Lunch with Sarah 12/28/19

This morning I found myself bored and wishing that I had planned to do something or go someplace today.  I thought it might not be too late to arrange to meet someone for lunch.  I called Sarah Benedetti because she had given me a gift certificate for the Davison Road Inn and we talked about going together.  When I asked her if she wanted to go to the DRI for lunch she laughed and said that she was waiting for her friend Sheila to arrive and that they planned to have lunch there.  She invited me to accompany them. I met them at the DRI.  I had the fish tacos, which were pretty good.  Sheila's Reuben sandwich looked a lot better, though.  We had a nice lunch.  I left while the two of them were still visiting, so that they could have some time together without me. I went to the Y and attempted to pay for my 2020 membership, but they could not accept it yet.  I also paid the $4 that I owe for the upcoming February craft class.  I walked the track and used the Sci-Fit for a little

Christmas 2019 Dinner at My House

David prepared a spiral ham, a  turkey breast and stuffing (he forgot to bring the gravy).  I prepared macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes,  carrots cooked in cider,  crescent rolls, corn, an assortment of pickles, baked custard, fruitcake and peanut butter swirl brownies. David, Peggy, Catherine, Scott, Lizette, Louis, Carrie and I were present for the meal.  Louis is Scott's son and Lizette is his mother.  Everything was delicious!  There were tons of leftovers.  Peg and David gave me a home security system which David will install soon. The day after Christmas both Carrie and I slept late.  Peggy came over for a little while.  I put things away and cleaned up after yesterday.  I watched DRIVING MISS DAISY.   Using my leftovers, I made Macaroni and Cheese Soup which turned out great!

12/20/19 Refrigerator and Christmas Lights

Image
My new refrigerator was supposed to delivered between 11 and 3 today.  It was actually delivered twice already, but both times the frig arrived damaged, so they were returned to LOWES.  I emptied my old frig again (for the third time) and waited and waited.  Three p.m. came and went, and I had  a really hard time getting through to LOWES.  When I finally got a human to answer, the associate tried to call the truck driver and was unable to get an answer.  So when he returned my call, there was little he could tell me. Anyways the frig arrived after four p.m. and it arrived undamaged. The two guys had to remove the front door in order to get it in.  They took ten percent off of the price due to being late. Betty and I had arranged to pick our friend Myrna (who has been housebound for months due to healing from a shoulder fracture) and her great granddaughter Madison up to take them out to see Christmas lights.   After having supper at the hospital (fish), we picked them up and headed

FRUITCAKE AND BEANS with Dumplings

Image
I made my first fruitcake a couple of days ago, using this recipe that is online, but is the same recipe Kay Nenni gave me a few years ago after I tried it during our Life Group Christmas Luncheon. FESTIVE FRUITCAKE 2 cups water     2 tablespoons oil 2 eggs 2 2 boxes quick bread mix (see below) 2 cups chopped walnuts 2 cups raisins PARADISE Old English Fruit and Peel Mix, 16 ounces (from TOPS) I added about 2/3 cup of my homemade cranberry sauce  1 Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour bottom and sides of 12-cup Bundt® or  10-inch tube pan. In large bowl, combine water, oil and eggs; beat well. Add  all remaining ingredients except corn syrup; stir with spoon until combined.  Pour into greased and floured pan. 2 Bake at 350°F. for 1 hour or until golden  brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 30 minutes.  Remove from pan. Cool 1 hour or until completely cooled. 3 Wrap tightly in

LIFE GROUP Christmas Party: 12/17/19

In the morning, I put my beans and the ham bone in my crockpot before leaving for FREEDOM Church for the Tuesday morning Life Group.  This morning we had a small Christmas party during our Life Group.  We had a pretty good turn out.  Most of us brought something to share.  We had cookies, bread dip, crackers and cheese, apple pie and MY HOMEMADE FRUITCAKE. I was happy that every bit of my fruitcake was taken and eaten and everybody said it was very good.  Elaine asked for the recipe.  The church staff joined us and we had a nice time together. After Life Group and the party,  I went home and had a short nap.  I was talking to MaryAnne on the phone when Betty called to ask if I wanted to go to SOLID ROCK for their monthly spaghetti dinner.  I said "no" because I was in my pajamas and did not feel hungry.  But she did not want to go alone so I said I would get ready. We met up with Marlene and Becky at Solid Rock an we all sat together.  The meal was very good.  After lea

Senior Social at the Lockport YMCA and more

Today was the SENIORS GATHERING at the Y.  It is always the third Monday of the month from 11 to 1 p.m.  Today's plan was BINGO, and a cookie exchange.  Each participant was asked to bring in a festive kitchen item for bingo prizes.   I think 25 to 30 people attended (all females). We played several games of BINGO. Doug and Susan ran the show. Brigit had never ever played bingo, and she was the first winner.    The picture I took of her choosing her prize did not turn out, but she is the one on the left in this picture with Elaine in the middle and Dee on the right.  Pam joined us.  Jan was there also. I also won three times.  I chose this candy dish the first time I won, and Elaine won the tray.  This is one of my winning cards There was a great selection of cookies. and we each chose two dozen to take home (but we snacked a bit before leaving). There was a door prize and Mary Lou won it which was pretty cool since she was the ONLY person who did not

CONNECT CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON: Dec. 15, 2019

Image
Peggy held the Christmas Luncheon today for seniors.  Betty and I helped set up the tables, tablecloths, etc. because the room we use is now used by kids groups during church.  It was a bit unorganized getting things ready because this was the first time we did it this way.  I think close to fifty people attended.   We had a gift exchange and I won this red glass bowl.  And Marlene gave me the Christmas Cactus, I think it was a Thank You gift for sticking with her the night of the bus trip and walking with her from the USA to Canada. The small candles were favors.  I also brought home a nice ham bone and the drippings from the hams.   My complete set of pictures from this event are here:   https://www.flickr.com/photos/juneny/albums/72157712222421788

CITY OF LIGHTS: The Chapel at Crosspoint

Image
A couple of weeks ago, Peg asked me if I wanted to go to this event at the Chapel at Crosspoint (in Getzville). and I said "sure".   I met up with Peg and David at their house a few minutes before 12:30.   Peggy was cooking a chicken/vegetable stir fry and said she wanted to send some home with me after we got back from the event.    It looked so good that I suggested we have it for lunch before leaving instead of stopping at a fast food place on the way to the Chapel.  David said he was not hungry and could wait until after the event.  So, I cooked up some instant rice and Peggy and I had her stir fry for lunch.  It was delicious!!!!! We headed out for Getzville and arrived early, which turned out to be a good thing.  The event was described like this;   A NOSTALGIC EVENING ON MAIN STREET Journey through a classic time in Buffalo's heritage. Be swept away in a nostalgic evening on Main Street with shops of old, a whimsical train ride, a breathtaking Christmas tr

Visitation and Christmas Decorations at Freedom Church

Image
I overslept this morning until a few minutes after nine a.m.  I needed to be at FREEDOM CHURCH at 10:45, I had to hustle a little bit.  I arrived at church to meet Peggy on time, but she was held up a bit.  While waiting, I decided to take pictures of the great Christmas decorations. Then we went to visit an elderly lady named Eliane Fezio.  She is 91 years old.  She came over from France when she was 17.   She has not been able to come to church for several months due to her health problems.  We had a nice visit including tea and turnovers.  I showed her the pictures of the Christmas decorations at the church. Once we got back to church, I stayed and put candy in candy dishes for Sundays CONNECT Luncheon.  Then I went to Walmart and then I came home.
