WEEK of SUNDAY, October 13th through SATURDAY October 19th, 2024

SUNDAY:  Church was VERY good this morning.  I was trying to save seats for Elizabeth and Marlene, but Elizabeth did not come to church and Marlene was late and someone else took the spot I was saving. There was a bake sale put on by the youth in the lobby after church, but the lines were long and it was so crowded that I didn't even really look at what was offered.  After church, Marlene, Sue Rouse, Glenda and I went to LaPort's for lunch.  We all had the turkey dinner.  It was SO MUCH FOOD, and each one of us took food home with us.  On the way out, we ran into Wayne and Sharon Dent, and I recommended the turkey dinner to them.  I walked with Marlene over to the bank where I had parked.  She has a new car!!!  She said there is a story connected with her getting it.  When I got home, I immediately got into warm pajamas since it is so damp and cold outside.  I put a podcast by Victor Davis Hanson on SPOTIFY on tv and laid down on the couch and dozed off for a while.  I rested most of the day.  I talked with Elaine in the evening.  We will go, along with Sarah, to SOLID ROCK on Tuesday for their spaghetti dinner.

MONDAY:  I made plans with Pam to meet up at the History Center and see the art exhibit.

I took these pictures while I was waiting for Pam to arrive.

Unfortunately, when she arrived and we went to the front door, we realized that it was closed due to it being Columbus Day.  So, we went to the Y in order to walk.  Marlene showed up after we had walked fifteen minutes or so.  I had called her earlier, but she did not get back to me before I left.  Marlene told me the story about how she ended up purchasing a new car.  I think she made a mistake:  A FINANCIAL MISTAKE, since while she has a newer car, with lower mileage, now she has an over four hundred dollars per month car payment.  I doubt if she will retire at the end of this school year now that she has that to deal with.  After we were done at the Y, Pam and I went to COUSINS for lunch, and she treated me.  She recommended the new show MATLOCK, with Kathy Bates.  I watched it at home, and I love it.

TUESDAY:  I went to the Ladies Life Group this morning.  There were nine or ten of us there, a few arriving late.  It was very good.  They were starting to discuss going out to lunch when I left.  I went to Niagara Produce to get milk and bananas and picked up a small SOUP OF THE DAY for my lunch.  I only wanted a very small lunch because of my plans to go out for an early supper later on.  The soup was chicken noodle, and it was very good.  I did a couple of things around the house and then laid down for a nap, getting up at three thirty.  Elaine picked me up a little bit after four p.m. to go to SOLID ROCK for their spaghetti dinner.  She told me that Sarah was going to meet us there.  Once there we joined Betty and Elaine Vincent, and Sarah also sat with us.  Becky was there, but I didn't have a chance to talk to her.  Erica Joan was there, and she stopped at our table, and I introduced her to Elaine and Sarah (by this time, Elaine V. and Betty had left).  Elaine, Sarah and I stayed for a half an hour or after we were finished eating and visited.  Sarah invited us to continue our conversations at her house, and I was glad when Elaine declined.

Sarah told us about a PURSE AUCTION, an annual event at the Lockport Salvation Army, next Tuesday the 22nd at five p.m.  I tried to find some information online about this event, without any success.  I spent the rest of the evening at home, watching TV and working on adding pictures to my blog from the Quebec trip.

WEDNESDAY:  I decided to stop procrastinating and make some necessary phone calls.  I called PureTalk and ordered a new phone which will arrive via FedEx in two days (I think).  CHECK.  I called the office of Michelle Farino and left a message saying I want to set an appt at the Dale to go over my Medicare options for 3035 CHECK.   I called WNY MRI and made appointment for my DEXA.  Then called Artemis to request new script listing WNY MRI instead of Windsong. They agreed and said I do not need prior authorization. Then WNY MRI called and told me they were cancelling my appointment due to no prior auth.  So, I called Artemis again, and the worker who answered will check with her supervisor and get back to me.  I called the Salvation Army and got information about their PURSE AUCTION next Tuesday evening:  five p.m. pasta dinner   six p.m. auction.... proceeds to a couple of service agencies.  I am signed up and can bring anybody I want with me. I spoke with Barb Dupre. CHECK

I met up with Jan at the Y and we did our usual thirty plus a few minutes walking.  Then I went to WalMart to return a couple of items and then I took my laptop to JB Computers and dropped it off. I told William that I had a doomsday message from Microsoft, and while I knew they could help me with this over the phone, I decided to bring it in for updating and cleaning out.  It will take about a week.  I had a turkey sandwich for lunch.  Peggy called to ask if I know anything about the spaghetti dinner at the Royalton Center Methodist Church and I told her what Betty and Elaine Vincent told me: that when they had spaghetti there last month, they were told that it was the final spaghetti dinner, that they will not be offering it anymore.  I told Peggy about the PURSE AUCTION next Tuesday and she will go with me.  Then Becky called and she said she will come, too.

I found the movie THE MIRACLE CLUB on Netflix.  It is SO good.

THURSDAY the 17th  I went out to the library and a couple of other errands, and drove down to Cold Spring Cemetery hoping to see some good fall color,

I was disappointed, but I did take a few pictures.

I think this is my best picture.

When I got back home, Peggy was just leaving from working in the basement a bit.  I had lunch and then took a nap and got up in time to take a shower and get ready for the CareNet Banquet.  I met up with Peggy at her house and we went to Niagara Falls to pick up Gianna Jessen who was the speaker at the banquet.  She was delightful on the way to Classics V.  The theme this year was FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS.

She survived a seven and a half months saline solution abortion and was put into foster care before being adopted at, I think, age seven.  The banquet was wonderful!  It always is!!  Gianna gave a great talk.  Here is a picture I took of Peggy with Gianna Jesson.

Mike and his friend Chuck and Chuck's wife Cassie and Mike's neighbor Bob Bil (I think I have his name right) were at our table.  Mr. Bil is 94 years old.  Also, Pam Campanini, Crystal Schmeelke and her husband and David's brother.   It was a very good meal, too.  I got home a little bit after ten p.m. and turned on the State Department's Press Briefing about the death of Hamas leader Sinwar.  He was shot and killed by the IDF late last night, Israel time.

FRIDAY the 18th:  I had to stay home to wait for delivery of my new phone.  It came a couple of hours after the time specified by FedEx.  Unfortunately, for me, the package did not include the plug for the charging cord.  I called and was told that this particular phone does not include it, so I am on my own to find one. I did a few organizing tasks around the house while waiting.  Mostly it was going through maps and brochures and deciding what to keep.   Also, I organized the book case next to my kitchen table, and combined a few folders and threw a lot of stuff out.  Peg and David went to the factory tour that I had found out about and said it was interesting but not as good as the Confer Plastics factory tour we took a few months ago.

SATURDAY the 19th  After breakfast, I called Carrie's home and asked if this morning would be a good time to come over and see her.  I was told that everyone in the house is going on a several hours outing. I made cheesy biscuits finishing up the box of Cracker Barrel biscuit mix that I bought the last time I ate at Cracker Barrel.  Also, I missed up the cookie mix that Peggy brought me home from their last trip and refrigerated it. I called the CHECKERED POPPY and asked if I could donate some items to be sold to raise money for the Challenger Sports Program, which I think is run by Heritage Christian Services.  The owner/operator said they would be happy to accept the items I told him about:  several "Christmas Village" pieces that I had colleted over the years.  I decided to keep one (the LED church) which I will donate to Peggy's raffle during the Christmas event.  I boxed them up a long with the LIGHT UP LOCKPORT Christmas ornaments (still in their original boxes) that I won in a basket raffle years ago.  After dropping them off, I went to Miller's and purchased a sandwich and some groceries, and a pimply pumpkin. They have all kinds, sizes and shapes of pumpkins,

squash and gourds in large boxes in front of the store.

On the way back to Lockport, I stopped and took a few pictures.  I stopped at the park at Widewaters and ate half of my sandwich and also took a few pictures, and I went to Outwater Park and took a couple of pictures.

When I got home, Peggy and David were finishing up a few tasks around the house.  David cut down a hanging limb on the chestnut tree.  After they left, I baked the cookies and ate two of them with a glass of milk.  They are pretty good.  RED VELVET.  They taste like chocolate.
I spent the rest of the day at home.
