Day Two at Lighthouse Christian Camp (Thursday, August 23, 2018)
Weatherwise, today was an absolutely perfect day. It was not too hot, it did not rain, the humidity must have been very low and the sky was a gorgeous blue! After showering and having breakfast, Pam and I headed out to Golden Hill State Park. We stopped at the registration building and picked up a map of the trails. We decided to hike the "Red Trail"
because some of it was right along the lake, and would take us to a grove of large, old oak trees. We were not disappointed. Here are some of the pictures I took.
Things took a LONG time to cook or heat up, but eventually we were able to eat and everything was delicious. Then Pam made a campfire and
we toasted marshmallows and made s'mores! It was a fun and exhausting day, and I slept great.

The best part of this trail was that we were able to get right on the beach. I loaded my pockets with 25 rocks!!!
Pam took off her shoes and socks and waded along the shore a bit.
We spent a bit of time here, exploring and enjoying the beauty and the sound of the waves. After getting back on the trail we found the OAK GROVE which has trees that are as old at 300 years!
We completed the trail which was triangular shaped and brought us back to where we started. Here are a few more pictures.
We returned to our cabin and prepared lunch, and then rested for a bit. We decided to go sightseeing on Route l8, just to see what we might find along the way. This is on Route 18.
We got off of 18 for a while and saw a few interesting things like this sign, which we could not decipher.
we found ourselves in Kuckville (which we had explored before) and a private community called LAKESIDE. We crossed this bridge, but felt compelled to turn right around and leave the community because there were people around.
Then I decided to show Pam where I used to live in TROUTBERG 1972-76. None of the houses on that road look anything like they used to back in the seventies. The huge old hotel on the camp property still stands, but this picture shows how overgrown the trees, grass, bushes etc. have become over the years.
People were using the addition on the east side of the building, which you can see here. The huge old portion is to the left of that but almost entirely obscured in this picture.
After leaving Troutberg, we headed back towards our cabin...……….taking the Hamlin Beach Parkway for a while. We stopped at a different Amish farm stand and purchased two ears of corn for our supper.
Once back at our cabin, we rested a bit and then started our supper on the grill. We had hotdogs, summer squash, Campbells pork and beans and the corn on the cob.
