Wednesday, January 6, 2021 RETURN TO THE Y !!! PROTESTS AT THE U.S. Capital !!!!!!

Image
I met with Kevin Kopek at NorthWest Bank for a full hour this morning, straightening out my financial stuff.   Then I dropped off some documents that the lawyer requested from the bank.  Then I decided to go to the Y and renew my membership for the new year.  However, I was not able to.  Procedure has changed and I was given a phone number to call to register and pay.  I was allowed to go into the Y without a current membership so I walked the track for about twenty minutes.  It felt so good to be there.   After lunch, I worked on getting my pictures from my 2000 trip to Maine uploaded to my flickr account.  Betty dropped off a Christmas gift, a bag of my containers, and a bag of clothing for me to go through.  As I was finishing up organizing my Maine pictures in flickr,  I heard over the radio that protestors had taken over the capital building and that it was on lockdown and that there have been gunshots.  The hou...

I spent the day at home.  I had phone calls from Peggy and Betty.  Peggy wants me to serve coffee in church this Sunday, and I agreed.  Also, next Tuesday I will be part of a team that assembles New Years Boxes for people who go to our church.  Betty offered to bring over a bag of clothing she is getting rid of so I can look through it and see if anything works for Carrie or me.  I agreed, but she never showed up. I worked on sorting and then scanning pictures from my trip to Maine in August of 2000.  Some of the pictures were already in a set in flickr and I am in the process of adding all the rest of them.  Unfortunately, I did not label all of the pictures, but I remember a lot about the places Peg and I went. I made another batch of cabbage roll soup, and it turned out really good.    In the evening, I talked to Christa on the phone.  And then I settled in to watch the first episode of the new season of THIS IS US and epis...

I had my semi annual dentist appointment this morning, for cleaning and check.  It went well.  I took some items back to the library.  I checked the "food box" behind the Methodist Church to see if all the tins of cookies I left were still there.  They were gone.  So I went to Rite Aid and purchased a dozen more and took them to the box.  No sooner had I pulled away from the box and a woman was there taking items from the box.   These very small tins of cookies were on sale for a quarter at all of the Rite Aids.  I hope several people get enjoyment out of them! I made myself banana pancakes for lunch and as I was finishing up, Mike called.  Someone messaged him asking who the "Niethe" was who taught at the First Presbyterian Church.  I told him that it was our Aunt Jane (Uncle Norman's wife).  I don't remember her or her family being at First Pres. but Cindy Landrigan told me a couple of times that she was taught by a fem...

I got to church early in order to help at the COFFEE BAR.  I was in charge of handing out cups of coffee to those who wanted it.  Sarah Hull was in charge of handing out cups of hot water along with either tea bags or hot chocolate packets.   I don't think everyone who was came to church took advantage of this.  There were two types of popcorn available, too.  It was the third week of AT THE MOVIES.  Pastor Craig showed clips of the movie:  RUN THE RACE, and wove his sermon into  the theme of the movie.  I hope to watch the whole movie.  I found it on HULU and will watch it soon. After church, I went to the LOCKPORT OUTDOOR STORE to purchase grippers for the bottom of my winter boots, in order to make hiking and walking safer.  Then I went to Rite Aid to get a couple of supplements since NATURE MADE vitamins and supplements were on sale BOGO. I napped after lunch and when I got up, I put some of my Christmas stuff away, ...

SECOND DAY HIKE: January 2, 2021 at Reinstein Woods

Image
I met up with Peg at her house and we headed to Depew so we could hike at Reinstein Woods. There were quite a few cars in the parking area.   We picked up a map and headed out.  The map was not all that easy to decipher.   After our hike we headed back towards Lockport, looking for a place to have lunch.  We stopped at Cracker Barrel, but their dining room was not open.  It was the same at Core Life.  We decided to go to Wegmans and pick up a few items.  It was getting late, so we decided to skip going out  for lunch and pick up something fresh to eat in the car.  I got a slice of pizza and Peg bought a small sub.   I had a piece of apple pie and an ice cream sandwich when I got home.  I was worn out, but decided to skip a nap and watch TV instead.  I think I was dozing off during LAW AND ORDER SVU, when Myrna called to tell me that she is not going to church tomorrow.   Later on I returned a call...

First Day Hike on NEW YEARS DAY 2020: January 1, 2021

Image
I wanted to do a FIRST DAY HIKE for the first time, but the closest one to Lockport was at Reinstein Wood which is quite a drive SO Marlene and I decided to do our own FIRST DAY HIKE this  morning and then Peggy decided to join us, so we met up at the parking area for the Kanyoo Trail at the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge.  While we were walking, Peg got a text from Ben saying that his Great Grandma, who is in a Buffalo hospital with double pneumonia had a heart attack.  Dottie is in her late eighties.   There were a lot of cars in the parking lot and a lot of people walking the trails even though it was pretty cold.   When I got home, I made myself a grilled ham and cheese sandwich for lunch, and then took down a couple of Christmas decorations and all of a sudden I started to feel really weary.  Peg called and said she wanted the recipe for the CABBAGE ROLL SOUP.  After talking to her I took a nap.   I tried to reach Sue by ph...

NEW YEARS EVE DAY 2020

Image
It is the last day of 2020.  What a year.  It started out with our President on trial IMPEACHMENT.  But he was not convicted of any crimes.  The liberals jello did not stick to the wall!!!  Thank God...........DJT was given more time to strategically improve the world with peace deals, etc.  I am just now remembering how the press talked about him when he said he was trying to get a vaccine before the end of the year.  They were brutal in making fun of him.  HOWEVER, HE DID IT!!!!  People are now being vaccinated against COVID 19.  What a miracle!!!! Anyways,  the first thing I did today was make a batch of chocolate chip cookies.  I followed a few tips that I got on the Facebook page for old fashioned recipes...............chilling the dough, using non stick cookie sheets and using Crisco in place of part of the butter.  STILL, they did not turn out as good as I was hoping for.  I need to get Vicky's recipe sin...
