that appears to have been Deer Trail's Main Street.  Beyond 1st street are the railroad tracks.

There are lots of abandoned buildings on both 1st Street and 2nd Street.

When I was done exploring and taking pictures I suggested we find a place for lunch. Deer Trail did not seem to have any places to eat.  We headed back the way we came, going through Strasburg.  We tried to find a place for lunch in Strasburg, but there didn't seem to be any.  We ended up in Bennett and had a nice lunch at the High Plains Diner.  Then we went to KING SOOPERS and bought groceries.  Christa found a very nice plant.  I gave her forty dollars towards the groceries which cost over a hundred dollars.  Then we went back to Christa and Nikolai's house in SKY RANCH.

After resting a bit, I started supper while Nik and Christa took Oliver for a walk.  For supper we had pasta with pesto sauce, asparagus and something like naan garlic bread.  Then we watched more of the third season of KILLING EVE.
