DAY THREE OF OHIO TRIP: 4/10/19

We slept in a bit later this morning.  We went to Walnut Creek and used our coupon for a free breakfast at Rebecca's Bistro.  I had the creamed eggs because I had never had them before.  It was bits of hard boiled eggs, bits of bacon etc. in a cheese sauce over a slice of sour dough bread. It did not look very appetizing, but it was very tasty and filling.
After eating, we went into a nearby shop:  The Walnut Creek Antique Mall.

It is a large Amish run shop.  I purchased a CD of the music that was playing and a couple of other items.

Then we headed to THE BEHALT.
We purchased tickets and then watched a short movie about it.  We were in the gift shop after the BEHALT tour and were offered the opportunity to have lunch with an Amish family.  We  joined a group of students from Cambodia who are on an exchange program at a Christian school, and two adults who were with them.  A guide led us around the circle and told the story.

After that Pam and I looked around the gift shop.  As I was walking towards the cashier I heard her say "Do you want to have a meal in an Amish home?"   I guess she was talking to Pam.  As it turned out, Ellen (I guess she is a teacher) had paid for fifteen seats at the meal and there were several seats available.  We learned a  bit more about it, and it was decided that we would follow their van to the Amish home.

It turned out that the meal was served in the "shop" of the owners.
A few men joined the group after we were seated.  We were served  green salad, "wedding chicken", meatloaf, mashed potatoes, noodles, green beans and then black raspberry pie and peanut butter pie.
I had small pieces of both kinds of pie.
Ellen and Emery and their students, with Pam in the forefront.

Then Heidi took us on a tour of their lovely home.

Heidi told us that she was adopted by David and Esta Hershberger, as were some of her siblings.  She told us that her brothers have left the Amish.  Their home is beautiful, with lots of Christian sayings on display.  They have several horses including some miniature.  David works for a rehab place known as OPERATION 6:12.  He uses this vehicle.  I think this Amish family is part of a more liberal group.

After we left the Hershbergers place, Pam and I decided to find a few of the places that we had coupons for free items.  THE ASHERY COUNTRY STORE, YODER'S DRIEDS AND GIFTS where we got a free slotted serving spoon and I used the very clean porta potty.
and a bakery.  We also went to a surplus store, and saw a couple more schools, and lots of children walking home from school.

We were both pretty tired, and I had developed diarrhea (perhaps from all the rich food), so we went back to our room early, arriving about 4:30 p.m.  We decided to NOT go out for supper.  We both rested and had bread, crackers, cheese, and fruit for supper around 6:45 p.m.
