THURSDAY: Sleeping in my own bed was great!!!  I slept a bit late and prepared ham and eggs for my breakfast.  I called Social Services about the notice I received early last week.  I spoke with a live person and was told that someone would return my call and help me figure out if I might be eligible for Medicaid now, based on the New York State 2023 budget, within 24 hours.   I worked on laundry and dishes and made some baked custard.  I had a nice nap.  Someone posted this picture on FB.   emergency snow dump at Central Terminal in Buffalo, NY I got a LOT of mail today, most of it was junk mail. I paid a couple of bills. In the evening, I called Myrna and we talked for twenty minutes or so. Her daughters and granddaughters are taking turns staying with her and helping her. FRIDAY: I took a shower and washed my hair first thing in the morning. I called my friend Elaine and we talked for a bit. Pam called and we talked for a bit, and I suggested that we might go out for lunch.

WEDNESDAY December 21st:    I think it was on December 21st (which was Wednesday, that Peggy called and suggested that I stay with her and David during the predicted storm.  High winds, frigid cold and snow was predicted.  She said they could pick me up Thursday after picking David's grandson Luis up at the Amtrak station in Buffalo and dropping him off at his father's (David's son, Scott) apartment in Cheektowaga.   I started getting my stuff together to take.     THURSDAY the 22nd:   I made the raisin sauce for the Christmas ham and gathered together the ingredients for the macaroni and cheese.  Peggy and David picked me up around eight thirty p.m.  They were really concerned about the possibility of the power going out here at my place.  We started faucets both upstairs and downstairs to a slow steady drip in order to help prevent frozen pipes.  David suggested leaving one of the burners on my stove with an open flame, for the same purpose.  We got back to their house, a

MONDAY:   I kind of wanted to go to Millers today, but I realized that I will be out a good portion of the day tomorrow so I decided to stay home.  Peggy called around nine a.m. to tell me that our Aunt Hiroko passed away in the middle of the night. She was so brave to leave Japan and move to the USA in around 1956.  There was still a lot of anti-Japanese sentiment from the attack on Pearl Harbor.  Two of her three children were born here.  I know the kids suffered some racism from other kids in school.  Peggy was aware of it, since she and Judy were in the same grade in school.   Even though my mother disliked her and made things hard for her, after my mother's funeral, Hiroko set up a meal here at my house for the family.  She had a good heart. I am glad I went to see her a few times after she moved to Hospice.    I baked a batch of cookies (cranberry, chocolate chip, oatmeal) first thing in the morning.  I puttered around, punctuated by watching movies on Netflix. I called my d

THURSDAY There was a winter weather advisory in effect this morning, so I decided to NOT go to the Y for the Seniors Christmas event. Instead, I stayed home and made Chex mix and mixed up a batch of cranberry/chocolate/oatmeal cookies which I refrigerated.  I picked Elaine up at about five twenty p.m. in order to go to the PALACE for a fundraiser event which included the movie WHITE CHRISTMAS. :   We met Nancy and Lori there.  I purchased twenty dollars worth of tickets for the basket raffle, and three tickets for the larger, more valuable prizes and I deposited them. We went upstairs to the balcony where they had snacks set up and were selling wine.   Nancy purchased a bottle of wine. Elaine and Nancy got to talking with the woman who was selling wine, so Lori and I found seats in the balcony.  Lori felt uncomfortable in the balcony, so we decided to go downstairs.  We found seats and watched the movie. About two thirds of the way through, I used the ladies room and decided to check o

There were fifteen women at the Life Group this morning and we wrapped up the study we have been doing.  We decided to meet next week which will be our last meeting before Christmas.  After the meeting was over Karen, Betty, Lori, Glenda and I went to HONG KONG BUFFET, which is under new management since it reopened a few months ago, after being closed down due to COVID.  It was pretty good, although I think they have reduced the number of items they offer.  After that, I went home.  I took a couple of phone calls including one from my gynecological office.  I got the results of my recent Dexa Scan.  I called Pam and agreed to accompany her and Louise to see Christmas lights tonight.  Then I took a short nap before meeting up with Pam at her place.  I called Pam before I left my house to tell her I was on the way.  Since we had plans to pick Louise up at six, I figured she would be ready and waiting for me when I arrived at about five minutes before six.  I waited by Pam's car and

COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS DINNER at CHRIST COMMUNITY CHURCH

In the morning, I went to the Dollar Tree, Walmart and Niagara Produce to get items that I need.  A couple of weeks ago, Lori told me about this event, and I agreed to go.  I invited Betty to join us. Lori cancelled out due to having too much to do to get ready for Christmas.  I called Dee and invited here via voicemail but she did not get back to me.  I also invited Peggy since she is feeling better and will return to work tomorrow.  She liked the idea and said she might go, but she didn't.   Betty picked me up and we met up with Sue at the church.  The dinner was really good.  I won a door prize.  This snow globe lantern that lights up.  The theme of the decorations and the door prizes was the red truck with the tree in the back.   Here are the rest of my pictures:       I think the meal was sponsored by FIDELIS.  This Fidelis rep. was giving out free pens, gloves and probably more items.  Betty and I each got a pair of gloves.                                              The ser

I got to the church around ten forty a.m.   I asked Lou to let me in to the office area and he did.  I picked up the boxes of cards, list of names and the printed Christmas carols and then I went down to the basement and looked for the "sugars" for the tea.  I found a few.  Then I located the case of bottles of water, but it was heavy, so I located Lou again and he carried it to the kitchen.   Once I got back to the kitchen, I looked for more "sugars" but couldn't find any, so I went to the COFFEE BAR, and they filled a bowl with different types for me.  I got the silverware ready.  I opened up the packaging that held the tablecloths captive (I have had difficulty opening them in the past) so that they would be ready to go.  David and Jan both came at the end of the service.  Jan located the floral displays for the tables, and we started to put the red tablecloths on the tables.  By this time, we had a lot of other helpers.  They put napkins and plasticware at

Jan mentioned this event to me, so I signed both her and I up for it, and then I invited my friend Bonnie who brought her sisters, Terry and Kathy.  We met up at Freedom Church and found a table together and later on, Dee joined us.  Laura had personally invited her.   Bonnie, Jan, Terry and Kathy        Each participant was given a gift  bag at the end. Laura honored Dee because Dee was supportive and encouraging when Laura was going through depression.   Lori picked me up at five thirty to go to this event in Niagara Falls. It was very good.  They offered chili and crackers as well as many kinds of cookies.  There was a model train exhibit and arts and crafts table.   At the Arts and Crafts table.                                                The TRAIN DISPLAY I talked with Peg in the evening and found out that she is very ill.  We started to work out a plan in which David and I could take over leadership of the CONNECT  SENIORS LUNCHEON tomorrow after the eleven a.m. service.  She
