Sunday June 29th through Saturday July 5th, 2025
SUNDAY: . During lunch at LaPorts with several friends (Marlene, Betty, Glenda and Andrea) after church, Marlene suggested that we go to the Arts and Crafts Fair since it was just a half a block away. It was a terribly hot day. We walked through about 2/3 of it before giving in to the heat.
Neither one of us purchased anything. We ran into Wayne and Sharon Dent
and talked with them for a couple of minutes. I was surprised to see so many vendors offering hand crocheted items.
After an attempt at a nap, I worked more on organizing my postcard collection and then I uploaded the pictures I took at the craft fair to Flickr. I found the documentary about Hannah Arendt on PBS.
MONDAY: I left a bit early for meeting with Jan at the Y, stopping first at Good Will and dropping off bunch of stuff, and then at Panera where I got a drink (this time I tried something new,
Strawberry Basil Lemonade Fresca
Jan and I walked about 35 minutes and she asked me if I wanted to go with her to Price Rite Marketplace in Amherst. I agreed, and we left my car at the Y. I was pleasantly surprised at the large size, variety and low prices are this store. I purchased the strawberries for the desert I will be making for David's party/picnic and some bananas and a couple of other items After Jan dropped me off, I went to WalMart, hoping to get an angel food cake.and Cool Whip. I was happy to find the cake! I ran into Allison there (I can't think of her last name), who is a friend of Elaine's from the former Presbyterian Home in Lockport. We talked briefly. When I got home, there was a phone message from Andrea so I called her back and we agreed that she will drive on Saturday when we go to Akron Falls Park for the picnic. Leslie also called and we spoke for a few minutes.
Betty called (this is the first time she has called me in a very long time) to thank me for finding out the name of the restaurant we took Myrna to. Possibly, she is thawing out a bit towards me.
I finished reading SON OF HAMAS by Mosab Hassan Yousef.
I have to admit that I did not understand all of his story, but I liked this book.Tuesday:
Last night I called Customer Service at Native Path because it has been an entire week since they emailed me that my COLLAGEN was shipped. I had to leave a message since it was after hours. However, this morning, the box was delivered. I called Marlene and we arranged to meet at the Kenan Center a few minutes before four thirty p.m. in order to see the current art exhibit, and then go out for supper, and then come to my house to watch a movie or play games. I went through my tall dresser with all of my vests inside and got ride of a couple, and now I have an empty drawer! I bagged up my collection of sea glass to make them easier to move when the time comes. I decided to make strawberry shortcake for tonight when Marlene comes over. Now, I am undecided about what dessert to take to David's 30 year post retirement party this coming Saturday. I took an early nap and showered when I got up, and then I went to the Kenan Center to meet Marlene. I went inside without her since she was pretty late. She only had a few minutes to see the whole show. After that we went to PANERA for supper. I got my free drink, and a half a sandwich and a half a salad. Both were very good. Then we came here to my place and watched a movie on Angel Studios: LIKE DANDELION DUST. It is not based on a true story, but it was really good We had strawberry shortcake and discussed possible events to go to. Next Monday Dr. Peter McCullogh will be speaking (about Covid) at the Chautauqua Institute. I started reading one of the ANN TYLER books that I purchased when I visited Leslie.
WEDNESDAY:
I worked a bit on sorting and organizing stuff to keep or give away (I found the rest of my inkwell collection, including the cobalt blue inkwell) and also called the hotel in Niagara Falls Canada, hoping I could get an explanation for the amount they charged me. It seems that breakfast buffet for two (Leslie and me) was a total of one hundred dollars. I also tried to cancel my ANGEL subscription but they offered me two months at three dollars a month and I accepted. Jan was waiting for a phone call and could not go to the Y I first went to AAA and picked up my new piece of luggage (a bonus for getting a new AAA credit card). Then I stopped t the ParkView Diner and had a foot long hotdog for my lunch. Then I went to the Y and walked a bit, used the recumbent bike a bit and took a Silver Sneakers exercise class and then to TOPS where I got a few items and to Panera for a drink and then home.
THURSDAY:
I went to the Office for the Aged and picked up a packet with coupons for produce, and then to TOM'S Diner to pick up maps for the upcoming Garden Walk. Then I went to Aldi and picked up a couple of items that I need and then to PANERA for a drink. Then I went to the Y and met up with Jan and she and I walked about 36 minutes (in two parts). Before going home, I stopped at SUBWAY and used a coupon and my gift card to get a small tuna sub, which I ate at home. I was able to find some information about Dr. Peter McCullough speaking next Monday at the Chautauqua Institute. So, I called Marlene and passed the information on to her. We decided to ask both Cindi and Andrea to accompany us. I agreed to text both of them. Andrea had never heard of Dr. McCullough but she seems excited to go. I have not heard back from Cindi.
FRIDAY
First thing in the morning, I made the double batch of jello for the desert I will be taking to David's party tomorrow. Then I made the other desert that I basically wanted to try. I will serve it tonight when Lori comes over for supper (she will be bringing pizza) and see how I like it. I found a few more items to give to Peggy so she and Gail can sell them. I had a nice nap after showering and washing my hair. Lori brought a pizza over and we had supper together. A little before eight p.m. we drove separately to Christ Community Church for their FIREWORKS WATCH PARTY. We met up with Lori's friend Anna there, this was my first time meeting her. She seems very nice. I had invited a lot of people: those who came were Marlene, Pam, Dee and Michaelene. Snacks were provided and we all had a good time.
In this picture you can see (from left to right) Anna, Lori, Pam, Marlene, Michaelene and Dee. When it started to get dark, I noticed the beautiful color of the sky so I took a couple of pictures.SATURDAY July 5th.
777 In the morning, I put together the dessert to take to David's THIRTY YEAR ANNIVERSARY of his retirement from the Niagara Falls Police Department. It was layered in a glass crystal bowl. On the bottom, chocolate pudding which I made from scratch, the other layers were sliced strawberries and small pieces of angel food cake and black cherry jello. I cut up some Hershey kisses and sprinkled them on top. I had time for a short nap before it was time to leave. I allowed time to stop at DOLLAR TREE to get some plastic spoons and paper plates, in case Peggy did not have enough. Then I met up with Pam at FREEDOM, and a short while later, Andrea arrived and she drove us to Akron Falls Park. We got lost after entering the park briefly but quickly figured out how to backtrack and get to where we wanted to be. We arrived shortly after Bev and Jan, and Elizabeth. Turns out they had both gotten lost, too, and both of them called Peggy for help. Peggy changed the banner she used for David's birthday:
David was cooking hot dogs and burgers when we arrived.
David's daughter Kelly, her husband and his son, and his youngest daughter, Katherine.
Peggy did a great job:
There was plenty of food and we all had a good time. Betty showed me her new car, which is very nice, and I am so happy for her!! She was without a car for a few weeks. She left early. After David, Kelly and her family and Kathryn left, there were several of us still there and we sat around talking.
While we were visiting, we heard a strange sound and it turned out to be an ambulance. Not far from where we were, a woman who was with her husband and son had a seizure and apparently, her husband called 911. Police and a fire vehicle also arrive. They were all there for quite a while, and eventually, the woman was taken away in an ambulance. Her husband was kind enough to stop and tell us what had happened, and we told him that we had been praying for her. Shortly after that, we wrapped it up. Peggy rode back to Lockport with Andrea, Pam and I. I stopped to get gas before going home.
