I had my hair colored and cut at the clinic this morning, so I missed going to the Y.  I met up with Vicky and Louise at Wagners for a fish fry, and then we met at the Kenan Center and walked around that neighborhood for about 35 minutes.

March 28, 2019 FUNERAL and CARD PARTY at the PRESBYTERIAN HOME

Image
Today was Jim McDonnel's funeral.  He passed away about a month ago.  He had been diagnosed  with dementia or Alzhimers several years ago, and had gradually deteriorated.    His wife, Dee, took excellent care of him.  In the end, he was hospitalized for a couple of weeks, and Dee was sick at home and could not spend time with him. The funeral was today. It was very good.  The funeral meal after the service was very good, also.  I went home and took a nap and then met up with Sarah at the PRESBYTERIAN HOME for their SECOND ANNUAL CARD PARTY and BASKET RAFFLE.   Sarah won a gift certificate for the Davison Road Inn. She and I played a card game, I think it is called PHASE TEN.  I don't know who won, because we stopped playing when they started the basket raffle.  I won a private planetarium program for twelve at the CHALLENGER LEARNING CENTER!   Deserts and drinks were provided.  The deserts were fantastic and I brought a few home with me.

March 27, 2019

I went to the Y for STABILITY and SILVER SNEAKERS CIRCUIT.  I walked a bit and used the recumbent bike between those two classes.  After SSC, I took a shower and then met up with Pam so we could go to see Delores Zinck  at Harris Hill Rehab. We decided to have lunch first, so we went to TED'S HOT DOGS.  I had a hot dog and an order of onion rings, which I shared with Pam.  Then we headed south on the Transit.  We stopped at Kohl's so she could buy a birthday gift for her grandson. We only got to see Dee for a few minutes since she was waiting for physical therapy to start.  She looks good.   She said she plans to move to the long term care unit and continue doing PT and OT, in hopes that she can return home eventually. Pam and I went to Paula's Donuts on Main Street Clarence before heading back to Lockport. I took a nap in the afternoon and then got a FB message from Bianca, who wanted to come over for a while.  She is in town due to her brothers procedure (stent pl

I haven't felt inspired to blog a whole lot lately since I don't know if google is going to delete all my blogs on April 1st.  Something google is going to shut down, but the language of their announcements regarding this shut down is not at all clear (to me, anyways).  But life continues here in Lockport. Last Thursday night I met up with Gail and Becky at the fire hall in Olcott for an event to promote tourism in the Olcott/Newfane area.   There were lots of free raffles to enter.  We didn't stay long, it was loud and crowded.  I came home with a bag of freebies. I was hoping to go to a Pop Up Photography event at the Masonic Temple on Friday, which included an opportunity to take a tour of the Masonic Temple, but I could not find anyone to accompany me.  I was planning on going by myself but it snowed and was cold and I could not find the energy to motivate myself to get dressed and out of the house. I decided to invite Peggy and David over for Saturday dinner.

March 20, 2019 FIRST DAY OF SPRING

Image
It turned out to be a very nice sunny, blue sky day, and it got warmer as the day progressed.  I went to the Y for STABILITY and SILVER SNEAKERS CLASSIC.   Just before I went to STABILITY I ran into Louise, who had spent some time in the pool swimming laps.  She suggested that she and I meet up at Wendy's for lunch after she finishes grocery shopping and I am done at the Y.  We agreed to meet there at 11:30 p.m.  I called Betty to see if she wanted to join us, but she is not feeling all that well. I met Louise at Wendy's and we had a nice lunch.  Then we went to the KENAN CENTER MANSION for the BUFFALO ARTS STUDIO INVITATIONAL.   We talked with the man painting the parlor (Blonde-Sherwin Williams) and the woman working the front desk.   The exhibit was really not much of the kind of art that either Louise or I prefer ( I guess its modern or abstract art), but we did enjoy Ann Stievater's paintings in the living room, especially the one titled MOURNING LIGHT, which is

Saturday 3/16 Out With Marlene

Image
This morning I was laying in bed wondering if I should call someone and make plans to do something or go someplace today when Marlene called and asked if I wanted to go shopping for bathing suits.  She said she knows of two places that specifically sell bathing suits.  She agreed to pick me up at 9:30.  In the meantime I recalled that the History Center was holding its final day of an art exhibit of paintings of local scenes so when she arrived I asked if she would mind stopping there before heading out shopping.  She agreed and we went.  It was a great exhibit This house still stands in Lowertown and I plan to look for it soon.  I have the exact address from the description of the painting. Then we  headed towards the Boulevard Mall.  We never made it to either of the shops, but we both found suits in J.C. Penneys.  Then we had lunch at TGI Fridays.  We had the big ribs and a cobb salad.  Both were very good.   Marlene wondered if there was any other place I wanted to go, but I

GAMES and NACHOS NIGHT with "Letters for Ladies"

Image
Laura set up a fun evening for the Madonna House girls and the ladies from Faith Tab who are penpals with them.  Unfortunately, only one woman from the Madonna House (Cori and her infant son, Liam) came, but there were several woman from Faith Tab and several children. I played two games of JENGA with Laura and Kyla. This last picture is me playing UNO with Laura, Kyla, Crystal, Autumn and another girl whose name I can't remember.  It was fun.

I went to see Delores Zinck at Harris Hill Rehab today.  She was having OT when I finally found her after walking around and asking for about a half an hour. On the way back to Lockport, I stopped at the large Niagara Produce and bought a few items, some for tonight's supper.  When I got home I had a quick lunch before going to Peg's house for her life group.  We had a great meeting today. Betty and Peggy came over for supper.  I used two of the products  I bought at Lynn Squires TASTEFULLY SIMPLE party I went to a while back.  I used ginger ale to make the beer bread. I added carrots, cheese, ham and potato to this soup mix, and added an extra cup of water.  Between the three of us, we had five helpings and I have a whole quart left. It was a very good meal.

3/13/19 the Y and Corned Beef Dinner

Image
I went to the Y this morning for the two exercise classes that I like (and need) STABILITY and SILVER SNEAKERS CLASSIC.  I walked a bit and used a few machines, then headed home.  I stopped at Wendy's and got a chicken sandwich.  I took a nap in the afternoon and then got ready to go to CAMBRIA CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH  for their annual corned beef and cabbage dinner.  Becky and Pam came to my house and I drove to the church.    As always, this was a wonderful meal.  Everything was delicious and served up in big portions.  Becky was dressed up for the occasion.

Airport and Olive Garden

I picked Betty up at the airport.  It seems that I arrived at just the right time.  I was able to "stand" in my car and wait for her...….even though an attendant came and told me I had to move on...……..right after speaking to him, the car behind me pulled out so I backed up into his space...…….as I was backing up I heard Betty yell STOP ! After that, she drove and we went to Olive Garden where we had the endless soup, salad and breadsticks and shared a huge, decadent chocolate desert (I brought half of it home).

This is what I posted on FACEBOOK:  " What a great day. This morning I participated in two classes in the pool at the YMCA, lunch at TACO BELL and then I went to see THE INVISIBLES and to Paula's Donuts.   Peggy Niethe Belfield   I think you would like this movie. (but, it has subtitles). I need a nap but its going on six p.m., so I think I will have to skip it." After taking care of Petra, I hightailed over to the Y because I was late for AQUA STRETCH.   I made it just in time and then I stayed for AQUA JOG.  I left five minutes early so I could get a shower.  I walked a bit and used a couple of machines and then I met Dee at TACO BELL.   She accidentally went to MIGHTY TACO, so she was late.   I left my car at Taco Bell and Dee drove us in her new car to Eastern Hills Mall.  We purchased tickets for THE INVISIBLES.  We were early, so we walked around the mall until it was time.  Dee was surprised at how many storefronts were empty. We both enjoyed the movie eve

Thursday March 7th, 2019

So far this has been a quiet week...………I went to church on Sunday and drove Myrna and Louise home afterwards.  I have not done much.  On Monday, I went to the Y and did SILVER SNEAKERS SPLASH and worked out.   Tuesday I went to Elaine's LIFE GROUP, and then a few of us went to Wendy's for lunch.  I arranged to pick Louise up yesterday morning and take her to the Y with me but she cancelled out, so I went alone and did my two exercise classes:  Stability and SS Classic, and ten minutes or so of SS Circuit before heading to Appleby's to meet up with the girls I went to high school with, Barb, MaryAnn, Liz and Janice were there. I had decided to stay home today and get stuff done, but Vicky called and wanted to meet up at the Y to walk, so we decided on 11:30.  I did what I could at home and then went to take care of Petra and then deposited two checks in Citizens Bank and then went to the Y.  I ran into Marlene and she and I walked until Vicky arrived and then Terry Ackerma

Saturday, March 2, 2019

Vicky called me this morning and asked me if I had plans for the day and I said "no".  She suggested that she and I meet at the Y and walk the track and then take Myrna out for lunch at COUSINS CAFE.  I agreed, and got ready for the day and went and got gas and took care of Petra and headed over to the Y.  I was early for the time we had agreed on, so I used the recumbent bike for fifteen minutes or so.  Vicky arrived and we walked the track for about 40 minutes.  We ran into Marlene and the three of us talked for a bit. I met Vicky and Myrna at COUSINS.  I had the Reuben and a piece of chocolate cream pie.  We had a nice time together and we talked about other places we would like to go out to eat at!

The day after the windstorm (Monday) I don't think I made it to the Y in time for SILVER SNEAKERS SPLASH.  I was talking on the phone with Louise and she was very upset so I let her talk, and then I called Faith Tab and left a message for Pastor Craig asking him to contact her.  I was disturbed because Louise said something like "I see no reason to go on."  She recently lost her husband and is having a hard time coping.  I must have made it to the Y later on, though, but I don't recall what I did there.  I also went over to Peg's house and took care of Petra.  I had an appointment with Dr. Legeratta in the afternoon and he found no issues with my eyes (I was following up on the flashes I noticed two weeks ago). TUESDAY morning, Betty picked me up and she drove to the airport.  We stopped at the OLYMPIC RESTAURANT for "a snack" but ended up having breakfast.  After dropping her off at the airport, I headed back to Lockport and went to the Y and walke
