Week of Sunday February 26 through March 4th, 2023

SUNDAY February 26th:   I had a heck of a time getting my garbage can out of  the snow and ice and moving it to the front yard so that I could put it out to the curb later on.  It was a comedy of using salt and a walking stick and bringing my car as close as I could to where the can was, but I was able to do it!!!!  I left for church a little earlier than usual, but the front parking lot was already full when I got there.  Church was really good.  After it was over, I asked Marlene if she wanted to join me at my place for lunch and to discuss our trip plans.  We had lunch and looked at trip ideas, maps and a couple of videos on youtube.  After she left, I took a nap.  I prepared peach dumplings and had them for supper.  I talked with Myrna on the phone for a while.  I found the movie SIDE EFFECTS on netflix.  This is a poster for  Side Effects . The poster art copyright is believed to belong to  Open Road Films .  Then I watched another movie, but I can't remember the name of it.

MONDAY:    I created a recipe. I peeled and sliced two apples, covered them with apple cider in a heavy pan. Brought the liquid to a boil and then placed dumplings on top (I used Bisquick), I sprinkled a bit of cinnamon on top and then simmered uncovered for ten minutes and then simmered covered for ten minutes. Scooped out a serving containing apples and dumpling and spooned some liquid over the top. I had this for breakfast, but I think I will serve it for desert later on this week when I have company. It is very good! A true comfort food. I think I will use three apples next time.  I met up with Jan at around ten a.m. at the Y and we walked the track for an hour, but that includes breaks to rest.  The Y was crowded this morning, and there were some kids there, since today is PRESIDENTS DAY and school is closed.  While at the Y, both Jan and I signed up for the TEA AND PAINTING class on March 9th.  After that, I went to Walmart to get a few groceries, mostly stuff I want for

In the morning I worked on trip plans and made reservations for the last night of the April trip that Marlene and I will be taking.  I also watched a Jimmy Stewart movie and worked on sorting through books and choosing which ones to pass on.  Then I took a nap. When I got up, I saw that Cindi had been trying to reach me, so I called her.  She said she had two tickets for Beatlemania at the Palace tonight at eight p.m. that she wanted to pass on.  It was a little past six at this time.  I told her I thought Jan would like to go and I called Jan.  She had just gotten home from spending the day with her son, Michael and was kind of tired but she said she really wanted to go, so we arranged to meet at the Palace.  I called Cindi back and told her, and she agreed to bring the tickets over.  I just had time to choose an outfit, take a shower, get dressed, prepare supper and eat it and get the car out of the garage before it was time to leave, so I am really glad Cindi said she could bring t

MONDAY:  After taking my sheets off and starting a load of laundry,  I spent  a good part of the morning working on making lodging reservations for the trip Marlene and I will be taking in April.  We will stay the first three nights in Walnut Creek at a motel which provides breakfast.  Then we will head east into Pennsylvania.  I have reservations in a city kind of close to the FLIGHT 93 Memorial for the 4th night, but still have to find something for our last night which will be in Indiana, PA so we can go to the Jimmy Stewart museum.   I was getting really tired of all that so I got dressed and went out.  First to get gas, and then to the YMCA where I walked the track and used the recumbent bike for a few minutes.   TUESDAY:  I went to the Y for the STABILITY class, adding in some walking and the recumbent bike.  I ran into Bonnie and Crystal there.  Then I went to the Ladies Life Group.  Cindi presented us with a couple of ideas for watching Christian movies.  I passed out Valentine

FRIDAY:   I went for a haircut at SUPERCUTS, right near TOPS.   I liked the stylist, Yvonne, and I like the price.  Ten dollars less than I paid for a cut and blow-dry at CUTTING CREW last time, and today's price included a conditioning treatment.  I went to the Y and walked on the track and used the recumbent bike for close to ten minutes.  I stopped at THE DOLLAR TREE before going home.  I spent the rest of the day at home.  In the evening, Pam and I arranged to go see A MAN NAMED OTTO.  I will meet her at her apartment tomorrow morning at 11:30. SATURDAY:  I met up with Pam at her apartment and she drove us to Amherst/Williamsville to the Regal Theatre.  There were five other people in #12.  The movie was excellent.  After the movie we went to CORE LIFE for lunch.  I had a fajita.  Then we went to Paula's Donuts and had a donut.  They were getting ready to close and kind of rushed us along, but we had time to sit and eat our donuts.   SUNDAY:  The sermon today was really goo

TUESDAY:   I didn't sleep all that well last night, and was wide awake fairly early, so I got up and got ready for the day and went to the Y for STABILITY,  a class that works on balance.  Then I went to the Ladies Life Group.  We had three new ladies:  Pat Peller, her daughter Abby and Abby's eight month old son, Timothy, and Linda, a friend of theres.  Five of us went to the FIELDSTONE for lunch.  And then I had my appointment with Dr. Kurbs.   In the evening, I called Natalie Northrup, an old friend from the early 1980s.  I had looked for her on Facebook and found that her FB account must have been deleted since I could not find it.  I was concerned that she may have passed away.  I found my missing address book a few days ago and decided to call her, hoping that she still has the same number.   She answered and we talked for a while.  She is still active in her church and she gave me the name and address of it.   She still has not heard from her son who ran away when he was

SATURDAY the 4th:   Boy did I sleep good last night.   I took two Tylenol PM and settled myself in my recliner in the family room, with a neck pillow, and a heavy afghan, with the recliner in a halfway reclining position.  I settled in around 8:30, listening to a podcast and fell asleep within minutes, and slept several hours.  Then I got up and turned on my electric blanket (to 7) and used the bathroom and got a drink of water.  I then spread out the afghan on my bed on top of the electric blanket, and put another podcast on and fell asleep promptly and slept a few more hours.  I think I may stick to this routine, but I should probably give up taking the Tylenol PM. I spent a few hours reading this book. Sue Rausch called to see how Carrie is doing.  I took a brief nap in the afternoon before getting ready for the funeral.  I met up with David and Peggy at SOLID ROCK Church.  This was their electronic sign by the road that goes up to the church.     Mike was there as well as Gail, wit

February 1, 2023 and February 2, 2023 and Friday the third

WEDNESDAY the first:   I met up with Carrie and Sue at Oxbow.  We took Carrie to ECMC for her dental appointment.  Unfortunately, the parking lot was packed, in fact there was a sign saying it was closed due to being full.  We could not find a parking spot, so we left.  I attempted to call the dental office to let them know what happened but could only get a repeating recorded message, so I finally gave up on that.  When we got back to Oxbow, and Greg (house manager) was still there, I suggested that it might be a good time for him to show me the new house in Sanborn that they will all be moving into when it is finished.  We drove separately.  I used my real time navigation system.  I told the female worker that I did not want to drive on any expressways.  The original directions she came up with called for me to drive on I-90, and I said NOPE to that.  So she rerouted me.  Greg was behind me, but he quit following me when I turned onto Dickersonville Road.  Even so, he only beat me to
