I had planned to go to the LADIES LIFE GROUP at Freedom Church this morning but I was suffering from diarrhea due to eating an ice cream sandwich yesterday afternoon.  I divided my time between the bathroom and my bed in the morning watching several episodes of SCHITT'S CREEK.   Betty dropped off a Paula's Donut for me!   Early afternoon I had something small to eat and then after checking the mail, took an item from the USPS regarding Mary Anne's mail to the lawyers office.  I also went to Aldi's to get some bananas and a can of soup.  Then to Rite Aid to get a few items.   John Urtel came over to get the new title for Mary Anne's car.

I made several phone calls this morning, mostly in regards to setting up appointments for my mammogram and dexa scan, and getting my previous mammogram pictures on a disk so I can take hem with me to the mammogram on November 13 at Windsong.   The discs are ready and I can pick the up any time during the day at the hospital here in Lockport.  No charge! I went to the library to return a book and read the newspaper and I also deposited a check at Northwest Bank.  I wanted to find out how their drive thru works.

During church today, we welcomed new members:  After church, Marlene and I decided to go out to lunch.  We thought the HONG KONG BUFFET was open but it wasn't and the FIELDSTONE was also not open.  We ended up at APPLEBY'S where we had the 2 for $25.  She got the steak and I got the ribs and we shared.   Our lunch was very good!  Much better than the Appleby's in Rome where Carol, Leslie and I had supper earlier this month. In the evening, I talked with Sarah, who had her hip replacement a month ago and is progressing slowly.  I also talked with Myrna.

Saturday 9/26/20 THE RETURN (televised) and Lunch Out

Image
Today was LOCKTOBERFEST.  I had planned on going first thing this morning but I was engrossed in a good book, so I stayed home until it was time to get ready for the televised event at church.    Franklin Grahams Washington, D.C. Prayer Walk.   (On Sept. 26, 2020, thousands of evangelicals will gather at the Washington Mall to participate in an event to take place in Washington, D.C., to pray for the sake of our nation and its people. This event is recognized as “The Return.”)  from their website. Several of us met in the sanctuary at 11:30 a.m.   We did a brief prayer walk in  the neighborhood near the church and then returned in time for the televised event.  It was very interesting.   It was neat to see the monuments and buildings in D.C. Peg, Betty and I decided to go out for lunch and we chose CORE LIFE.  We ate outside, and it was very nice.   However, that meal did not fill me up.  When we got back to Lockport, I decided to go to PIZZA OVEN for a couple of pieces of pizza.  And

Friday 9/25/20

This morning I took some jewelry to George Boes and then to Kurt at the coin shop.  Neither one of them is interested in any of it, pretty much declaring it all worthless.  Then I went to the library and picked up three holds and read todays paper.   I met up with Pam at SUB DELICIOUS on 31 and we had lunch.   In the evening, I talked to both Myrna and Becky on the phone.   Becky is healing up well from the dog bites she got a few weeks ago, although she is still in pain.

Went to Dr. Wirth's office to have my stitches removed (in my nose, due to the removal of some basal cell skin cancer cancer a week ago).  Drove up 78 on the way home, stopping at Feel-Rite to get some of the enzymes I use.   Later on in the day, I went to Rite Aid to get my prescription for generic Boniva In the evening I watched a documentary that Christa recommended:  THE SOCIAL DILEMMA.

Hiking and Geocaching at GULF WILDERNESS PARK on 9/23/20

Image
I woke up to a beautiful (but a bit chilly) fall day and decided that it was absolutely necessary to spend time outside.  I called Betty to see if she wanted to do something and she did!   We met up at her house and drove to GULF WILDERNESS PARK, an area very close to where I live, but to which I have never been!. Also, there is a geocache hidden there!     We enjoyed exploring a few of the trails, which we felt were not really well marked, but we could not find the geocache because the arrow on my GPS was pointing beyond where the trail ended.  I guess it probably needs to be approached from a different direction (different trail than the one we were on). When we finished it was lunch time and after some discussion we decided to go to SUB DELICIOUS ON 31.  However, when we got there, there were a LOT of customers waiting to order or to get their food, so we decided to go to the cafe at SPRING LAKE WINERY, just down the road. We really enjoyed eating on the huge patio at the winery.

Tuesday, September 22, 2020 Allergy Specialist

My appointment with Dr. Savi (that's what the office staff call him, but I don't think it is his real name) was this morning.  I really liked him.   I went through a list of foods and chose some that I think might cause me problems and I was tested for allergies to them.  The only two allergies that showed up were dogs (I thought I was allergic to cats) and molds and spores in the air.  However, Dr. S explained that the testing does not show whether or not I am sensitive to any of those foods.  He suggested that I keep a daily diary and "look back" at it rather than checking it every day or every other day.     UGH I drove east to 78 so I could go to Wegmans, where I bought groceries.

Marlene called me this morning and we agreed to meet at eleven a.m. on Market Street in order to take a walk.  In the time before having to leave to meet up with her, I called Univera to make sure they will cover my second endoscopy this year, then I rescheduled that procedure.  I also called the Dale Association to ask if any upcoming trips are scheduled.  I called KnowHow Tours and requested a refund for the two tickets I paid for for Kathy and myself to go see the Four Seasons Tribute that was cancelled due to the pandemic. I met up with Marlene at the appointed time and place and we had a nice walk.  I took several pictures. While we were relaxing on benches near Art 247, the lift bridge went up to let a small boat through.  After that, I went to Rite Aid and got my flu shot.   I prepared DAIYA mac and cheese (dairy free, gluten free and soy free) that I got at Wegmans for my lunch.   I had a nap.  Cindy (the realtor)called and also a woman from KnowHow tours called regarding my r

Church was especially good today.  It was VISION SUNDAY, and announcements were made about a few new things.  I guess the biggest is that we will be going to two Sunday morning services: one at nine a.m. and one at eleven a.m.   A slide show/video was shown of how Freedom reacted to the pandemic, starting with March when Cuomo was announcing the shutdowns, and continuing through to the present. After church I went to Rite Aid hoping to get a flu shot, but the pharmacy was kind of busy and it looked like there was only one person working.   I decided it would be a good time to drive out to the Catholic cemetery and check out the new engraving on Mary Anne's grave.  The engraver also took care of putting the year of Mary Anne's mothers death (2008) on it.  I took a couple of pictures since Alice asked me to take one and send it to her.  I went home and had lunch.  Betty dropped off the prize I won at the basket raffle yesterday:  a basket with three Pyrex bowls and a few other k

I had tried to reach my cousin, Rebecca, over the past few days without success.  She was bitten by a dog eleven days ago.   I called her this morning and reached her.  I asked her about the dog bite and she told me the whole story including how the hospital here in Lockport did not do a good job treating her, all the bleeding she did, and how she ended up back in Lockport seeing Dr. Schraft, who is taking good care of her.    This is a picture that her son Scott posted on the day it happened.  (September 13th). A friend of Becky's who is a nurse is changing the dressings daily.   Betty and I met up with Becky at the Hartland Stone School for their Autumn Festival.  As usual, they have a large basket raffle,  I spent twenty dollars on raffle tickets even though I didn't really see anything that I liked.    I also spent five dollars on a future raffle, at a future fundraising event for foundation repair for another schoolhouse in the area.   Most likely I WILL win because it is

Friday September 18th, 2020

I dropped off some bills, etc. at the lawyers office and then met with Kevin Kopek at Northwest Bank.  I signed a LOT of papers, and it sounds like everything has been done that needs to be done at this point.   I decided to make a trial run to the doctors office in Tonawanda that I will go to next Tuesday to start my allergy testing.  I didn't realize that it is just down the road from Paula's Donuts, or I would have skipped doing it.  HOWEVER, after I located it, I went to Paula's and purchased a plain cruller.  Then I headed back to Lockport, going down the boulevard.  I realized that I would be going right by Trader Joes, so I decided to stop there.  I called Peg to see if she wanted me to pick up anything for her.  She did, so I looked for the two items she wanted and only found one of them. When I got home, I prepared lunch and then took a nap.

Thursday, September 17: Dr. Wirth

Today was my appointment with Dr. Wirth to have the "basal cell skin cancer" removed from my nose.  Unfortunately, this morning I had to deal with diarrhea, after several days of being diarrhea free.  I had to leave my house a little bit after seven a.m. to get to Dr. Wirth's office in Williamsville by eight a.m.  I stopped at Tim Hortons on 78 right before Millersport Highway to use the restroom, and after that I was fine.   My experience with Dr. Wirth was very good.  The staff at this office/clinic are super friendly, helpful and efficient.  After leaving there, I went to the WEGMAN's that is right next to Essjay Road, where the office is.  I spent a little under one hundred dollars.  They offer a lot of gluten free items there, and I purchased a couple. When I got home, I called Betty and she brought my mail over.  Several items were Mary Anne's.  I prepared myself lunch:  salmon, fried rice and broccoli and a couple of slices of organic rosemary bread. Back to Lockport Sept. 16, 2020

Leslie and I packed up and cleaned the cottage and left right around 9:30 a.m.  I drove south to the thruway and stayed on it until the DEPEW exit.   I am not sure where I was on the thruway when I purchased my lunch (roast beef sandwich, fries and a drink).   I drove 200 miles and arrived home at three p.m.   I was home for about ten minute when I had to get right back into working on Mary Anne's estate stuff.  John Urtel called and said he needed more paperwork signed regarding the sale of the car.  He brought the paper work over.  It is a good thing that I did not cancel the insurance on the car yet. Also, there was a call from Jim Masters, telling me that the cottage developed another water leak, so the water which was turned on last Friday is now turned off again.   I brought all of my stuff inside and got most of it put away, which was unusual for me, but I am glad I made the effort because tomorrow morning I have an appointment in Amherst with Dr. Paul Wirth to have some ba

We decided to go to the ROME SAND PLAINS to hike the yellow trail and look for geocaches.  We found four out of the five we looked for.  This area is right behind the parking area.   At the very last cache we found the trail was kind of barricaded;   I think Leslie would have been OK with going around it (which would have been difficult) even if it meant returning the same way and going around it again, but I was getting hot and tired, so we turned back.  We are not sure how we managed to  follow the trail and exit at a spot that was NOT where we parked the car.   Good thing we marked the coords of the car, this helped us to know in which direction to walk.  Even though we had packed a picnic lunch we decided to go out for lunch and had to settle for Denny's since so many restaurants are closed or only offering take out.  The salmon off of the seniors menu was good.   Then we found two geocaches near Lee Center.  THE BEGINNING OF THE TRAIL and THE END OF THE ROAD. We decided to lo

I called Mike in the morning and we discussed the water leak problem.  He called Randy (the guy who put the new roof on).  Randy came and looked at the area that we think the dripping came through.    Leslie and I went to Rome to walk the Mohawk River Trail and find a few geocaches.  We walked most of one side of the river and then walked back, finding four geocaches along the way.  We saw the old abandoned ampitheatre and one cache was hidden by an old abandoned power house.   I think the most interesting thing, though, is this:    After we got back to the car it was close to one p.m. so we had lunch right there at the car (crackers and cheese, grapes, and we split the small pie I bought at Millers on the way here).  We then went to the STEUBEN STATE HISTORIC SITE where  Baron von  Steuben , is buried beneath this mammoth grave marker.   and then found several geocaches in that area and in and around the Village of Remsen.    We cut our outing a bit short when I realized that I needed
