June 8th, 2025 through June 14th, 2025 (Including Trip to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada with Leslie)
SUNDAY THE 8th: I almost decided to stay home from church this morning because I did not feel all that good, but as time went by, I decided I felt good enough to go, so I did. After I had been there several minutes, I realized that I felt fine. At Betty's request, we moved to a row much closer to the front. Peggy said she had seen Marlene in church, but I watched for her and did not see her. Lori had said she would be in church and would be able to go out for lunch, but I did not see her. So, Betty, Glenda and Dee McDonnell went to LaPorts for lunch. I had the liver and onions and brought some of it home with me. After that, I got gas and picked up some pork ribs at Niagara Produce for tomorrows supper when Leslie will be here. I did a few things at home, and then took a brief nap, and then called Leslie to confirm that everything is on track for her to leave Auburn and drive to Lockport tomorrow. She will leave mid morning and probably arrive mid afternoon. I finished cleaning the front porch. Honestly, it doesn't look a whole lot different. I cut up some strawberries and had some with a sliced banana for supper.
MONDAY: In the morning I ran a few errands, to get grocery items, and to deliver donations to the GOOD WILL, and I also went to Panera's. When I got home, I made egg salad for sandwiches tomorrow, and started marinating the zucchini and washed blueberries to add to the strawberry's and then vacuumed. I finally finished and laid down for a bit and then Leslie arrived. I suggested we get updated on the riots in California so we watched todays Ben Shapiro show and then looked for liberal responses to the riots. I provided supper: bbq pork ribs in the crockpot, baked potatoes, zucchini (marinated in orange sauce), garlic toast and strawberry/blueberry/blackberry shortcake with whipped cream. We watched the movie SIGHT on Angel Studios, and more YouTube videos (and some live) about the riots in San Francisco. I packed for tomorrow and took a shower.
TUESDAY: Leslie and I left Lockport in the morning, I think it was going on ten a.m. I drove to Lewiston and we drove across the Lewiston/Queenston Bridge into Ontario, Canada, and then we headed to Niagara Falls, Ontaario, Canada along the Niagara Parkway. We stopped at the LILAC GARDEN and walked around and found a geocache. We kind of meandered along the parkway, stopping at the FLORAL CLOCK which was pretty much bare and then we continued on to Niagara Falls, Ontario to BIRD KINGDOM and parked ($5 for one hour) and then purchased our admission tickets. It was half price day for seniors, meaning we got our tickets for half price). We were there for the full hour and a bit more. I was a bit surprised to learn that this museum is in the building that used to house the Niagara Falls Museum, which I was at years ago, and some items are still there, on the first floor. After that, we headed to our lodging a MARRIOTT on Fallsview Avenue. We were able to check in around two p.m, which was two hours earlier than the guaranteed time I requested a falls view room, and was offered an upgrade to the presidential suite which was actually two rooms on two floors. I declined even before I was given the price. We got settled into our room on the fifth floor and rested a bit before heading down towards the falls. We took the INCLINED railroad down and walked through the building called Table Rock, past shops and eateries, etc. We walked around the nearby area for a while and then took the INCLINED RR back up and went to a TGIF's for supper. We both ordered off of the appetizer menu. Leslie had the macaroni and cheese bites and I had the chicken fajitas. I am glad I ordered off the appetizer menu instead of the regular menu since I could not finish my meal which was really more like a quesadilla. Then we returned to our lodging. Our room was very large and very nice, but did not have a view. We watched news about the riots in Los Angeles. I started reading the book Leslie brought for me by Harlan Choban, Leslie did a lot of switching between stuff on various channels, including a couple of episodes of WHEEL OF FORTUNE.m When it started to get dark we went to the window at the end of the hall to see the lights come on. We decided to go up several floors to see if we could get a better view, and it was better. However, since we were not close to the falls, the colors were not very bright. We were somewhat disappointed. We went back to our room and we turned the light off at eleven p.m. or so.
WEDNESDAY: We both showered in the morning and then decided to go to the restaurant in our hotel for the breakfast buffet. I think the name of the restaurant is MILESTONES. The buffet was quite expensive, but we had a coupon for eight dollars off, which was in our room when we arrived. It was quite a nice spread. I had a bit of smoked salmon, which was pretty good. We went back up to our room and after a short while, we packed up and left, checking out around the ten a.m. I suggested that we drive back to the Lewiston/Queenstown bridge along the parkway and geocache along the way. It took us a bit of a while to get to the parkway and then I thought we were heading the wrong direction, but we were headed in the right direction, but we found that out AFTER the live advisor gave us new directions (it was not her fault though, it was mine. Anyways, eventually we got headed in the right directions and we made several stops along the way and found a few geocaches. We found a geocache across from the Niagara Power Project, it is named A POWERFUL VIEW, and here is a picture of the view that I took:
When we got to the FLORAL CLOCK, they were working on it, and I took this picture: We parked there (across from the clock) and walked a bit to find a geocache called ___________. We stopped at the Lilac Garden to find the other cache, and we found the area OK, but it would have involved a walk through lots of weeds and we were concerned about ticks, so we decided to skip it.
We got onto the bridge OK and into Lewiston and had a late lunch at THE SILO and then continued on to Lockport, arriving at about four p.m. I read a while and then took a nap. We were not very hungry, so we had popcorn for supper. We watched two movies in he evening: THE LONG WALK HOME and INSTANT FAMILY.
THURSDAY: Went to AAA, got maps, dropped book off at library, went to WalMart so Leslie could get a charger for her phone. The clerk in ELECTRONICS gave her the wrong one, so she returned it and we went to T-Mobile and got one, but it was rather expensive. We returned to 17, had lunch, Leslie signed up for (AND PAID FOR) a scavenger hunt in Albion, so we drove to Albion. Found that we had to detour because bridge was closed (Route 98) so we did a lot of extra driving, right around in a huge circle and then had to backtrack to get back to the historical area of Albion where we finally found the first step in the scavenger hunt at a tiny park. WATERMAN PARK.
We were ready to continue but could not figure out how to do so, so Leslie called the HELP number but that was not much help, since the codes she was given did not work and also there was something wrong with their system. We were parked in a dead end area before the closed bridge,
a couple of antique stores may have been open, but everything else was vacant or closed. We finally decided to switch over to geocaching.
and Leslie stopped and I got out and took a couple of pictures. We found three geocaches on the way back to Lockport. We stopped in Gasport and had a pizza at PORT'S. It was good, but not excellent. We arrived home a couple of minutes before eight p.m. None of my internet devices were working, so I spent close to a half hour on the phone with a guy from SPECTRUM, and got the usual runaround that it was not their problem, it was a problem with my LINKSES router. However, it started working a little bit later on.
Leslie decided to take these items so they can be used as BINGO prizes at her seniors group.
