Tuesday, October 7th, 2025 SECOND FULL DAY In AIlegany: it was a SALAMANCA DAY (rainy)

We had a pretty solid plan for today:  to go to Salamanca and get wood, go to the Salamanca Museum and also go to the casino to use coupons for $15.00 free play.  We all got up at the agreed upon time which was eight thirty and got ready for the day.  Leslie drove and we went to Salamanca and located the museum.  We saw the strangest thing when we were looking for parking near the museum.  A man in an upper floor of a building was throwing pillows and other bedding down into a dumpster.  I would say it was probably four floors down.  Turns out it the DUDLEY HOTEL, which had been vacant for several years, but has been purchased and will soon be renovated.

Once we entered the museum we were greeted and given a private tour by a fellow who really knows the history of Salamanca.   The Salamanca Area Historical Society Museumis located in a beautifully restored 1882 bank building consisting of 3 floors of displays and themed rooms.  Our guide gave us some information about  FENTIER VILLAGE, which I was interested in.  Turns out that the land is now owned by APOLLO CANNA COMPANY.  Before going there, we went to see the empty buildings of the Salamanca Rail Museum, which is closed because the SENECA NATION did not renew their lease.  Just down the street from the museum, they took the railroad cars from the museum.  Here is a picture of the cabooses.

Then we went to the APOLLO CANA COMPANY (who owns the property that used to be Fentier Village).   I was interested in seeing the only remaining building, the church, but it was roped off and not visible from the outside and the one guy working could not give us permission.  Leslie had the idea that if we went upstairs (two floors to this dispensary) we might get a better view, and she was right.

I guess I could call this story WHEN URBAN EXPLORING TAKES YOU TO A PLACE YOU NEVER PLANNED TO GO.  This place is really nice, lots of comfortable spots to sit.

The young guy working there must have chuckled to himself at the three old ladies who were not at all interested in buying any pot or weed, or flower (that term came from Maggie).

Then we had lunch at the Chinese Buffet, and then went to get wood at BUNDLE OF WARMTH, and then to the casino, and we all got our free fifteen dollars of play.  Both Maggie and Leslie won over forty dollars.  Here are Maggie and Leslie:  I think they are trying to figure out how to cash in.

After getting gas, we returned to the cottage.  I prepared the makings for BLT's for supper, and we had those with hot cider which hit the spot.  All three of us spent the rest of the evening reading and relaxing.  No fire tonight since it had rained off and on all day.

I think this rainy day may have been the BEST day of Allegany Trip Fall 2025.
