Week of August 23rd through 29th, 2026

 SUNDAY  I did not pick Jan up for church this morning because she called and said she slept very poorly and did not feel well enough to go to church.  Church was very good and after six of us went to Applebee's for lunch.  It was me, Glenda, Carol, Cindi, Marlene and Louise.  Glenda ordered a steak, but it was overcooked and tough, so she told the server that she could not eat it, and asked for grilled chicken instead.  Louise and Marlene both ordered mashed potatoes but got french fries instead.  Carol did not eat her salad because the dressing tasted strange.  I think I was the only one whose meal came as ordered.  Cindi did not order anything, since she and her husband usually go to the Mayflower for lunch on Sunday and he stayed after church for a safety meeting.   I stopped at PANERA for a drink before coming home.  I was just getting ready to take a nap when Mary called and we talked for about forty five minutes, I think.  She called to tell me that she does not want to pay the prices that GREAT CAMP SAGAMORE charges for lodging.  I spent the rest of the day at home.  I arranged (via text) to meet up with Cindi at the History Center tomorrow for the art exhibit.  I watched the movie: THE GIRL IN THE GARAGE:  The Laura Cowan Story, and it is very good.  

MONDAY:  I went early to my appointment with Dr. Kurb's so I finished up early and called Cindi to tell her I was free to go to the History Center for the art show.  I met her there at eleven a.m.  She was disappointed, she thought it would be a much larger show with lots more art.  After viewing the artwork, we went into the gift shop and looked around.  We met the new director of the History Center and he is very nice.  Cindi was looking through the t shirts for ten dollars, and trying to get the right sizes for her kids and grandkids, so I told her I was going to head for home.  I had lunch at home and then took a nap and read for a while.  When I got up, I saw that the Monday night cruise with Elvis impersonator was cancelled due to the weather.  Lori offered to bring supper over and I accepted.  I made  quick and easy cherry cobbler for our desert.  Lori brought pork ribs, rice and corn on the cob.  Everything was good.  We watched the movie THE GLASS CASTLE.  I texted Andrea to find out if she will back from Pennsylvania in time for Barker Seniors  on Wednesday.  She said she will be home tomorrow (Tbuesday)

TUESDAY:  I stopped at the library to drop off an overdue book before going to Life Group.  Life Group/Bible Study was very good.  We went to PANERA for lunch. (Cindi, Karen, me, Glenda, Carol, Pam and Dee.  I ordered two items off of the value menu:  a chicken salad sandwich and a bowl of onion soup.  I also purchased a bakers dozen of bagels.  After I left PANERA, I got gas and then went to my dentist for a one fifty p.m. appointment.  Dr. Conley checked my teeth over and ordered X-rays.  The good news is that he did not see any damage to the roots of my teeth.  The dental assistant (Greta) was so friendly, efficient and nice.  I stopped at Niagara Produce and purchased a sirloin steak for my supper.  Shortly after I got home, I laid down for a while, I finished reading the book about the boy who died and his parents donated his organs.  It is one of the free books that I got at the Christmas shop near Mrs. Yoders, when Peg, Andrea and I stopped there on the way back from Cincinnati.

WEDNESDAY:  Andrea picked Lori and I up in order to go to Barker Seniors for the annual summer picnic. We were a bit late, but it didn't seem to matter.  We played BINGO.  I won a game and got a coin sorter bank, which had not been opened yet.

The catered meal was very good.  I brought half of my chicken home with me.  

  I gave it to Lori for one of her grandkids.  After the picnic, we picked Andrea's friend Michelle up so that Andrea could take her to Lockport to pick up her new car.  I had a nap in the afternoon.  Peggy picked me up a few minutes before six p.m. and we went to the SHAMUS for  a presentation about, It wasn't very interesting, and it was very different from the other one we went to a couple of months ago.  After the presentation, we had appetizers (small beef on weck sandwiches and bruschetta).  

THURSDAY:  Early this morning Andrea texted Peg and I, saying she had to do laundry, so would have to miss our ten a.m. prayer meeting. I suggested she bring a load of laundry and do it here a my house, and we could hold our prayer session while her laundry was being done.  She agreed, and so did Peg, but we got off to a bit of a late start, a few minutes after ten thirty.  It went well.  Andrea folded her laundry while I had a quick lunch before heading out to my dermatologist appointment.  This was my first time ha aving Dr. Mary Louise Lenahan do my check.  I really like her.  After that, I went to TARGET and to FeelRite, and then to Paula's Donuts.  I stopped by the Kenan Center wondering where exactly the MOVING VIETNAM WALL

 was situated.  It seems to be in a tent right off of the parking lot.  I also stopped at Niagara Produce for a couple of items.  When I got home, I was exhausted. I put stuff away and crashed on the couch.  I think I slept a bit.  

FRIDAY:  In the morning, I concentrated on necessaryy phone calls.  I called UNIVERA, mostly about the possibility of them paying for a sleep mouth device. I started the procedure over the phone.  I called MEDICAID.  Unfortunately, they will not reimburse any copays that I pay to providers who do. I called  accept Medicaid.  When I called Dr. Chubineh's office to change an appointment, I asked and he doesn't  accept Medicaid.  I will stay with him anyways.  I had  an early nap and then went to WalGreens to pick up a prescription.  On the way there, I passed a bad car accident that must have just happened a couple of minutes earlier, in front of the SHAMUS.  I started reading Leslie's book in the early evening.  I like it, but I am not sure it will be something that publishers will want.  

SATURDAY the 29th.  In the morning, I called Cassandra to wish her a Happy Birthday.  We talked for about fifteen minutes.  She turned 26!   Their plans for the day were to go downtown, and go to a book sale at the library.  I went online and cancelled my STARZ account since I only used it once or twice in eleven months. (a dollar a month special). Then I read some in Leslie's book.  I decided to go to the Community Farmers Market to see if I could use one or two of my Farmers Market coupons.   There was live music.

I did not purchase anything.  Then I went to the 3rd Ward Block Party at Ida Fritz Park.  I walked around to see what was offered, and I got a FREE hot dog and a FREE burger, which I brought home.  I ate half of each one for my lunch.   I took this picture of one of the Lockport Fire Trucks.

  Peggy came over a little after one.  We went over to Betty's house and switched cars, so she could drive Betty/s car. We went out to HOOVER to visit with Carrie.  Then we returned to Lockport and switched cars again.  I prepared lunch for Peggy since she had not had any.  She had a bagel with cream cheese and some potato salad.  I took a nap and then got up and threw together a venison meat loaf.  I included some homemade barbecue sauce when I mixed it up.  I was surprised that it tasted great!
