WEEK of Sunday, JULY 27th, 2025 through Saturday August 2nd, including Trip to Oakville, Toronto to hear Amir Tsarfiti PEACH DUMP CAKE
SUNDAY: Church was very good, Marcus McFolling spoke. He was not as good as he was the last time because he was talking too fast. Several people went forward to the end. Glenda, Lori, Andrea and I decided to go to THE BIG DITCH, a newish restaurant in the building that originally held the United States Post Office when I was a kid. I don't know what year the post office moved to its new location down the street. Anyways, we were very impressed with the ambiance of the place (it is huge, simple and elegant). There was music playing but it was not too loud, which was a big benefit. I had a turkey wrap which came with hand cut tries.
A couple of the others ordered burgers which were huge and they said they were very good.
Our server was very good. Lori asked again if I wanted to go hear the Buffalo Philharmonic but I was just not in the mood. I spent the rest of the day at home, taking a nap, working on my homework for Tuesdays Bible study and I watched the first episode of the new season of THE GILDED AGE. I had brought half of my lunch home with me, so I had that for my supper along with the rest of the four bean salad. Unfortunately, THE BIG DITCH is not open at lunch time on Tuesdays, but I think we now have one more restaurant choice for Sundays after church. As we were getting ready to leave, I pointed out that we have never gone to THE PENALTY BOX, which is one street away from THE BIG DITCH and it looks like they are open on Sundays. I was there a few times with the girls I graduated from high school with, but never with anyone from Freedom Church. Personally, I have been tired of going to the same places every Tuesday and Sunday. I found Season Three of THE GILDED AGE on the Poldark group in FB and watedhed the first episode.
MONDAY: I watched episode 2 of season three of THE GILDED AGE. I called the Chautauqua Institute and ordered and paid for tickets for Marlene and I to take the historical tour around the grounds on Sunday (the day before we will be hearing the speaker sponsored by the ADVOCACY for a BALANCED CHAUTAUQUA. I also called Dr. Tambars office and made an appointment to have my knees checked, but then I called Elaine's doctor here in Lockport Dr. Schlerer (I think that is the right spelling) and was given an appointment right here in Lockport, where I can also have x-rays done on the spot, so I cancelled Dr. Tambar, whose office is in Niagara Falls. Then I got ready to go out. First, I went to WalMart where I returned the hiking (waterproof) pants, then to the Dollar Tree for toothpaste, then to PANERA where I got a drink and then I met up with Jan at the Y. We walked for a half an hour. I stopped to get pizza at Lil Caesers to take home for my lunch. Becky had left me a phone message and I need to call her back later on today. I had a nap and then put a large potato into the oven for my supper. I did my homework for Life Group. I found a new series about people who lived through catastrophes and watched a few episodes and I also updated my blog entry for the day in Puerto Rico during my March cruise. I messaged Pam on FB and encouraged her to come to Life Group tomorrow, and I think she may come.
TUESDAY the 29th I went to LIFE GROUP and then put to lunch at the FIELDSTONE with Karen, Glenda and Cindi. I had the baked fish and got fifteen percent of using my card from the DALE ASSOCIATION. On the way back home, I stopped and got a drink at PANERA'S and stopped and paid four quarters to get the vacuum for five minutes and I cleaned out the back area of my car and the drivers seat area the seat area behind that. I still have a bit to do in the car before Friday when Peggy, Pam and I will drive to Oakville, Ontario. I finished up the chicken soup for supper. I watched episode three of Season Three of THE GILDED AGE.
WEDNESDAY the 30th : this morning I decided I had to do something about my living room. It was becoming a mess from boxes of stuff that I have packed and an working on. So I spent close to a couple of hours. It does look better, but not much. I got all sweaty, so I took a quick shower before going to meet up with Carrie and Zoe at Cayuga for Carrie's Appointment to get her shot. The appointment went well. On the way home, I stopped at HOOVERs and had a sandwich (Pastrami Melt from the specials list). It was very good. I had a short nap later on in the afternoon and then started getting ready for my trip to Oakville, Ontario on Friday. Peg and I talked on the phone and set a time to leave on Friday. Also, she told me how much I owe her and David for the things they have paid for: excursions, flights, hotels, etc. UGH this is getting expensive. I think we would have been better off going with a group. Lori messaged me that she is FINALLY going to get a handicap tag for her car, so that she can park in handicapped parking spots.
Thursday: I had an appointment with the doctor that Elaine recommended. Dr. Scheler But first I saw Anthony, and then Erin, and then Dr. Scheler came in. That office is run like well oiled machine. They will get approval from my insurance and then I can have a series of three shots in both knees BEFORE I leave for the Alaskan cruise. They also have called in a prescription for Ibupropen for me. I was disappointed to get Dr. S's opinion about OSTEO BI FLEX and COLLAGEN. He has no faith in them, he said all it is is more vitamins. But they won't hurt! I will finish taking the many canisters of COLLAGEN since they were expensive and they offer benefits for skin, hair, etc. I can decide about the Osteo Bi-Flex when I finish this jar. After that, I went to WalMart for bread, milk, juice and some snack items for the trip to Oakville, Ontario which starts tomorrow. I had to go to Niagara Produce for the black cherries and then I went to NW Bank and got some cash. I also picked up a drink at PANERA. When I got home I started a load of laundry, and started marinating some sliced zucchini.
Elaine picked me up a little bit after six p.m. and we went to the library for LIVE CANAL MUSIC with the Heenan Brothers.
FRIDAY, Autust 1st: Pam, Peggy and I left Lockport about 11:45. An hour and a half drive, according to mapquest took us close to eight hours. Here is why: first, Peg made a couple of wrong turns when we were leaving Lockport, then we spent about a half an hour at the border. Then we got off of the QEW hoping to drive some back roads, but this was a waste of time, since it was mostly cities with lots of lights to stop at. We stopped at two McDonalds to use rest rooms. When we got to Oakville, we located THE MEETING PLACE (where we will be tomorrow)and then went to MANDARIN, a huge, expensive and beautiful restaurant that the guy on the Canadian border who checked out ID's told us about! We had a wonderful meal. This place is amazing!!! Lemon chicken!!! So delicious. Deserts galore. Prime rib, perfectly done. The wait staff was always available to take used plates away and pour more water. The decor is beautiful. We had a bit of trouble paying our bill. When I tried it on my own (on some sort of device) they would have charged me something like thirty five dollars for the tip, so I aborted that try and the server who was starting to get a bit harried because all of a sudden there was a long line of people waiting to be seated, had to help me.
And then we went to our lodging at the Hampton Inn for our lodging.
We have two rooms on the top floor. Pam is a little ways down the hall. I told her that as soon as she got settled to come down to our room, but she didn't. I had a bit of trouble getting online, but eventually, I did. Pam had been looking for us but had the wrong room number. When I saw her text asking where we are, I went down to her room and brought her back to our room, where she stayed for a while before returning to her own room.

SATURDAY, August 2nd.
After a very nice breakfast in our hotel, we packed up my car and drove to THE MEETING PLACE. It was clear when we arrived that a LOT of people had arrived earlier than we had. We went through security and got bracelets and found pretty good seats, but not as good as what we had hoped for.
We were given about seventy minutes to go out for lunch and found CAFE PREGO at a large shopping center.
Peggy ordered first and when I saw how huge her meal was, I suggested we share it. It was stuffed cabbage, beet salad and roasted potatoes. Cafe Prego specializes in Polish, European, Slovenian, Eastern European, and Ukrainian food.
It was delicious! And we got back to THE MEETING PLACE in time, and didn't miss anything. However, they may have cut the worship a bit short in order to start Amir's talk on time.

Amir's afternoon talk was really good. Barry's talk was good, but not excellent. Then they had a Q and A session. Peggy left the auditorium to use a restroom and go to the bookstore and after the first two questions, I asked Pam if she wanted to stay or leave and she said she was ready to go, so we left and found Peg and were able to get out of he parking lot before the end of the conference which probably saved us some time. We headed south and east and got onto the QEW. There was a bit of a wait at the border but not as long as it was yesterday. Peggy suggested that we stop at a Burger King and get take out, and we agreed. Pam treated me to supper, I had a Jr. Whopper Meal. I think we got back to Peggy's house around seven twenty or twenty five, and then I took Pam home and got home about quarter to eight. I uploaded pictures to flickr and worked on this blog and did a few reviews on tripadvisor. I found out that there is a MANDARIN in Niagara Falls, Ontario! It may not be as large as the one in Oakville, though.
