Christmas Luncheon at Vinecroft and Christmas Caroling in the North End of Lockport

Image
12/11/19  Yesterday was not a good day.  I was waiting at home for a phone call from LOWES about the delivery of my new frig.   Mary Anne called and she needed a ride to the hospital because she had a nosebleed that would not stop.  I called David and asked him if he could come over and wait at the house for Lowes and he agreed.  So I picked Mary up and took her to the ER and stayed with her for an hour or so, then I went home.  I sent David home and waited for Lowes.  Unfortunately, my new frig was damaged so I did not accept it.   I went to First Presbyterian Church for their once a month Dollar Dinner with Betty, Dee and Louise.   Then I called Mary Anne and she was ready to be picked up.  She had not eaten all day so we went to Burger King and went through the drive through and got her a burger and a salad.  I was exhausted when I got home a little before eight p.m. TODAY (12/12/19) Dee, Betty, Louise and I went to the Christm...

Another Canadian Adventure! 12/7/19

Image
This morning Betty and I went to the indoor Farmers Market at Harrison Place.  Neither one of us purchased anything but she was able to get her flamingo earrings repaired by the vendor who made them.  I gave them to her for her birthday. I put up some Christmas decorations and took a short nap before driving to the DALE for the bus trip to Niagara Falls Canada for the 2019 Festival of Lights.   Marlene and I had to sit in the seats way in the back because everyone else arrived before we did. A little while into the bus ride, Marlene realized that she did not have her drivers license with her.  She downsized to a smaller purse and eliminate her wallet.  She quickly came up with a plan.   She called her daughter, Christiana, and asked her to find her license and deliver it to her in Niagara Falls, New York.   I offered to go with her.  The bus driver agreed to let us off at the Seneca Casino and Carla (the leader of the group) agreed that we cou...

12/6/19 :LIVING NATIVITY and More in Newfane

Image
I asked Betty a couple of days ago if she wanted to go to the LIVING NATIVITY and a couple of other events in Newfane today.  She agreed and I offered to buy her supper if she wanted to drive us there.  She picked me up at four p.m. and we headed out. Our first stop was at the Newfane United Methodist Church for their craft and vendor fair called CANDY CANE LANE. There were lots of vendors and crafters and baked goods and a small café.  I had a hot dog and she had soup.  I was happy to see WINSLOW'S CHOICE there, so I was able to purchase  a jar of their TART CHERRY JAM which I will serve with my Christmas ham. After that we went down to the Newfane Town Hall and found a parking spot and went inside where there was another craft/vendor event going on.  I think I may have taken this picture there. Then we watched part of the LIGHT UP NEWFANE PARADE, which was very good, even if it was very slow, with long stops for entertainment.  I ...

12/5/19 Peg's Life Group and Christmas Gathering

Image
I made a batch of Chocolate Shortbread Cookies and wrote out Christmas cards for those who go to Peggy's Life Group in the morning.  I  have used this mix from Aldi's for a few years and was glad I could find it again.  It has ingredients for three batches (two dozen cookies each), all packaged separately. I took my fall decorations upstairs and got out the small fiber optic tree and put it up.  I took a short nap and then headed over to Peggy's house. We had a great Christmas gathering.  Peg, Betty, Louise, Karen, Mary, Dee and Geneva and myself.  There were a lot of snacks, mostly cookies. Peggy gave each of us a small gift, and I let each woman choose a pair of gloves from those I purchased at Penneys after last Christmas.  We played a neat game, answering questions about Christmas and I won!   HOWEVER, the party ended with a bang. Jim Anders came to pick up his wife, Karen.  He parked out in front of the house and his car was hit...

CRAFT NIGHT AT THE YMCA: 12/4/19

Image
Tonight was CRAFT NIGHT at the Y.  Betty was too tired to go, so I arranged to meet up with Dee and Elaine at six p.m.  (the time the Y's Facebook post said the event would start).   However, it was really scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.  While waiting, I talked with a woman I had never met before, Jan.  I introduced her to Dee and Elaine when they arrived and the four of us sat together. I was a bit disappointed when I saw the gnomes that we were going to make (ugly, ugly, ugly).  However, they were fun to make.  Then we painted snowflakes on a wine glass.  I kept messing up and had to wipe off my paint and start over a few times and I was not happy with my finished product.    Here is Jan with her wine glass.  She did very well.  Here is Dee working on her gnome.   Elaine with her completed gnome.   It was announced that future craft nights will not be free, there will be a $4 charge.  Dee and I de...

12/3/19 including "Ringing the Bells"

Image
I ran a few errands before arriving at FREEDOM CHURCH.   I stopped a few times to take pictures of the snow on the trees. I wrapped and bagged some small gifts for the CONNECT CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON which is coming up.  Only six people attended LIFE GROUP.  Betty and I left early to head to TOPS for our two hour shift ringing bells for the SALVATION ARMY.  I stopped at the VILLAGE EATERY for a slice of pizza on the way to TOPS. Our shift was from noon until two p.m. I wore the wrong shoes (my Bean Boots), so my feet were killing me.  I saw Sheila working at one of the checkout counters and hoped to have a chance to talk to her, but I didn't.  I left as soon as Ronnie arrived to relieve me but Betty stayed a bit longer.

Monday December 2, 2019

Yesterday I stayed home from church (Peggy called and recommended that I not attempt to drive on the icy streets) and watched the service online.   I was really glad that I had put my car in the garage the night before.  I did not leave the house at all yesterday except for when I pulled the garbage cans to the street. Today I had an appointment to have my yearly eye exam.  It went well and I got a new prescription for a new pair of glasses.  Also, when I was tested for 'dry eye', my eyes tested normal. When I got home, there was a message from Betty asking if I wanted to go to Penneys and BJ's with her.  I called her and told her I would.  She picked me up at 11:30 a.m.  We stopped at her insurance agent on the way so she could find out about having her cracked windshield replaced.  We had lunch at CORE LIFE EATERY.   I had the Korean BBQ Pork and it was very good. Purple rice, kimchi, cucumbers, spicy broccoli, Sriracha sprouts, fried...
