Sunday November 8th through Saturday November 14, 2025

SUNDAY: After church, Glenda, Linda, Lori, Carol, Marlene and I went to LaPorts for lunch. Then I came home. In the early evening, I called Stephanie McAdams, daughter of my old friend, Judy McAdams. I have neglected writing to Judy like I used to, and I reassured Stephanie that I will resume that. Peg called and we discussed our plans for our upcoming trip to Cincinnati. I asked her to get a few items of mine out of the bin in her basement and she did. I wrote out a card to mail to Judy. I got my suitcase out in order to start getting ready for the trip. MONDAY: I (and my car) went to BASIL TOYOTA because that tire pressure symbol came on again. Air was added to two of my tires and I was sent on my way. The light did NOT go off, and then the light in the monitor (that shows various things). I had just pulled into WalMart when I noticed that. I called Peggy and told her that we probably should not rely on my car to take us to Cinncinati. Right after I hung up from her, someone from BASIL TOYOTA called and said that they noticed that there is a recall on my car and suggested I return in the afternoon. I asked if they could do it tomorrow morning and was told yes, so we agreed to nine thirty a.m. I went into WalMart and got a few items before returning home. Peggy talked to Andrea and we will take her car on Wednesday when we leave for Ohio.
empt This is what happened when I attempted to upload a photo, exactly the same way I always have. But it shows up just fine in the actual blog. Weird. It is a picture of an old friend/neighbor from Honeoye who now lives down south. Julie Cervini. She broke her femur and had surgery and is recovering in the hospital. The FB post by one of her daughters says she is doing well. TUESDAY: Before going to Life Group, I took a meal over to Elaine and Marsha (chicken and biscuits that I made yesterday), butternut squashand a couple of oatmeal raisin cookies. Then I stopped by Peggy's house to pick up some of my winter clothing (boots and winter jacket) that I had packed up and stored in her basement. I dropped the car off at BASIL TOYOTA to have a "recall" done, and also the need to adjust tire pressure light was still on, so I asked for that to be checked. Also, I told them about the monitor problem. Marlene picked me up there and we went to the church for Life Group, which was very good. We decided to to to the BBQ place across from the Fieldstone for lunch. It was me, Cindi, Lori, Glenda, Carol and Karen. Most of us had the pulled pork stew which was sooo good. (BRUNSWICK STEW) Then Carol dropped me off at BASIL TOYOTA and I retrieved my car. However, they did not do anything about the monitor issue. It did not act up on the way home. I stopped at PANERA's and got a drink and an orange scone. I spent the rest of the day at home, mostly getting ready for tomorrows trip to Cincinnatti. WEDNESDAY: here I am awake at six a.m. waking for my alarm to go off. I have allowed plenty of time to get ready for the day nd the trip. I was ready on time but Andrea was fifteen minutes or so late getting to my house. We got to Movers and Makers fifteen minutes late, but they had barely started. We had a lot of fun EXERGAMING and doing the craft/art project. Then Peggy, Andrea and I headed to Ohio. Andrea insisted in driving ALL the way. We stopped at a GET-GO and took our egg salad sandwiches that I had made at home inside and ate them in their small dining area. A bit later on we stopped at a SHEETZ to get gas and use the bathrooms, and then we continued on towards Cincinnati, and arrived at our hotel around six thirty, I think. Our first room was too small so we re guested a larger room and were given it without an upcharge. This neat mural is in the lobby.
Andrea had plenty of room to set up her air mattress (Queen Sized). We had supper at a Chinese Buffet (Jade Garden?), it was really good. Back to hotel, and unpacked and started getting ready for bed. THURSDAY: Unfortunately, an alarm (must have been on the hotel rooms alarm clock) went off at around five twenty a.m. I don't think I got back to sleep after that. I got up a couple of minutes before seven and showered. We all had breakfast provided by HILTON TRU. It was kind of a small buffet, but it was very good. I had oatmeal, a banana, and a bagel, and juice. After we were fed and all ready for the day, we headed towards Cincinnati. We found the Cincinnati Museum Center, it turns out that it is actually an old train depot, which has been restored and is now occupied by several museums, a few places to eat, and probably more. We purchased our tickets and went directly to the AUSCHWITZ EXHIBIT. When we were about 40% of he way through, we decided to take a break and have lunch We located the "cafeteria" and ordered our lunches and ate there. I had a turkey club and a small salad. We returned to the exhibit and found the spot where we left off. I finished before Peg and Andrea so I walked back and suggested to Peg that we still had time to go to the Holocaust Museum. Peggy suggested that I go ahead and they would meet me there when they were done. I agreed but then I decided I really wanted to explore other areas of the museum. I noticed the CINCINNATI HISTORY MUSEUM but on the door it said "EMERGENCY EXIT" so I was a bit nervous about going in. I asked a security guard about it, and he accompanied me to the doors and let me in. I asked about paying an entrance fee and he said they close in an hour, so I did not need to. He suggested that I go to THE PUBLIC LANDING: a recreation of the bustling Public Landing from the late 1850s and climb aboard the Queen of the West, a replica side-wheel steamboat. I loved this and took a lot of pictures.
and then I located the HOLOCAUST MUSEUM and found Peggy and ANdrea. They were just finishing up. I took a couple of pictures and then we all went to the gift shop. After that we decided to go to the FINDLEY MARKET, where we had about 45 minutes until it closed. Some of the shops were already closed. Andrea purchased three cookies. And then we decided it was time for supper, so we located this restaurant:
It is one of the most popular restaurants in Cincinnati. It is a bit of a dive, but very crowded and they prepare much of food right in the middle of the place. It was an interesting experience but none of the three of us would ever want to go back. They specialize in Cincinnati chili which has cinnamon in it. Andrea could not eat her baked potato with chili and other items on top of it. Then back to our lodging. We found that housekeeping had not been to our room, beds unmade, no clean towels, soiled towels still on the floor. I wanted to call the front desk and ask for housekeeping to return and take care of our room, but Peggy said not to, since we can manage with the towels we have left. FRIDAY the 13th of November: We had agreed to get up at seven a.m. but all three of us were awake earlier so we got up. Andrea and I went down to breakfast while Peggy got dressed, but she only had coffee and I had oatmeal and a banana and juice. When we returned to the room, Peggy was ready for the day including being all packed up, so she went to breakfast while Andrea and I packed up. Our goal was to leave at nine a.m. but we left about twenty minutes early and headed to Mt. Hope, Ohio. I think we arrived at Mrs. Yoders about 12:45 and were given a table a few minutes later. We all had the buffet which was very good. Peg and Andrea raved over the bbq ribs. I liked the fried chicken best. Earlier in the day or maybe last night, when I was out of earshot, Peg and Andrea decided to go to Cleveland to a very large market that Andrea used to go to. I really did not want to go. Andrea and I paid our bills while Peggy was having desert and we walked next door to an Amish harness shop where a very nice Amish fellow added two holes to the strap on Andrea's purse, making it shorter and easier for her to use. Before we joined up with Peg, we discussed the idea of going to Cleveland versus spending a bit of time in the Amish are and then heading back to Lockport. Andrea said she would rather do that, so I asked Peggy and she was happy to change her plans. It seems that she thought that Andrea really wanted to go, and since Andrea had been going along with all of our plans for the last couple of days, she thought we should go So, basically none of the three of us wanted to go to Cleveland. I picked up a couple of maps, tourism magazines and brochures at Mrs. Yoders. Peggy said she waanted to go to TROYERS MARKET so we went there first and all three of us made purchases. Then Peg suggested we check out the Christmas store just down the road, so we did It is a very nice shop and I took a lot of pictures. There was an area of the shop that was selling ceramic Christmas tree ornaments and then engraving them. Both Andrea and Peggy purchased some. Peg was very happy to be able to purchase several of these for Davids daughters and Kellys sons. Then we headed home. We saw several Amish schoolhouses (with children outside) and Amish farms. We stopped in Erie, PA at Chik-f-Let and purchased stuff. I only got some waffle fries and a small root beer. Then we started the last leg of the trip between Erie and Lockport, arriving at Peggys house around nine p.m. I got home about nine forty five and Andrea helped me get my stuff up onto my porch. We all agreed that it was a wonderful trip. SATURDAY: I finished unpacking from the trip. I spent quite a bit of time dealing with CITIZENS BANK (two phone calls) trying to figure out why Bob Pagan wh9 mows my lawn and plows my driveway did not receive a check I sent to him (via online bill pay) Apparently the check was lost either in the mail after it left Citizens or Bob lost it after he got it. I did not really accoplish much today but I did do load of laundry. a In the evening, around nine thirty, I started having a headache and not feeling all that great. I took a zinc pill.
