October 7th, 2018: MANZANAR and ARRIVAL IN DEATH VALLEY

We left our lodging in Bishop pretty early this morning,
after breakfast in our room (provided by America's Best
Value Inn),  We headed south towards MANZANAR
MANZANAR was great!!!! 

First we spent some time in the museum/visitors center

and then we drove around the remains of the camp.

After leaving there, we stopped in LONE PINE

Pine and had chicken and french fries and ice cream at FROSTY CHALET. 

We noticed a Visitors Center as we turned towards Death Valley National Park, so we stopped.  It was for Mt. Whitney.  MA stamped her passport and purchased some post cards.

We drove towards DV, making a few stops along the way. We HAD
to top to watch some cowboys drive their black cows across
the road.

Father John Crowley Point was very picturesque.

We went through Panamint Springs.  We finally got to Stovepipe Wells and went directly to the Ranger Station/Visitors Center. It is not much of a Visitors Center but we were able to get maps, etc.

When we found the registration desk for our lodging we were told

we would have to wait a couple of hours before getting our room, since it was not ready yet.
    We decided to do some sightseeing since it was still early.  There was a nice breeze which made it quite comfortable.   We chose to go to the Keane Wonder Mine.  On the way there, we stopped at the Mesquite Sand Dunes

and Corkscrew Peak.

The mine was wonderful.  I explored for about a half an hour

while MaryAnne waited in the car.  I took a lot of pictures and I picked up some interesting rocks.

      Then we headed back to our lodging where we secured our room. It was a front room (#10) right on the main road,  spacious but kind of sparce.

But it did have a flat screen TV, which we had to have reprogramed before we could use it.  It was within walking distance to restaurants and shops.  We decided to finish our sandwiches that we purchased at the Tioga Gas Mart  for supper instead of eating in one of the restaurants.

The sunset was gorgeous and I took a few pictures.

MaryAnne had plenty of time to spend in the gift shop that evening, without me rushing her along.
