WEEK OF SUNDAY, June 30th through Saturday July 6th 2024

SUNDAY:  Church was very good AGAIN!!   After church, Marlene and I went to Betty Stover's house to deliver our checks to pay for our trip to Canada in September.  Then I suggested to Marlene that she come to my house for lunch (but I called it Sunday dinner).  We had the leftover beef and cabbage things I made yesterday and potato salad and four bean salad.  We watched the AMIR TSARFATI broadcast from five years ago THE GENERATION THAT WILL NEVER DIE.  Then I took a nap in order to be rested for this evening.

Before church started this morning, Cindi asked me if I was going to the Josh Vacanti concert at Lighthouse Christian Camp tonight.  I told her no, I was not planning on going since I don't drive after dark anymore.  She said she would drive and take Dee and I.  She asked a few other people, but they did not want to go.  She picked me up a little after six p.m.  The concert was great!

  Josh and his wife, Sam.
They offered refreshments after the concert, but Cindi and Dee did not want to stay.

MONDAY:  I had my appointment with Dr. Kurbs this morning and then I checked Peggy and David's mail and also went to VALUE to return an item.  Then I went to the Y to meet up with Jan and we walked about 35 minutes.    Before going home, I stopped at Niagara Produce and purchased some strawberries and a few other items.  I sliced the strawberries, mashed part of them and refrigerated them.  I spent the rest of the day at home.  Pam came over in the evening and we had strawberry shortcake and iced tea and played a couple games of SEQUENCE.

TUESDAY:  We had a different kind of Life Group this morning.  We watched a video of Tim Keller teaching about Jonah.  It was REALLY good!  After that, Karen, Dee, Glenda, Marlene and I met up at LaPorts for lunch.  I had a half a turkey salad sandwich with a cup of bean with ham soup.  We had a very nice server (Jody, I think).  I spent the rest of the day at home.  I called Michaelene in the evening to see how she is doing.  She seems to be doing OK and said she does not need anything.

WEDNESDAY the 3rd of July 2024
I met up with Jan at the Y and we did our half hour walking, plus a few extra  minutes.  During our walk, Jan told me that she has to give her cat, Everett up.  The veterinarian noticed all the scratches on Jans arms and told he she needs to take Everett back to the place she got him.  Then we went to this event:  All it really turned out to be was a free lunch but it was a very good lunch.  Burgers and hot dogs, salads, watermelon, chips and cookies for desert.  We were among the first people to arrive.  We found a good spot to sit and when the burgers and hot dogs were ready, someone insisted that the ladies go first.  I did not want to be the first, so I waited a bit and then headed up.  We were able to get printed information about the SALT AND LIGHT Festival and an ice cream social at SAVE THE MICHAELS.  I spent the rest of the day at home, including a short nap.  Pam and I had been planning on going to the parade, but since it is so hot and humid, we decided against going.

Peggy called.  She and David were near Old Forge looking for a geocache, one that I found (according to logs they are reading) several years ago.  Peg was hoping I could tell her where it is.  Like I remember!

I decided to make myself a pizza for supper, using a gluten free crust mix I bought a while back.  It did not turn out all that well.

THURSDAY July 4th, 2024

Jan came over to my place and I drove us to this event:

Elizabeth and Elaine Vincent were there.  I found two books, a button-down shirt, a circle pin and TWO FENTON HOBNAIL SALT CELLARS!!!!! I think I spent five dollars.

I am particularly happy about getting the amber colored salt cellar.  These items have pretty much disappeared from antique and collectible shops.  After that, I drove to the Hartland Corners hiking trail, behind the fire station.  We walked a little way in and then turned around because it was so hot and humid.  Then we drove up to the lake.  We stopped at a yard sale, found nothing there.  We went to Krull Park and took a nice walk and then headed south on the Transit, stopping at Hillers where I got some sweet corn, a tomato and a quart of HOOVERS chocolate milk.  I took this picture at the rummage sale so that I could save the information:
They are having an ice cream social at this event.   I had lunch at home (fried bologna sandwich) and took a nap.  When I got up from my nap, I had messages from both Pam and Jan saying that they were not going to the fireworks.  Marlene and Lori met up here at my house.  Marlene drove herself and Lori went with me.  When Lori and I got to Christ Community Church, Marlene was nowhere to be seen.  We figured that she did not feel well and decided to go home OR she found a better event at a different church!  Ten or fifteen minutes later, she walked into the parking lot.  She had parked at the pizzeria on Main Street and walked over.  We set up the three chairs that I keep in the back of my car.

It turned out to be a nice evening, with free food and Christian music.  There were not a lot of people there, I think about thirty.  Someone shared this picture on facebook:
Fireworks over Old City Hall on Pine Street.  Apparently, there were a couple of fights that got the police involved on or near the Pine Street Bridge.  I started reading COUNTING THE COST in the evening. All in all, I had a very nice Fourth of July 2024.

FRIDAY:  I met up with Jan at eleven a.m. at her place.  She brought her cat (Everett) out to the car in a carrier.  It took us just about a full hour to get to TEN LIVES CLUB in Blasdell.  I helped Jan with the paperwork to surrender Everett, whose former name was SHADOW SMITH.  Jan held up pretty good.  After that, we headed back north towards Lockport.  Jan asked if I wanted to stop anyplace and since it was noon, I suggested we go someplace for pizza.  She suggested this place:
We each ordered a slice, and I have to agree with Jan.....it is GREAT pizza!!!

The atmosphere is not all that attractive.  If I ever get to go again, I will look at the menu and see what all they offer.

Aftere that, we went to NICK CHARLAPS and we each had a small cone.  I tried the PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE.  It was not as good as I expected it to be.  Next time I will try their Butter Crunch.

Jan suggested that we stop at this huge second hand store:

We browsed for a while, but found the prices to be very high.  Jan said a paperbook book she considered buying was FOUR DOLLARS.

SATURDAY July 6, 2024:  I met up with Pam at her apartment and she drove us to Williamsville, where we found the church where the art tour was taking place.  We watched part of an informational video before we were taken into the sanctuary for a tour.

It is truly a beautiful sanctuary and the wood carvings are magnificent.

I was not sure if Lori was going to make it or not since she told me that she had to go to her bank this morning to try to straighten out an issue with her application for a car loan, but she showed up a bit late and joined the tour late.  After the tour, we drove around the block to see the Orthodox Church:
Then we looked for a place to have lunch.  We chose this place:

I had the TeriYaki Chicken

and it was really good.  Pam had Miso Soup with several items in it.  She said her meal was kind of bland.

We went to Dick's Sporting Goods so I could look for a pair of sandals like Pam's but they did not have any in my size.  Our last stop was at PAULA'S DONUTS.  I spent the rest of the day at home.  I changed my sheets and did a load of laundry.  I wrote out checks and cards for both Dillan and Dominic, Mike's stepsons.  Dillan's high school graduation party is tomorrow.  Dominic missed out on having a graduation party due to the Covid shut down.  I added todays pictures to my flickr account.
