Tuesday, July 7th

Most of the morning I was calling or waiting for a call from the priest from ALL SAINTS, using the phone number and and extension that Shannon gave me yesterday.  In the meantime, I brought in the table and marble top that Mary Anne gave me and I set up the clock and one of the antique lamps on it. Someone from the BEREAVEMENT COMMITTEE called instead of the priest.  I arranged to meet with them at 12:10, in the hall behind the church.  The meeting went well and I think the ceremony will be what Mary Anne wanted.   This will be the very first funeral after the re-opening of the church due to the shut down.  After the meeting, I went to MedWell for my follow up appointment regarding the emergency room visit I made the day of the accident (6/24).    I did not much care for the PA who I met with. I thought about picking something up for lunch but decided not to, and went straight home.  I prepared myself a very late lunch which took care of ...

I talked with Mary Anne's lawyer on the phone this morning.  I explained that there are a few items in Mary Anne's house that she wanted me to have, but since she died so unexpectedly, I did not have a chance to get them.  Pat George said that since I am the executrix, I get to make these decisions.   I went over and cleaned out her refrigerator and put a lot of stuff in both the trash and recyclable bin.  I took the marble top to the table MA wanted me to have as well as the old clock.  I grabbed the Northwest Bank folder which has the info about me being added to her bank account. I talked with Peggy on the phone and she said she can help me get the table tomorrow.  However, I may meet Kevin over at Mary Anne's house later on and maybe he will bring it over to my place. I worked on writing a eulogy for MA.   My printer is out of ink, so Peggy printed it out for me.  She agreed to leave it in her mailbox for me to pick up.  S...

In my dream, getting into church was a real hassle, with some strange man (doc maybe) breathing right into my face.  Then a lot of strangers in church, with very little social distancing.  However, I didn't even go to church today. I tried to reach Mary Anne by phone about 8:15 a.m. and she did not answer.  I decided to go over and check on her.  She did not respond to my knocking on the door, so I let myself in.  I found that she had passed away in her sleep.  I called her friend Paula down the street and then I called 911 and Prudden and Kandt.  Paramedics arrived first and they called the Lockport police and the coroner. In the meantime, I called Antoinette and asked her to call her niece Bianca in Connecticut.  Bianca and Mary Anne have been best friends since Bianca and her family came to the USA from Italy when Bianca was around 10.   I also called Barb (who was friends with MA in high school and they went to Bryant and Stratto...

Fourth of July, 2020

When I saw on Facebook that the Saturday Market was taking place today,  I called Betty to let her know, since she loves shopping. I think I will always remember this FOURTH OF JULY as being the saddest holiday I have ever know.  Part is because of all the patriotic events including fireworks being cancelled but more so because my friend, Mary Ann is dying. This morning she called and we talked and she said she realizes that she needs to complete her enrollment in Hospice.  She also said that she is pretty sure that she needs oxygen.  I called Hospice and they had the nurse on call return my call.  We set up a time for two p.m. on Monday for a nurse to meet with Mary Anne and I, but possibly they might change the time to earlier in the day.    The nurse said that Mary Anne can definitely get oxygen on Monday. After talking with Paula, I realized that MA is simply not able to continue walking up the stairs to her bedroom.  I called Kevin and ...

July 3, 2020: Mary Anne and The Shamus

First thing this morning I spoke with Kevin at Northwest, giving him my personal information to put on the application (?) for Mary Anne to add me to her checking account at NW.  Then Kevin, Mary Anne and I met at her house so he could complete that process as well as add beneficiaries to her cds and annuities. Then I did some shopping for Mary Anne, getting milk and some non disposable underpads.  I asked her if I might pick her up some macaroni and cheese from Chiavetta's and she said yes and to get some chicken and Greek pasta salad, too.  So I went and did that.  I requested that they package each item separately, to make it easier for Mary Anne and they did.  When I got back to her house, she accepted a bottle of BOOST that was half full, but was not ready to eat any of the items I brought her.  I went to Northwest to get copies of their paperwork as well as get my Power of Attorney papers back. I napped in the afternoon and when I woke up, I saw tha...

This morning I spoke with Kelly from M and T.   She refused to go to Mary Anne's house to meet with her in order to add me to her checking account.  I told her we would meet on MA's front porch but she would not budge. I called HOSPICE and said I needed to learn about their services.  The young lady I spoke to said a Social Worker could meet with MA at eleven a.m.  Mary Anne agreed.  We also set a time for a nurse to come:  2;30 p.m.  I was with Mary Anne for both meetings.  She is not ready to enroll at this time, but since the paperwork has been done, she can get services started at any time.  The Social Worker recommended calling HART in Lewiston about hiring aides to come in and help Mary Anne.    So I called and spoke with Lisa.  It sounds like they have several aides available, some living in Lockport.  I passed the information along to Mary Anne, but she does not seem interested at this time.  I put ...

July 1, 2020 Mary Anne, lawyer, CarStar and More.

What a day!  I did not get a lot of sleep last night, so sat down to rest after breakfast.  If I recall correctly, Mary Anne called.  Anyways, I went to Rite Aid to pick up my prescription and then went to her house.   I showed her the outfit I bought yesterday for her to be buried in and she likes it!!!  I picked up a bit in anticipation of the arrival of her lawyer Pat George at eleven.  She arrived a couple of minutes early.   Kevin showed up a minute or so later, but just said hello to Mary Anne and then left. Mary Anne and her lawyer went over several things, including the sale of her cottage to a man she knows who lives down in Olcott.  MA decided to change her will.  So, Pat went back to her office to redo the will.  A few minute later MA remembered something she had neglected to tell Pat (that she wanted to bequeath a sum of money to her church) so she called and this was taken care of.  When Pat and her secretar...
