Week of Sunday October 12th through Saturday October 18th, 2025 CHERRY CRUMBLE RECIPE

SUNDAY October 12th.

Church was very good, several people were baptized.  I don't know this lady, but she is battling stage four cancer.

After it was over, Jan, Glenda, Peggy, Lori, Louise and I went to APPLEBEE's for lunch.  I had the special with the grilled chicken sandwich.  It was good, but the French fries were not as good as they usually are.  I went home and took a nap.  I spent the rest of the day at home.  I got caught up on TV shows that I missed last week and worked on my trip pictures on flickr.

MONDAY:  October 13th.  I was kind of planning on meeting up with Peg at the Y to go to a class in the pool at nine a.m. but I was still in bed at nine a.m.   After breakfast, I called Jan and she and I met up at the Y at twelve fifteen.  In the evening I found the movie THE HOMESMAN that I had seen before.  Hilary Swank stars in it and is VERY GOOD.

TUESDAY the 14th:  I went to Life Group this morning and then we went (me, Cindy, Carol, Glenda, Lori and Karen) went to the HONG KONG BUFFET for lunch. The prices there have gone way up, and the staff was abrupt this afternoon.  I spent the rest of the day at home.  I worked on my blog and on my flickr pictures.  I found out from Peggy that Dee McDonnel is in Buffalo General.  She was taken there from Harris Hill Nursing Home earlier today when she experienced chest pains.

Pam called.  She is kind of depressed.  I encouraged her to call Mary Shaw and see if she can still get into the UB Research Study at the Y that starts a week from tomorrow.    I doubt if she will commit to it and even if she does, she may not complete it.  I think it would be good for her.

WEDNESDAY:

I met up with Jan at the Y and we walked for a half an hour.  Then I went to Panera and got a drink and a bagel.  Then I went to the DOLLAR TREE and got some items I need and some items for Operation Christmas Child boxes.  Then I met up with Peggy at Freedom Church and we went to Buffalo General Hospital to visit Dee McDonnel who was in rehab after a fall, but then had difficulty breathing so was taken to Buff General.  She was in very good spirits.  While Peg and I were there, a physical therapist came in and helped Dee get out of bed and into a recliner.  Apparently, this is the first time she has done this.  She did well and did not seem to be in pain during the transfer.

Earlier today, I messaged Lori and asked if she wanted to come over to watch a movie tonight and told her that if she wanted to pick supper up, I would pay for half.  I decided to cancel because I am really worn out.  When I called her, she was in a car on her way back from Letchworth.  So, it really was not a good day for her to come here in the evening because she is probably worn out, too\\

I worked on my Flickr pictures from the cruise and made some headway.

THURSDAY:   It was a two event day, very busy, with some fun and way more.  I slept kind of late and kind of skipped breakfast and had an early lunch before leaving for the Y for the Senior Social which was PAINTING PUMPKINS.  Jan did not show up, but Andrea did and it was not was kind of fun and not as easy as I had been thinking it would be.  Pumpkins and paint were provided as well as stencils and lots of ideas.  I painted both sides of my pumpkin (two faces).  Andrea had a particularly hard time and I think she wiped off the painted faces twice.  Some of the pumpkins turned out very good.  I took several pictures.

After that I went home and took a nice nap.  When I got up, I got ready to go and Andrea picked me up.  I was at table 21, and so was my brother Mike, as well as his neighbor Bob Bill, Mikes friend Chuck and his wife, Cassie, Marlene and Teri Ackerman and her husband.  The presentations were very good and the meal was prepared by Donna Eick and was EXCELLENT.  I enjoyed it all SO MUCH!!!  And, of course, I took pictures.  After the event was over, Peggy told me that she is very upset after a texting conversation with Cassandra earlier today.  It is So disappointing that Cassy has swallowed the far left garbage.

FRIDAY:    I think I slept through the night for the first time in ages.  I started the soup in my large crockpot and made a double batch of corn bread adding a can of creamed corn and a bit of br. sugar and eliminating one egg and some of the milk.  Then I looked for a recipe using a can of cherry pie filling and found this

CHERRY CRUMBLE

  • 6 tablespoons butter

  • 1 ⅛ cups all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup rolled oats / I added close to one cup

  • 6 tablespoons packed brown sugar (I added a bit less)

  •  teaspoon salt

  • one 21 ounce can cherry pie filling

  • MELT BUTTER in large saucepan (I used my orange

  • when butter is melted add the other ingredients and combine until looks like dried crumbs (I thought they were pretty big crumbs).  Press 2/3 of mixture in 8 or 9 inch baking pan and then put on top the cherry pie filling and put the rest of the crumb mixture on top.  Bake in 375 oven 40 to 45 minutes ingpuntil cherries are bubbling and topping is browned.

  • I had to add a few items to the soup to add some flavor.  It was quite bland even after I added the flavor packet.

  • Lori came over for supper.  We had the bean soup, cornbread and cherry crumble for desert.  The CHERRY CRUMBLE turned out VERY GOOD.  It is very much like the cherry desert that was served with school lunches when I was in high school.

  • We watched the movie: THE TRUTH ABOUT RFK JR.  a 2024 biography/documentaary.    It is excellent and I like him more now than I did before.  He is truly a good man.

  • I gave Lori some soup, cornbread and cherry crumble to take home.

  • SATURDAY:  I visited with Carrie this morning.  Then I returned to Lockport and went to the library to return two books and to Lil Caeser's to get their lunch combo, and then to Niagara Produce for a few items.  In between and after these errands, I went to COLD SPRING CEMETERY

and along the canal near Widewaters to take some fall color pictures.  I passed by THREE events, one at the Kenan Center, on at WideWaters and the Lockport Community Market, but none of them interested me.

  • After a nap, I had a cup of soup, crackers and cheese and a piece of cherry cobbler, and then worked on posting pictures of San Francisco on Facebook.
