Thursday April 6th, 2023 Flight 93 Memorial and Drive Back to New York

Image
We had breakfast at our hotel.  It was not as good as breakfast at our Ohio lodging but it was adequate, for sure.  Then we packed up and headed to the FLIGHT 93 Memorial.  A man at the hotel had given us very good directions so we found it easily.  First we stopped here, at the TOWER OF VOICES. And then we went to the Visitors Center and saw all of the exhibits.  It is very well organized and presented.  It was too cold and windy to walk out to see the exact site of the crash, but we could see the area from a in a small building which had a volunteer available to explain things.  After that we decided to head to New York without trying to go to the other places we had hoped to go to during this trip. We stopped at a rest area that offered bathrooms and a couple of places that sold food.  We decided to get a small lunch at the Burger King.  We both had Whopper Jrs.  I drove after that until we got fairly close to Erie, PA.  Ma...

Wednesday April 5th, 2023 Last One Half Day in Ohio and Drive to PA

Image
We had breakfast at our lodging (very good, as usual) and packed up the car and checked out of our room. We stopped at TROYER'S MARKET so Marlene could buy a few items for her daughter, Christiana. and then we headed to the Amish-Mennonite Heritage Center to see the BEHALT.  We had been told we could see it at nine a.m., but a different woman was working the front desk and she told us we would have to wait until ten a.m. for the first tour.  I took advantage of this time to go online and check my email, etc., since I had not had any time to do so before leaving our lodging.   There was a group of Amish or maybe Mennonite kids, I would say maybe middle school age there as well as a few other people.  The young man who did the "tour" was excellent.  I think he is a Mennonite.  He told the history of the Anabaptist Church(es) in very clear and understandable terms.  As we were leaving, Marlene mentioned to me that she was thinking she should get hom...

Tuesday April 4th, 2023 Second Full Day of Ohio Trip

Image
We had a hard time time getting hold of Erb, so we pulled into one of his stores (ERB'S Stove Center) on 39.  A man named Mark called him and he agreed to be there at his museum when we got there.  I saw a painting that I think Betty would like on the clearance table in the shop, so I purchased it.  We had a bit of a hard time finding the museum.    Erb is an Amish man, his real name is Ed, and he graciously showed us around the museum.  It is full of interesting stuff. This is a Coleman STILL !                     I bought a globe for one of Mary Ann's lamps. It was terribly expensive at thirty dollars, but I felt somewhat obligated to purchase something since Ed gave us so much of his time. From there we went to Baltic, and we saw a couple of old buildings just outside of town, associated with the Historical Society of Baltic,  and had lunch at East Main, (very good).  And then we went to the w...

Monday April 3, 2023 in Ohio Amish Area (First Full Day)

Image
We had breakfast at our lodging.  It was a very nice spread of food including waffles, cereal, banana bread, fresh fruit, bagels and toast, hard boiled eggs and more.  I had a banana and oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar and a piece of blueberry/banana bread.   Our first stop of the day was at the Amish-Mennonite Visitors Center.  We watched the fifteen minute video about Amish life in the area. This mural is on the front of the part of the building that houses THE BEHALT. Unfortunately, we were told  that BEHALT is closed today and tomorrow, but we can see it Wednesday morning before we leave.   This attraction now offers tours of two other buildings, a barn and a one room school.   We met up with our tour guide Richard Troyer and a couple who were taking the tour with us.  We were given the opportunity to choose three Amish businesses off of a list.  We chose the Amish quilt shop, a harness shop and a basket makers ...

SUNDAY April 2nd 2023 Heading to Ohio Amish Country

Image
Marlene arrived at my house at exactly 8 a.m.  She needed to stop at WalGreens to get a couple of items,  and then we hit the road.  She drove the first stretch mostly on I-90 and then I took over until we stopped for a picnic lunch at a rest area   Then Marlene took over and drove for a while and she took the final stretch through a lovely farming area (inc. Trail, Ohio) until we found our lodging at the INN AT WALNUT CREEK.   We were given a beautiful room and checked in about three p.m.  We discussed what to do with the rest of the day and then rested a bit. We had a list of restaurants open on Sunday and I told Marlene to pick one and she chose CHENG's GOURMET in Millersburg.  We were both happy with our meals. It was still early when we left Cheng's so we decided to go to Sugarcreek to see the large cuckoo clock, but it has not been opened up for spring yet.   Then we returned to our lodging.  I found PBS so we could watch CA...

MONDAY: I had a nine thirty appointment at BODY MECHANICS this morning.   My therapist, Mark, had me do several different exercises while there, and told me to continue doing the ones he gave me the other day at home. I went to Wal-Mart to pick up a few items.  Then I went to the Y to meet up with Jan.  I noticed that the Red Cross was there, in order to get blood, so I offered to donate blood, but all of the spots are filled up.  Jan was late, so I got on one of the recumbent bikes, right next to Sarah.  Jan arrived and we started walking.  We noticed that they were setting up tables in the gym and Jan thought maybe it was for a CPR class that she had signed up for.  She went down to check and found out that it was.  She said she met Sharon Dent when she was checking and they briefly talked about Jan's sister who died in a fire years ago, along with her husband.  Louise was there also.  Jan went back down to the class, and I walked...

MONDAY:  First thing this morning I did a home COVID test, which showed NEGATIVE.  I emailed my doctors office, and they called me and I was told that I can resume my normal activities.  Carrie returned to her program, so she must be symptom free and most likely they tested her this morning.  I decided to mop my bathroom floor and I cleaned out and straightened the storage area below my vanity/sink.  I called Jan and asked if she wanted to meet me at the Y at 12:30 and she did.  We walked for about 40 minutes.  We both signed up for the April 10th craft class.  It will be painting a bag and making a matching keychain. Before going home, I went to Aldi hoping they had corned beef marked down, but it looked like they had already been snatched up.  I also dropped of several baggies of cookies at the Little Food Pantry behind the Methodist Church.   When I got home, I continued working on my meal for tonight.  After I put the...
