Week of Sunday October 26th through Saturday November 1st, 2025

SUNDAY:   Church was really good today, Pastor Craig gave a really good message.  Glenda, Carol and I had agreed to have lunch at THE VILLAGE EATERY after church, but at the end of the service, several other people wanted to join us.  It turned out that there were ten of us.  The only glitch was that when we got there, the VE was not open.  So, we decided to go right next door to the Davison Road Inn.   It was a few minutes before one p.m. so they were getting ready to close up the breakfast brunch.  We had a nice table for ten in the room with the brunch, and several televisions.  The table behind us had a few people who were very interested in the game. THE BUFFALO BILLS vs THE CAROLINA PANTHERS, I think the game took place in North Carolina.   The Bills were WAY ahead when we left, and DID win the game.   I stopped at Niagara Produce and bought an ACORN Squash.  I spent the restenof the day at home....

SUNDAY:   after church (which was really good, the Trimbles spoke, and a lot of people went forward at the end), I met up with Cindi, Glenda, Carol, Lori, Linda Stein and Andrea at THE BIG DITCH.  I had the SMASH BURGER with fries and an order of vegetables.  I brought some of the burger and vegetables home.  Linda Stein asked me to let her know about upcoming events, so I texted her a few of them in the evening.   MONDAY  When I tried to get on Facebook this morning, I was unable to.  My account has been either suspended or disabled.  I met up with Jan at the Y and we walked for a half an hour.  Then I had my appointment with Dr. Chubineh, but I saw his PA, I think her name is Lisa.  I really like her but I requested that I see Dr. Chubineh next time (in six months).  After going to Walgreens and picking up a prescription, I decided to drive out to the new location of THE LITTLE BAKERY.  Last night I did a MapQ...

Week of Sunday October 12th through Saturday October 18th, 2025 CHERRY CRUMBLE RECIPE

SUNDAY October 12th.   Church was very good, several people were baptized.  I don't know this lady, but she is battling stage four cancer. After it was over, Jan, Glenda, Peggy, Lori, Louise and I went to APPLEBEE's for lunch.  I had the special with the grilled chicken sandwich.  It was good, but the French fries were not as good as they usually are.  I went home and took a nap.  I spent the rest of the day at home.  I got caught up on TV shows that I missed last week and worked on my trip pictures on flickr. MONDAY:  October 13th.  I was kind of planning on meeting up with Peg at the Y to go to a class in the pool at nine a.m. but I was still in bed at nine a.m.   After breakfast, I called Jan and she and I met up at the Y at twelve fifteen.  In the evening I found the movie THE HOMESMAN that I had seen before.  Hilary Swank stars in it and is VERY GOOD. TUESDAY the 14th:  I went to Life Group this morning and...

FRIDAY OCTOBER TENTH 2025 (Leaving ASP) and Saturday the 11th

We all got up early today and started packing up.  I think both Leslie and Maggie had a head start on me.  I think it was a little after ten when the cars were both packed up.  Leslie took a couple pictures of Maggie and I standing on the front porch of our cottage. This is the ONLY picture from today. Maggie took the wheel and I took the map and we drove north through toe park into Salamanca.  We took back roads for a while until we got to 219, which took us north to 20 and 78.  We stopped at Maggie's favorite hot dog place ZORBA'S(I think maybe in Lancaster) and had hot dogs, fries, onion rings and drinks.  I spent the rest of the day unpacking and putting stuff away, working on my Flickr account and this blog.  I returned a call from Mary Shaw, about the change in the date for starting the MOVERS and MAKERS group.  I called the director of the Barker Seniors and ordered my "catered lunch" for the Octoberfest which will the on the same da...

Thursday October 9th, October 10th, 2025 in Allegany (last full day of this trip)

Earlier in the week, I mentioned that maybe on Thursday we would stay IN THE PARK all day due to having plans to go places and do things the previous three days. Basically, I think we just relaxed in the morning and read our books.  I finished THE CROSS AND THE SWITCHBLADE and then went to the book about JOHN THE BAPTIST.  We had burgers and Maggie's fried potatoes for lunch (she really knows how to fry potatoes)!! Leslie and I decided to go geocaching after lunch.  Maggie asked if we had planned any time to just do nothing.  I told her that she could take that time for herself now while Leslie and I are gone.  She liked that idea.  Leslie and I looked for three geocaches and found two of them.  We walked a short distance on the THREE  SISTERS Trail to look for the one we could not find because there were so many possible hiding spots.  Also, we checked out the cottages and campsites near Quaker Lake (I think they are called Cain Hollo...

Wednesday, October 8th, 2015 Third Full day in Allegany State Park. (but MOSTLY in Pennsylvania)

Image
Today we wanted to SEE THE ELK.  Actually. this is what Leslie wanted to do.  Maggie drove and we headed south into Pennsylvania.  We had packed our lunch.  (I packed ingredients to make a peanut butter and banana sandwich).  Maggie started out driving and a strange light came on in her car.  Leslie and I looked in her manual, and could not find any info. about that.  A man parked near us at the store (where we stopped  to check the manual) suggested we drive a bit down the road to the Allegany Maintenance buildings so we did, and two guys there immediately knew what it was, something to do with the fumes around the gas cap, and they said it was nothing to worry about.  When we got gas in Bradford, the light disappeared.  We headed south but we really did not know where we were going.  We stopped at a small bar/restaurant and were given directions to the State Park, so we decided that was probably our best bet.  We stoppe...

Tuesday, October 7th, 2025 SECOND FULL DAY In AIlegany: it was a SALAMANCA DAY (rainy)

Image
We had a pretty solid plan for today:  to go to Salamanca and get wood, go to the Salamanca Museum and also go to the casino to use coupons for $15.00 free play.  We all got up at the agreed upon time which was eight thirty and got ready for the day.  Leslie drove and we went to Salamanca and located the museum.  We saw the strangest thing when we were looking for parking near the museum.  A man in an upper floor of a building was throwing pillows and other bedding down into a dumpster.  I would say it was probably four floors down.  Turns out it the DUDLEY HOTEL, which had been vacant for several years, but has been purchased and will soon be renovated.   Once we entered the museum we were greeted and given a private tour by a fellow who really knows the history of Salamanca.   T he Salamanca Area Historical Society Museum is located in a beautifully restored 1882 bank building consisting of 3 floors of displays and themed r...

Monday, October 6th, 2025 First FULL DAY IN ALLEGANY

PERFECT FALL WEATHER TODAY.  This was a great day, blue sky and sunshine and I took this picture from the front porch of our cottage.  We packed sandwiches for our lunch and headed to Bradford, PA late morning.  Our main goal was a to go to the Visitors Center and get a map of Pennsylvania.  We had a heck of a time finding it, even though we had an exact address and had been there last year.  I went into the YMCA and got directions and I think they helped.  When we got to the Visitors Center, the worker seemed to be in a real hurry and not all that interested in talking with us. But we got what we needed.  We went to McDonalds on Main Street and there was a picnic table so we ate our lunch outside, and I went in and bought drinks for all of us.  I was not really sure of how to get back into the park the way we came, since once before I ended up driving all the way up the east side of the park to Salamanca and then had to drive all the way do...

Sunday, October 5, 2025 Going to Allegany State with Maggie!!!!

Maggie picked me up a little before ten a.m. and we left Lockport before ten.  She was having some trouble with her eyes, that she thinks was caused by one of her medications.  We stopped at KROLICK'S for lunch.  I had chicken and ribs, with salt potatoes and a green salad I ate all except one of the potatoes.  Maggie did not eat much.  We arrived at ASP around two p.m.  We drove directly to the Quaker Registration Office and got ourselves and Maggie's car registered and got our key about 2:50 and into our cottage at three p.m. Maggie went over to the QUAKER STORE and purchased a bundle of wood.   Our cottage  is in a great location, facing the road, but very private.  Maggie took the room with the double bed and I chose one of the twin beds in the other room.  We brought all of our stuff in and got settled in.  I think I was laying down, resting when Leslie arrived.  We helped her get her stuff in and we prepared ho...

October 1, 2025 through October 4th, 2025

Oct. 1 (Wednesday).  I had my appointment with Dr. Kurbs this morning, and then I called Pam and she agreed to meet me at the Y so we could walk.  We walked at least a half hour, maybe forty minutes and had a nice visit.  Before going home, I picked up a drink at Panera's and then lunch at the Subway on Robinson Road.  The Subway I usually go to has disappeared!  It must have closed when I was on the cruise, and their former space has been taken over by another business.  I spent the rest of the day at home.  I called Dee Mann and we talked for a while.  She is looking for an Alaskan cruise for she and I to go on together.  I am not one hundred percent sure that this is what I want, so I will have to wait and see what she comes up with.  I made a potato salad in the evening, and had that with my leftover fish from yesterday.   October 2nd:  I spent the entire day at home.  I worked on my Flickr account, my Alask...
