Sunday, July 18th 2021 OLD FASHIONED DAY at the East Shelby Community Bible Church
The East Shelby Community Bible Church
has built and maintains a small village across the road from the church which they call West Jackson Corners which was the original name of East Shelby. Twice a year (July and December) they offer an event to the community. Betty and I went to the December event a few years ago and have wanted to go to the July event since then. We missed one due to a CONNECT event and last year they did not have the event due to COVID. So, this year we were happy to be able to go. We skipped our own church this morning planning on attending the Old Fashioned Church Service at eleven a.m. in the East Shelby church. However, the time printed in the newspaper said eleven, but it started at ten a.m., so we missed all but the final ten minutes, which was VERY good. The first building we visited was the West Jackson Church. West Jackson was the original name of East Shelby.
Then we crossed the street and got our lunch. They had several kinds of pie to choose from.
I chose rhubarb, which was very good. Then proceeded to walk around the village.
The woodworkers shop. The ladies were baking items such as bread and muffins in this BEEHIVE OVEN. I bought a bag of penny candy at this store:
We decided we wanted to have a tour of the East Shelby Cemetery where some founders of the church are buried. We rode in a trailer pulled by a tractor. We had a very good tour guide, a young man who grew up in the East Shelby Church
Then we returned to the village.
There were activities going on in the building next door to the church, including an old time apothecary and Mrs. Santa was upstairs doing activities with children, where we saw this neat train.Later on we decided we needed a horse and wagon ride.
It took us to the new red barn where entertainment was offered as well as homemade ice cream and popcorn. We did not go inside.

I think we left around three p.m. or a little earlier. We stopped at Elaine and Al Edmister's house to drop off a few pieces of pie and visited with Al for a little while. Elaine had gone to a graduation picnic for one of her relatives. We also stopped at TOPS where I purchased four ALMOND yogurts that I can use with the granola I bought at Millers last week.
When we got back to my house, I gave Betty a serving of baked beans for her supper.
I talked to both Barb and Elaine in the evening. The CLASS OF 1967 "girls" will meet for a picnic type lunch at Day Road Park tomorrow. Elaine and I firmed up our plans for tomorrow evening when I will pick her up at 6;30 for the re-enactors event at the Palace Theatre.
I watched a few episodes of RETURN TO THE CHATEAU on Penguin TV.
Peg called to ask how the OLD FASHIONED DAY was. She and David had a lot of water in their basement yesterday when we got a LOT of rain.
