October 31, 2018 Lunch Out and YMCA

Image
This morning I decided to go to the YMCA and walk on the track.  First I called Pam and she agreed to meet me there, but then she called back and cancelled.  I called several other people, Marlene, Vicky, Betty, Elaine, Dee, Louise and Geneva.  Nobody was available.  I decided to go to lunch with the girls I graduated high school with.  First I went to the Salvation Army where I ran into both Pam and Betty.  I found two sweaters.  Then I met up with the others at Kalamata's.   I had one of the Wednesday specials:  the ham dinner: ham steak with mashed potatoes and green beans as well as a cup of hamburger mac and cheese soup.   It was me, Lynette, Barb, MaryAnn and Carol.  I asked Barb if she felt like going to the YMCA to walk the track and she agreed.  She went as my guest. We walked the track many times!  I think we must have walked close to a mile.  I also tried the treadmill...……….I used this password friends1 and I will be recognized by this simmccc.  I only lasted about

Fall Color and More: October 30, 2018

After the Ladies Life Group this morning, I took a ride to Cold Springs Cemetery to see if their was any fall color.  There was:  these are my two favorite pictures. Then I went to the new YMCA on Snyder Drive and activated my SILVER AND FIT membership, which my Medicare Advantage plan (Univera) pays for.  I only had to pay $25.00 towards it.  I was given a tour while I was there. On the way home, I stopped at CHINA KING and bought a quart of wonton soup.

LADIES FUN NIGHT at Faith Tab 10/26/18

Image
Tonight was LADIES FUN NIGHT at Faith Tabernacle.  The plan was for the women of the church to get together at the church for snacks, fellowship and games. I made OATMEAL SCOTCHIES from scratch. I am not sure how many women were present for this event, but the area (lobby) where the event was held was full, and we also used space upstairs.  There were LOTS of snacks to choose from including fruit, vegetables and crackers and cheese. Peggy and Laura V. shared about their upcoming trip to Mexico, where they will minister to a group of about 35 women.  Many of us at this event wrote one or two letters to women, which will be included in "swag bags" that each women will be given.  We were given lists of items to contribute for the assembling of the bags. We finally got to the games.  Marlene and I played a game of Yahtzee and then Marlene, Diane, Amy and I played Scrabble.  Here are some of the other ladies playing games upstairs. It was a lot of fun.  I hope we do it

FALL COLOR and MORE: October 24, 2018

I decided today would be a good day to go to Miller's Bulk Food Store to use my gift certificate.  I called Pam and asked if she felt like accompanying me and she said she would meet me at my house. We went to Millers first and I bought bacon, butter, milk, coconut cookies and two pumpkins.  Then we each purchased a sandwich and had lunch there.  We also split a large cream filled donut. I don't know why I turned down Murdoch Road, but I am glad we did.  We found a small Amish shop. WAYSIDE GRAINS on the YODER DAIRY FARM. We went in and were browsing when a young Amish woman came out to help us.  I purchased three handmade Christian signs.   I continued driving north on Murdoch Road, and we came to Mill Road.  I offered to show Pam the Amish schoolhouse.  I turned the wrong way on Mill Road and we drove for a while.  We saw huge apple orchards with the trees overloaded with apples.   I turned around and went the other way, to the Amish schoolhouse.   We were

TWO EVENT SATURDAY

Image
This morning was KIDS PUMPKIN DAY at the Community Garden.   When I arrived at ten a.m., there were already kids and parents there carving pumpkins.  I stayed for about an hour, and talked with people, poured cider and helped a little girl with her pumpkin. BUT, it started to rain and I was freezing, so I left at eleven a.m. and went home and took a hot shower. Peg and David picked me up a little before noon so we could go to the SOUP-A-PALOOZA at the Lockport Community Farmers Market.   By this time, the weather had cleared up.   It was a competition between area restaurants.  Each restaurant prepared and served a soup.  It was one dollar to sample one soup.  At the end, each participant got to vote for their favorite.  I tried nine soups.  I voted for the Roasted Butternut Squash Soup that the Shamus served.   Here are some pictures:             This is where the tickets were being sold.                              Serving up the samples of soup  Italian Wedding Cak

This morning when I got up, the sun was shining so I decided it would be a good day to drive to Millers Bulk Food Store to use a gift certificate I have had for a while.  I called Pam and asked her if she was interested in accompanying me. She said yes and met me at my house. We stopped first at Schwab's Farm Market where I used some coupons I had to purchase a half bushel of butternut squash and some macoun  apples for Myrna.  I gave one coupon to Pam and she got some apples. When we got to Millers, we found out that it was closed due to a wedding  We saw several Amish people walking down the road, perhaps on their way to the wedding.  We decided to go to Medina for lunch.  On the way there we stopped ate a small farm stand and purchased some fresh peaches. Once we got to Medina we decided to have lunch at Avanti's.  We split a Stromboli.  We went to the chocolate shop and we each purchased a piece of chocolate.  We checked out the BREAD BASKET and we each had a cinnam

Lockport CareNet Banquet : October 18, 2018

Image
The banquet was tonight at Classics V.  Elaine drove, taking Bonnie and me.  The dinner was very good. I tried the silent auction this year and won a Vera Bradley Hadley Satchel along with a matching thermos. After the banquet, Elaine and I went to the hospital so I could pick up some of Betty's belongings.  She will be transported to Buffalo General tomorrow morning for an angiogram.

Saturday, October 13, 2018: Garden and Wrights Corners Fire Hall

Image
After the Community Garden this morning, Peggy and I went to an event at the Wrights Corners Fire Hall in Wrights Corners. (it was the Ladies Auxiliary Vendor and Craft Fair). They had lots of vendors and were offering food and they also had a basket raffle.  Peg and I each bought a banana muffin.  Peg bought tickets for the basket raffle, but I chose not to.  On the way back to Lockport, I asked her to stop at Reid's so I could pick up some lunch: a cheeseburger with a slice and onion rings. We made plans to go to the Soup-a-Palooza next Saturday. I am still exhausted from the trip.

October 10th, 2018:Leaving Las Vegas and Flying to Buffalo

Mary Anne and I had breakfast at our lodging, and then took the shuttle bus to the airport.  We checked our suitcases and headed to our terminal.  While waiting to board, we were informed that there was a problem with our flight and that mechanics were trying to get things in order and that our flight was being delayed.  It turned out to be about a one hour delay.  While waiting, I purchased a turkey sandwich for Mary Anne and I to share, since there would be no meal service during the flight. The flight was fine.  Mary Anne and I could not sit together, but that was OK.  I dozed off right away and missed my opportunity to request a cold drink. Peg and David picked us up at the airport and we took Mary Anne home before going out for supper. David chose RED LOBSTER and I treated them to dinner. I am exhausted and have a huge pile of mail and lots of phone messages to respond to.

October 9th, 2018 Heading to Vegas

Image
We left the Amargosa  Hotel early and headed towards Las Vegas. We stopped at RED ROCKS CANYON.  I wish we had more time, since it is a beautiful place.  Here are a few pictures. Without  a GPS, it was hard to get to the area of our hotel.  We stopped at three 7/11s and got lots of help.We finally arrived at TravelLodge, took our luggage etc. inside our room and then drove car to HERTZ and turned it in. We gad a great supper at CoCo's, a nearby restaurant which was  recommended by the hotels front desk girl. Delicious steak dinner for only  ten bucks (with 20 percent discount card she gave us. Back at our lodging, we spent time sorting and combining items into our suitcases.  Mary Anne had a harder time than I did, since she purchased so many items.

October 8th, 2018 FULL DAY IN DEATH VALLEY, arriving in Death Valley Junction

Image
We headed out about nine a.m. for our full day in Death Valley National Park. Our first stop was at the remnants of Harmony Borax Works. Then we went to the Furnace Creek Visitors Center, where we watched a film "VISITING DEATH VALLEY".  It was very good.  Mary Anne bought a t-shirt and I bought two strips of post cards.   Peg had told me about the BORAX MUSEUM, which is an outdoor museum of old mining equipment.  We located that (with the help of a map that a man at the Visitors Center made up for me).  Then we hit the road and stopped at the TIMBISHA SHOSHONE TRIBE office because we saw a sign advertising shaved ice and Indian tacos.  However, the office/restaurant  was closed so we could not get shaved ice or permission to drive through the village. We then located BADWATER ROAD and drove down it, making stops at GOLDEN CANYON where we hiked a little bit of the trail.   Next stop was ARTISTS PALETTE, which is a nine mile drive through colorful canyo
