January is Coming to an END!!!!! 1/30 and 1/31/2020

Image
Yesterday (the 30th) I went to the Y and walked and used a few machines.  I ran into my sister in law, Janie and we talked a bit while walking.  My brother, Mike, was down in the gym waiting for a turn to play pickle ball.  After the Y, I met Betty at DENNY'S where they were offering free VEGGIE BURGERS to customers ordered a drink. It was pretty good, having a nice flavor.  Betty asked our server if there was a list of ingredients and she brought it to us.  It appears to me to be mostly artificial stuff and the only thing close to a vegetable is beet juice.  I don't think I will ever be OK with paying eight dollars for one, but I am glad I tried it. This morning (31st) I was wondering if I should go to the Y when Betty called and asked if I might want to go to the hospital for baked fish.  She agreed to pick me up at 12:15, but she forgot and went directly to the hospital.  I called her  at 12:25 on her cell phone and agreed to...

January 27, 2020 LOCKED OUT!!!!!

Since the break in at Peggy and David's house, I have been using more locks on my doors.  (as well as setting my motion alarm before I leave the house and before I go to bed) Unfortunately, when I went out the back door on the way to my garage to get my car and start it,  I locked the door after me.  That would have been fine but I had forgotten to unlock the front door which I normally use to exit and enter.  So, after I got my car started, I could not get back into my house because I did not have a key with me for the deadbolt. My purse with my cell phone was still in the house!  My neighbors Erik and Mary Turk let me use their phone and I called Peggy.  She thought she had a key for the deadbolt so I ran over to get it.  BUT, none of her keys worked.  David came over and broke one of the small panes of glass in my front door so I could get it.  I had keys for the deadbolt made years ago, but had never used them.  Now, I have one on ...

Sunday 1/26

I went to FREEDOM CHURCH an hour early to help Peggy get ready or the LIFE GROUP FAIR which was offering orderves.  For over an hour I washed and sliced vegetables and got them on platters.  Church was good. The LIFE GROUP FAIR went well.

1/25/20 CREATIVITY and COCKTAILS and Soup Supper at Methodist Church in Newfane

Image
I attended CREATIVITY and COCKTAILS at the Presbyterian Home in the afternoon.  I met my new friend Jan there.    Here is Allison getting the fun started. This was step one.       I think I was 2/3 of the way through in this photo.     I don't think I enjoyed this painting event as much as I have enjoyed others I have been too.  I could not see the leader showing us what to do, and I really messed up the trees. I hadn't been home too long when Betty and Myrna picked me up to go to the Newfane United Methodist Church for their donation soup meal.    Before going, we went over to see the deer that hang out near the antique shop which is near the old train station.   The meal was pretty good BUT for one thing.  When I asked for the LOADED POTATO SOUP, I did not know that it would be so greasy.  I should NOT have eaten it.  It was tasty, but greasy, probably mostly butter.  ...

Senior Social at the Y and Cheesecake Factory 1/20/2020

Image
I don't know why my alarm system went off in the middle of the night but it did.  When it did I realized that I did not have a plan in place of what to do if and when it did.  So, I got up, turned it off and checked all doors which were still locked. After a meeting at Cayuga, I went  directly to the Y for the January SENIOR SOCIAL.  I had reminded Jan, Elaine, Pam, and Louise and invited Marlene and Betty who had never been to a social.  Jan and Marlene met me there.  It was a very small group in fact, it was only me and Jan and Marlene who attended, the other four were the leaders of the group Doug, Marilyn and sisters Susan and Shirley. We broke up into two teams and played TRIVIA.  I kept score for my team, which consisted of Marlene, Jan and I.  Susan asked the questions.  The topics had to do with the fifties and sixties.  My team won by one point.     After the game, we had refreshments and discussed ideas for future...

Soup-A-Palooza 2020

Image
The first Soup-A-Palooza was in the summer or maybe fall of 2019 on  a Saturday at the Community Market along the north side of the canal, near Lake Effect Ice Cream.   I am not sure why they moved it to winter in a inside location, which is basically the Winter Community Market in Harrison Place. I picked Betty up and we met up with David and Peggy at this event.  I think each of us purchased tickets for five samples of soup.     Each participant then votes for the best soup.  I think the CHEESEBURGER SOUP (this one) was the best.   There was live entertainment  here is one of the long tables where the soup was dished out.           We purchased our tickets ($1 each) at this table.  Peggy and David.  It looks like this little girl ate a LOT of soup!  This man was collecting signatures on huge cards, which will go to active servicemen at holiday time. The event got more c...

January 17, 2020 Various Stuff including BONFIRE at Freedom North.

Today was Carrie's birthday as well as Christa's birthday.  Carrie turned 44 and Christa turned 35. I went out to "Cayuga" and had lunch with Carrie.  I took breakfast sandwiches and hash browns from Tim Hortons and chocolate milk.  She ate well.  I spent a little bit of extra time with her and got her settled on the couch. I decided to go to the Entenmanns Bread Store on the boulevard, but I stopped at Platter's first, where I took a picture of some Easter candy being made in the factory. I bought two oatmeal raisin cookies. I bought several items to freeze at the bread store and then headed home.  When I got home, I called Christa and wished her a Happy Birthday and we talked for a half hour or more. I took a nap and when I got up I started going through a box of pictures and other items that Peggy and David found when they went through the stuff from the attic last Saturday.   I was happy to find these pictures.   Bear at "the dumps" at Al...

1/16/20 and Pasta with Greens and Beans

Image
This morning I met a new friend (a guy who I met on Facebook) for a hot drink at Denny's.  He was interested in seeing what hikes are on my "bucket list".  I think Tom was a bit disappointed that I am not enthusiastic about winter hiking. Then I went to the Y and walked and used the recumbent bike for probably 35 minutes altogether.  Then I went home and took a nap before Peggy's Life Group.  I picked Lydia up and took her with me.  Life Group was pretty good:  in addition to me, Peg and Lydia, Mary Watt and Geneva were present.   One more get together and I think we will be done with this particular curriculum, and then the FREEDOM GROUP will start up. Peggy came over for supper.  I had prepared PASTA WITH GREENS AND BEANS, off of one of the recipe cards I got at the AGING MASTERY group.  I packaged some of the leftovers for Peggy to take to give to Carol Ann Hill, who is homebound and suffering side effects of chemo.  Mine did not ...

January 14 and 15, 2020

Yesterday, I attended the Tuesday morning Ladies Life Group.  When the group finished up, Betty, Cindi and I decided to have lunch at THE FIELDSTONE.  I was hoping that they had the French onion soup with salad bar, and they did.  It was one of the Monday specials.  So I ordered that.  It was very good, and came with fresh baked bread. Today, I had two medical appointments:  ENT and a follow up with Dr. Hodge who did my colonoscopy on 1/3.   The colonoscopy did not show anything.  Between the two medical appointments I went to the Y and walked on the track.  I ran into Sarah B. there and we talked for a bit.   She is in a lot of pain due to her hip, which will be replaced soon. In the evening, Betty and I went to the Royalton Center Methodist Church for their spaghetti dinner.  We met up with Becky there.  The meal was very good.    Becky and I talked about going to find her great great great grandfathers grave si...

I ran a few errands and went to the Y this morning where I walked and used a couple of machines for about forty minutes.  Then I met up with Mary Anne at ARBY's where we had lunch. Then we went to PRUDDEN and KANDT where Mary Anne planned and prepaid for her funeral.  I took a few pictures of a couple of old hearses in the small museum there where we sat while Shannon helped Mary Anne make some decisions.

Busy Sunday: January 12, 2020

Image
This morning I went to church at FREEDOM SOUTH (the new name for Faith Tabernacle).  After church I met up with Betty, Marlene and Vicky at THE OLIVE TREE, for lunch.  I had the Reuben which was pretty good. Then we all met up at the Taylor Theatre Meeting Room, at the Kenan Center for the Winter Art Show and Sale.   Members of the Niagara Arts Guild had their creations on display, and for sale.  My cousin Pete's son Pete was there with his metal creations.  Here is one of them:       Here is Marlene talking with young Pete.  She is interesting in learning more about metal creations. Vicky and Betty left early.  Betty did not seem at all impressed with the show. I went home and took a nap and at  five p.m. went to the official opening service at FREEDOM NORTH .  There were about fifty people there, and a few of them were not regulars at FREEDOM SOUTH.               ...

WOMEN OF FAITH New Year Celebration Breakfast and More 1/11/20

Image
This morning was the January WOMEN OF FAITH breakfast at the FAMILY WORSHIP CENTER.  It was the NEW YEARS CELEBRATION breakfast.  This breakfast is offered once a month and I attended two of them in 2019.  I asked Betty and Pam and Myrna to join me, and we met up with Vicky and Louise there.  I sat next to a woman named Joan Meyer, who I had probably met before.  We got to know each other somewhat and exchanged phone numbers.  I told her about some of the events at the Y that she had not heard about. Here is a group picture of "my squad"  lol.  From left to right, Louise, Myrna, Betty, Vicky and Pam.  In this picture Pastor Saundra is explaining the MUSICAL GIFTS game.  The woman with the scarf won the door prize and was showing it to some of the others. Pastor Saundra passed these around, it is the "motto" for the group. Pam won the BIBLE NAME GAME and got a nice prize  Pastor Saundra told the ...

Friday 1/10/2020

I slept in a bit this morning and then puttered around the house for a while. I called Peg and asked her if she wanted to have supper with me and she said yes, so I thawed out some homemade bean soup and got the ingredients out for corn bread.  I was just getting ready to take a shower when Betty called and asked if I wanted to go to the hospital for their fish either for lunch or supper.  I told her I would go for lunch since Peg was coming for supper. I picked Betty up and we went to the hospital for lunch.  The fish, as usual, was very good. Peg arrived at 6:20 and supper was ready.  After supper we went to "the bonfire" at FREEDOM NORTH.  There was a small group of people there, I would say about 20. After the bonfire, when we went out to Peg's car, it was totally dead and had to be jumped before she could take me home.

Lunch with Gail at CAFORA'S

My friend, MaryAnne came over for a little while this morning  and then I met up with my sister, Gail, for lunch at CAFORA'S, an Italian restaurant on 78 in Newfane.  We both had the baked rigatoni with a meatball.  It was good.  We had a nice visit and exchanged Christmas gifts. Then I went to WalMart to get ingredients for a pasta dish that I plan, and then stopped at Rite-Aid.

CRAFTY CREATIONS at the Y: January 8, 2020

Image
I had a dermatologist appointment today and on the way home, I stopped at OLD COUNTRY BUFFET for lunch.  It was pretty good, but not excellent. I took this picture for todays PROJECT 366, I went home after a stop at WalMart and then I took a nap, but I had to get up once and go outdoors and using a long twist tie, I secured the door to the storage area under the stairs. I picked Elaine up and we met up with Jan at the Y for CRAFTY CREATIONS. Here is my finished item:  It looks better in the picture than it does in real life.
