DAY EIGHT of Alaskan Cruise: Thursday, September 18, 2025 Skagway

This was what I saw out the window when I got up. The RUBY PRINCESS had stopped and we were in Skagway!

We had breakfast at the Botticelli (I had a soft boiled egg, toast, oatmeal and a banana) and then we returned to our room to get ready for getting off the ship and going to Skagway.  We got tickets for Shuttle #10 and went down to wait to be called.  Things moved along fairly quickly. The shuttle boat was one of the lifeboats,

it took us to the mainland.

This is a view of the RUBY PRINCESS from the port.

When we arrived we took a shuttle to the downtown area where we walked around a bit. The downtown area has a lot of interesting shops, etc. but we did not have time to go in many of them.  Here are a few pictures:

We found a geocaches in the library

(hooray). And you can see it in this picture that I took.

We picked up a few free items from various jewelry stores.  There were a lot of jewelry stores, and we did not have time to go in them all.   We caught a shuttle back to the port area and found our sightseeing shuttle.

(this was an excursion that we purchased before the trip).  The best part of this shuttle tour was when we stopped at the GOLD RUSH CEMETERY and were allowed to get out and explore for a few minutes.

After leaving the cemetery we passed a spot where we could see a huge (fake) gold nugget, but I was not able to get a picture.

The driver told us about this free museum in the downtown area and recommended the movie offered there,  we had seen it earlier, while checking out Main Street,   It is also known as the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, or THE CHILCOOT TRAIL CENTER.  It is a great museum.

so we returned to it. Before we got there, David was talking about the CHILCOOT TRAIL, and it turned out that there was a good exhibit with lots of information about it.

The movie turned out to be very interesting, also.

These old buildings are around the corner from the TRAIL CENTER, and I should do some research into them.

After that,  we shuttled back to the port. When we got back to the ship, we dropped our stuff off in our room and went to have supper at the Michelangelo.   I had salmon and it was very good.  We stopped at the International Cafe and I got something that was like cranberry jello.

That evening, Peg and David went to the show but I stayed back in order to shower and wash my hair.   After Peg and David returned,   Peggy and I went to EFFY's and got a free pendant.  Back in our stateroom, we chose the movie INTO THE WILD and watched some of it.  It was a great day!!!  Skagway is a very interesting but very touristy place.  I would like to return.
