Tuesday, August 31st LIFE GROUP including Drama

Image
I attended LIFE GROUP this morning.  Our regular leader, Elaine, was not there due to having gone to Lancaster County, PA.  Dee McDonnell led the group today.  Unfortunately, she had a disagreement with Robyn and Robyn stormed out of the room, going to "the office".  She didn't make it up to the office (she uses a walker and could not ever walk up the stairs, so Peggy came down and talked with her.)  And then Peggy came to the sanctuary where we were continuing with our Life Group and asked Dee to accompany her.  I guess Dee and Robyn talked and apologized to each other.    ANYWAYS, a bunch of us went out to lunch at THE FIELDSTONE and unfortunately, I sat next to Robyn, with Betty on the other side.  I noticed that Dee deliberately sat as far away from Robyn as possible.    It was somewhat of a train wreck.  Robyn used to be a very capable, efficient, intelligent woman.  But two strokes and several other physical problems have diminished her SO MUCH.  She did not have e

Monday August 30th in Lockport

I slept a bit late since it took me a long time to get to sleep last night.  I continued putting trip stuff away.  Betty came over to give me my mail.  I sorted through it all and then paid a few bills.  I called BEAUMAN'S GARAGE regarding my car battery because yesterday David said something was wrong with it.  They told me to bring it over for them to look at it, so I did and they cleaned off the corrosion and and sprayed it with something  to prevent more corrosion.  I went to the library to read some of last weeks newspapers and ran into Becky Wilcox there.  I went to Niagara Produce and purchased a few items.  I had a nice nap in the afternoon.  I prepared a smoked pork chop with pineapple, roasted red potatoes and peas for my supper.    I unpacked the small lamp I bought at the garage sale in Fair Haven and set it up in my living room. An email from Marianne Koenig stated that she has received all of the releases and final checks to the heirs of Mary Anne's estate will b

August 29th, 2021 Harriet Tubman and GOING HOME: From Auburn to Oneonta DAY SEVEN

I slept great last night.  Leslie and I decided to go to McDonalds for pancakes and so I could use their free wifi to see if anyone on the Auburn FB pages had any information about my missing keys.  No luck with the keys, but Leslie treated me to my breakfast which was good, and so large that I could not finish all of it.   After we finished, I asked her what we might do in the time remaining before Peg and David's arrival.  She suggested a Harriet Tubman historic walk and told me where I could find info online.  I found it quickly and saw that it started in ten minutes, so we left McD's and headed for it.    We got there just in time and I thoroughly enjoyed the walk.  I took several pictures.    This is her church.  It was struck by lightning several years ago.  The congregation had already build a larger church.     Entrance to the cemetery where she is buried.                                                                      Seward                   Our guide for the wa

The flashing lights (hazards) turned off sometime in the middle of the night.  Firetrucks went down the street the car is parked on in the middle of the night. Leslie got up early and went to a BIRDING Event at the refuge. I slept until eight and then took a shower, washed and put away dishes and re-organized my stuff, still hoping to find my keys.  Also, I read some in CITY OF HOPE.  All of a sudden, the book turned interesting.  Seems like I have been reading it forever and I am only halfway through. Peg called and we discussed the possibility of having the keys to the SUBARU overnighted ($40) USPS, but neither one of us feels comfortable with trusting the delivery person to find the right place and person (ME) especially since the AAA responder was given the right address and ended up in the wrong spot.  Peg and David will bring the keys to me here in Auburn tomorrow, leaving Lockport at ll:15 or so.  They will make sure the battery gets charged and the car up and running so that I

August 27th, 2021 A GOOD and BAD Day DAY FIVE of Auburn/Fair Haven Trip

August 27th, 2021 Leslie and I had breakfast in our cottage at Screwy Louie's: cereal and bananas.  We packed up, I turned in the key and got a receipt and we headed out.  We went to the Old Hardware Store Cafe so that we could use their wifi and get geocache information.  I ordered two poached eggs and toast and a Dr. Pepper and Leslie and I each had an egg and some toast. Leslie was disappointed that they did not offer cinnamon buns! We looked for two multi caches that had to do with churches in Fair Haven before we left the village. Once we got to Fair Haven State Park, I parked in specific spots where Leslie thought she might be able to see a certain bird that she would have liked to see, but she did not have any luck.  Then we went to Fair Haven State Park where we had hoped to find a geocache that had something to do with "the bluff".  However, we could not find a trail or a spot to climb the hill mentioned in the cache info.  I only took these two pictures while a

August 25th geocaching etc Leslie gave me a ride to the Auburn library before  she started her volunteer job delivering MEALS ON WHEELS.  I was able to check email, facebook, update my blog and add some pictures to flickr.  I also retrieved phone messages from home.  There were 8 new messages: several from Connie, two from Carol K. and one from Christa.  She called Monday evening saying that she was stressed out and needed to talk to me.  I messaged her back on FB and told her I would call her tonight.  From the library, I called Screwy Louie's in Fair Haven and asked if they had a cabin available for tonight and tomorrow night and they said YES. When Leslie returned to the library to pick me up I asked her if she was interested in going up to Fair Haven for two nights.  She seemed a bit reluctant at first, but agreed. So, I called SL's and reserved cabin #3 for two nights. Back at her apartment, Leslie prepared lunch and we got packed up.  When we were both ready, we headed n

After a breakfast of Cheerios with banana we set out for BEECHWOOD STATE PARK, to explore the abandoned girl scout camp and geocache.  It was terribly, terribly hot and I suggested to Leslie several times that we had enough and wanted to go back to my air conditioned car.  She ignored me.   We met the caretaker, who was mowing the lawn, and stopped to ask if we needed help.  He was somewhat familiar with geocaching.  We found two geocaches, a virtual by large rock called  (Gneiss & Erratic)and one called BRO, that was in honor of a brother finding his 1000th geocache.  We found a woman camping in one of the lean-to's, she said her sisters had gone to get food.  She seemed to be straightening up.   This is a picture of their camp.  There are LOTS of these kind of half cabins all over the prk.   She said they have camped there for several years, but always in a different spot. We also met another camper who had stayed two nights and was pulling her wagon of supplies out to the p

Tuesday, August 24, 2021 to Oneonta and back to Auburn: lots of geocaching (DAY TWO of TRIP)

Leslie and I left Auburn a few minutes before nine a.m. and headed to Oneonta.  We arrived a bit after noon.  I got gas and we went to the GREEN EARTH where Leslie got some items and then to BROOKS, where we picked up chicken dinners.  We met up with Carol at Wilber Park.  She has a new truck.   Connie had called her and told her that she could not join us.  Carol, Leslie and I had our lunch and I called Connie and asked if we could go over to her place and visit her for a little while and she said she was waiting for several phone calls and we would not be able to have an uninterrupted visit. The three of us found the geocache hidden in the Little Library behind El Fartero's house.  His back yard backs up to the lower level of Wilber Park. Before leaving Oneonta, we stopped at the HISTORY CENTER, but the fellow that Leslie wanted to see was not available. We headed north to Cooperstown and stopped for a snack and cold drink at the McDonalds there and we used their free wifi and

Monday, August 23, 2021 Drive to Auburn (Day One of Trip)

Monday 8/23 I prepared scrambled eggs and toast for Meg, Cass and I this morning.  They left at ten a.m. and I kicked into first gear and started getting myself and my stuff ready for the drive to Auburn.  I left at twelve thirty.  I stopped and got gas on  the transit and got onto the thruway. There was quite a bit of traffic on the thruway.   I stopped twice at rest areas to use the ladies room. At the second stop, I purchased some garlic knots and a Dr. Pepper.  Most of the thruway rest areas were closed, except for the gas station part.  That is a first. The toll stations have all been removed, but I have my EZ Pass. When I arrived in Auburn, I realized that I was probably heading in the wrong direction to follow the directions Leslie gave me.  I noticed that I was on South Street, and I stopped in front of the old theatre and called her. Turns out I was in a good spot.  All I had to do was turn left and drive up the hill and park in front of her apartment building.  She met me the
