Sunday October 27th through Saturday November 2024

SUNDAY the 27th:   Before going to church, I went to the First Presbyterian Church for the Deacon's Basket Raffle.  I only saw a couple of items that I could use or that I liked but I purchased twenty dollars worth of tickets anyways.  Church was good.  After church, Glenda, Marlene and I went to APPLEBEE's for lunch.  I had a burger and fries, which came with a huge salad.  It was very good.  I took half of the salad home.  I spent the rest of the day at home.  In the early evening, I figured out how to add contacts to my new phone and texted Pam, just to make sure I know how to use that feature.  I worked on my flickr account and I started watching THE MARLOW MURDER CLUB on PBS.

MONDAY:  I went to my eye appointment with Dr. Fetterman.  It went well, no problems and no issues with glaucoma or retinal detachment.  New prescription with slight changes.  Then I went to the Y to meet up with Pam.  She tried to reach me by phone because she could not make it because her daughter locked herself out of her apartment. She came to the Y to tell me.  I reassured her that it was OK and she should just go and help her daughter.  I walked a little bit over a half an hour and then picked up lunch at Arbys to take home. I called Betty and found out that she is sick.  She agreed to take Pam's place at the Lockport Cares event next month.  I called LOCKPORT CARES to order the lunches for my group of four. (Betty, Maggie, Peggy and I).  I spent some time putting contacts into my new phone (716 727-1367).  I went to my two p.m. appointment with the new Lockport Dermatologist (Dr. Bax from Roswell).  I was seen by a PA who was very good.  I am going to cancel my upcoming appointments with Dr. Dee and ________.  When I return in six months, I will be seen by Dr. Bax.  When I got home, I got my camera and took a short walk  and I and took a few pictures of the fall color near my house. I particularly like this photograph.

Then I spent the rest of the day at home.   I got a burst of energy in the evening and did a load of laundry and vacuumed the family room.  I prepared myself a cheese quesidilla, made a beet salad and some tuna and had that for supper, along with a few pieces of fresh pineapple.  I put together one of my Christmas boxes, the one for a boy five to nine years old.  I need a couple of specific items in order to complete it.  I finished reading the book LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS in the evening.

TUESDAY:  It is kind of nice to have a break today, since Life Group was cancelled because Cindi is away.  I had plans to start right in with getting small tasks that I have been putting off done, but I turned on youtube and this came up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTnV5RfhIjk so I decided to check it out.  It is Bari Weiss of The Free Press moderating a debate between Sam Harris and Ben Shapiro.  The topic is Harris or Trump?   It is very good.  While watching it, I decided to change purses.  I have been using that particular purse (the one Peggy gave me for Christmas a few years ago) far too long, evidenced by the huge number of tissues, pens and chap sticks that I pulled out.  I worked on my list of financial assets and this took a lot longer than I had planned it to, but it is ready to go and I will print it out tomorrow.  After my nap I returned to reading the article GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICAN JEWS IS ENDING in this magazine that I got at the library near WALTON WOODS the other day:
The article is very long and very interesting.

WEDNESDAY:  In the morning, I paid bills online and worked on completing my financial document to get ready to send to Megan and Christa.  At noon, I met up with Paula at POT-of-GOLD for her birthday lunch.  I was surprised at how nice and how large this place is.  It looks like a dive or a hole in the wall kind of place from the front.  However, it is very nice and very clean.  I had a steak sandwich and Paula had a salad.  Service is not all that good, though and I was disappointed when my very messy sandwich (with chips and a pickle) came in some sort of basket, making it hard to eat.  I went up to the bar and asked for a fork and that worked well.  Paula is finished with treatments and only needs to have a scan every three months now.  She gained twenty pounds throughout her diagnosis and treatments and is going to join the Y next week.  After we finished lunch, I asked her if she wanted to go for a walk and she said she didn't.  I decided to go to the Y and walk.  I tried to reach both Pam and Jan, but neither one of them answered.  I went to the Dollar Tree and bought a couple of items for one of my Christmas boxes and then went to the Y and walked for about twenty minutes and also did the recumbent bike for about eight minutes.  Then I went home where I spent the rest of the day.

THURSDAY:  I woke up (late) to a gorgeous day and decided I MUST go outside. I first called Maggie to see if she might be free.  She was on her way to an appointment.  I asked her if she would be coming to PIZZA AND PRAISE tonight at Freedom Church and she said she didn't have any money to buy a pizza with.  I told her that I would provide pizza for three people, me, Jan and her and she agreed to meet us there.   I made several more phone calls until I found someone who was free to take a walk.  I met up with Deb Seymour at the LYTLE NATURE PRESERVE.  We had a very nice and kind of long leisurely walk, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I took lots of pictures.  When we were done, I asked Deb if she wanted to go to BURGER KING for lunch and she agreed.  We met up there and each had the five dollar meal special.  After that, I went home and checked phone messages and FB messages and called Little Caesers and ordered a Chicago Deep Dish pizza for five thirty pick up.  Then I took a nap and when I got up, I got ready to go to pick up the pizza and go to Freedom Church.  I met up with Jan and Maggie there.  There was a LOT of pizza to choose from

and I had two small pieces.  Jan only ate a small portion of one piece and Maggie had a few slices.  We went into the worship service, which was very good,

but we left after about fifty minutes.  I spent the rest of the evening home, watching TV.

FRIDAY:  Nov. 1, 2024   I met up with Jan and Pam at FREEDOM CHURCH at nine thirty a.m.  Lori did not show up.  We went to the Bazaar/Craft Sale at the church in Gasport.  We each found a few items.  After dropping them off, I dropped off water bottles at the place on Lincoln Avenue, and then went to DOLLAR GENERAL to look for some items to put in Operation Christmas Child boxes and then I met up with Gail and Peggy at The Fieldstone for lunch.  We all had the soup and salad bar.  Then we all met up at Peggy's house to work on the boxes.  This did not go as well as Peggy had planned it to because Peggy and David had to be on phones working out details of Yolanda's paperwork to get into Mt View Assisted Living and a mysterious $2,500 withdrawal from one of their bank accounts.  However, Gail finished up her boxes and left them with Peggy.

I brought the three boxes I worked on home with me so I could get a few items to add to them.  When I got home, I was so tired that (after checking phone messages and email), I laid down on the couch and fell asleep for a while.  When I woke up, I called Pam and asked her if she wanted to come over and get caught of on the new show MATLOCK, with Kathy Bates as the main character.  She said yes, and was over within twenty minutes or so.  We watched three episodes and now both of us are caught up. We both really like that show.

SATURDAY:   In the morning Elaine and I solidified our plans to go to Gasport and pick up turkey dinners (by donation).   I worked more on the Christmas boxes and made a list of items I need in order to complete three out of the four that are not complete.  Peggy came over and worked in the garage for a little while.  Deb came over and Elaine picked us up and we headed to Gasport for the TURKEY DINNER DRIVETHROUGH.  When we arrived about forty minutes before the event started, there was already a line of cars on 31.  We turned around and got in line. The line started moving around three fifteen.  We picked up our dinners and headed back to Lockport.  The three of us enjoyed our turkey dinners at my place and then sat and talked for a while.  Elaine had brought the "shrug" that she made for me.  It fits well and is so comfortable.  I turned my clocks back in the early evening and watched LAW AND ORDER SVU.  I showered and washed my hair. I was exhausted since I missed my nap and went to bed early.
