TUESDAY LIFE GROUP and Late FALL walk 10/29/19

Image
After LIFE GROUP this morning, a bunch of us went to WENDY's for lunch.  Between FREEDOM CHURCH and Wendy's I noticed that it had warmed up a great deal, and that it was sunny with aa nice blue sky.  So when I was leaving, I asked Betty if she had plans for the afternoon and she said she did not, so we decided to take a walk together.  We also asked Vicky and she decided to accompany us. I went home to change into capris and then I picked Betty up and then Vicky.  I drove to Lockport Road, hoping to find an entrance to a paved trail that Betty and I have noticed a couple of times in the past.  I was thinking it was on the corner of Campbell Blvd., but it turns out that it is on the corner of Bear Ridge Road.  There is a nice parking area and good signage.   We found a painted rock in the "little library" that you can see in this picture (to the left of the kiosk). Even though most of the fall color is gone, there was still glimpses.  I took over seventy pi

Monday 10/28/19 Y, Hoovers and FIVE SENSES PARK

Image
I called Pam this morning and suggested that she and I go to the Y for SILVER SNEAKERS CLASSIC and she agreed.  I went over to take care of Petra before heading to the Y.  When I arrived, it was pretty early so I decided to go upstairs and walk.  I saw Louise walking, so I joined her.  I also used a couple of machines before going downstairs for the class.   Its been a while since I have exercised like that, so I had a bit of difficulty keeping up. Pam and I went to HOOVER'S for lunch and I used one of the coupons Peggy gave me.  Then we went to FIVE SENSES PARK.   I thought there were trails there, but it turns out that there isn't, and it was soggy, so we did not stay long.  I got a few pictures:     These two are my favorites. When I got home, I raked a bit in the front yard.

Sunday October 27, 2019

First thing this morning I went to Peg's house and took care of Petra.  Then I went to FREEDOM CHURCH for a few minutes in order to get a copy of today's bulletin and sign up for the FRIENDSGIVING DINNER.  Then I left to meet up with Betty so we could go to SOLID ROCK Church for their morning service which was featuring Wade Cummings (better known as Elvis Wade).  Marlene met up with us there and Becky was there also.  The service was great and Wade had us all dancing in the aisles!   Betty and I went to the Sunrise Café for lunch.  I had a turkey club.   Then we went to visit Myrna and then to visit Lydia at NORTHGATE REHAB.  I took her some DIET COKE, which she loves.

LOSSON NATURE TRAILS at Steglmeier Park in Cheekowaga and ELVIS October 26, 2019

Image
Betty and I went to Cheektowaga to go to the Losson Nature Trails at Steglmeier Park.  Neither one of us had ever been there.  We found it easily enough and acquired maps from a plastic case outside of the front office. We decided to start out on the HUMMINGBIRD trail which is easy since it is wheelchair accessible, because it leads to other trails.  The map was very helpful and we were able to figure out a way to leave the woods and come out near where we were parked.  Here are a few pictures.   We saw several deer on the DEER RUN TRAIL                             and a couple of squirrels. LOSSON is really beautiful and especially so in the fall.    We went to CORE LIFE EATERY for lunch.  We each had the lunch special which was a "create your own bowl" with a side.  The tomato basil soup was very good and so was the bowl, which included steak!   I could hardly made a dent in my bowl.  We went to PAULA'S for a donut and hot drink, using one of the c

CareNet Banquet 11/24/19

Image
In the morning, I did a bit of shopping and then I went to visit Myrna, who is recovering from a fractured shoulder.  I bought her a tray that I think might help her at mealtime since she does not have a table in her new apartment. I had also packaged up some food for her, a small casserole dish of the STUFF I prepared the night before, some blueberry muffins and a slice of carrot cake.  We had a nice visit.  Her granddaughter  Kayla was there. Tonight was the annual fundraiser dinner for the CareNet center.   Betty picked me up and then we went to pick up Bonnie.  I had also invited Marlene.  We had a bit of difficulty getting to CLASSIC V because there are two Tonawanda Creek Roads and we took the wrong one but we arrived at 5:30 the exact start time. The theme was WHY WE SERVE. The speaker this year was the best one ever: This is the program. Kailee Perrin may have aborted her beautiful daughter, Preslee, if someone had not suggested she go to the CARENET Center in Lockpor

Ice Cream Social at the Y: Monday 10/21/19

Image
The Y offered an ICE CREAM SOCIAL for seniors this morning.  I reminded Elaine, Pam, Betty, Sarah, Marlene and Louise about it and they all came! I met up with them after SILVER SNEAKERS SPLASH. Sarah declined being in the group picture I took. I don't know why but we were told that we shouldn't all sit together during future meetings! We were asked for ideas of activities that the seniors can do.  We will meet every third Monday of the month.   Later on in the day, Peggy and I went to visit Lydia at rehab.  We had a nice visit.

Perfect FALL Saturday: 10/19/19

I heard on the radio about a Fall Festival at ABUNDANT HARVEST CHURCH (I think they call it APPLEFEST) in Knowlesville, NY and I called Becky to tell her.  Then she called me a bit later to tell me about the EQUINE event on Carmen Road.  Both events were today.  I mentioned them to Betty and she wanted to go, so we headed to Knowlesville at 9:40 this morning.  When we arrived, I was surprised to see so many cars there.  It was a much larger event than I thought I would be. After looking around (vendors, crafters and apple items for sale) Betty and I decided to order lunch.  We each had the Beef on Weck meal deal. it came with two sides (I chose salt potatoes and waldorf salad) I also purchased a slice of apple pie for a dollar as well as a glass of cider, it all came to $10.50 and I could not eat it all.  Becky joined us with her friend Kathy.  It was one of the best BOW I have had in a long time.   Then we headed to the Grand Opening of the LOVE ALWAYS EQUINE CENTER on Carmen

BUFFALO BRIEFING at Salvatore's

Image
Marlene asked me if I wanted to go to the BUFFALO BRIEFING for New Yorker's Family Research Foundation.  We met up at TOPS and she drove us to Salvatore's!!!  We were one of the last people seated so we did not get good seats facing the podium.  Chuck from our church was at our table. There were over 300 people present, last year there were less than 100 !!!!   Jason McGuire, President of New Yorker’s Family Research Foundation was the main spokesperson. There were various speakers including Senator Ortt. The Bountiful Buffet provided by Salvatore's was very good and the lines moved through quickly. Here are some of the servers getting ready to unveil our feast! It was a wonderful event. It is great to be in the company of like minded people for a few hours!

I went to the Dale for the AGING MASTERY class this morning.  It was about healthy relationships and very good.   After that Marlene and I talked with Karla about the possibility of going on the trip to QUEBEC next summer. Betty picked up Dee and myself and drove us to the Royalton Methodist Church for their spaghetti dinner.  We met up with Becky there.  Jenny came in, but she was doing take out since she does not feel well.  We talked for a bit. RUNNINGS was having some type of event tonight, so after the dinner we went to check it out.  I liked seeing these decorated pumpkins.  There were a few vendors.  The most interesting thing was seeing these owls which were on display with an animal rescue organization.   We noticed the beautiful sunset before we got in the car to head home. We showed Dee an easier route to get to Betty's place and my place on the way home.
