In the morning, I led Peggy's FREEDOM GROUP at FREEDoM CHURCH.  Those present were Jan, Maggie, Mary and Lisa.  Cindi came late, I think after she and Jack golfed.  The meeting went very well.  Maggie and Jan invited me to a get together at their apartment complex on the 4th of July (Monday), starting at three p.m. or so.  After the meeting, Cindi,  Mary and I went to THE FIELDSTONE for lunch.  I took these pictures of some of the sunflowers that are growing all along the front and south side of the restaurant: I napped in the afternoon and read my book THE WILD TRUTH by Carine McCandless, the sister of Christopher McCandless, the  young man who perished in Alaska after close to two years of tramping and exploring the wilderness, without any contact with his family.   The book is very good.  I watched some of  BACKSTAGE LIVE AT THE RYMAN (it is a three hour special that was live a night or two ago, featuring the guys who run The Daily Wire.    I watered my flowerbeds since we have

WEDNESDAY, June 29th, 2022 COMMUNITY GARDEN BLOCK PARTY

Image
In the morning, I ran several errands including taking my cooler over to FREEDOM CHURCH since they needed it for the BLOCK PARTY at the Community Garden.  I went to WalMart and purchased the game SEQUENCE and a few other items including some food items to take to the Little Food Pantries.  I also picked up some items at the Dollar Tree.  I delivered food to two of the pantries and then went to the library and picked up two books they had on hold for me.  I picked up maps for the Garden Walk at the Discovery Center. When I got home, I found a phone message from Betty regarding our friend Ann Stimson.  She was involved in a bad accident last night, when her son accidentally backed over her with a small tractor (apparently a new lawn tractor that he was trying out for the first time).  She is in ICU at ECMC with several broken bones.  Peggy told me that Pastor Craig has already been to see her and she is conscious and will start several surgeries tomorrow.  I know Ann from church and the

The Ladies Life Group at Krull Park went well, but there were only eight of us.  Elaine, me, Pam, Vicky, Mary, Karen, Glenda and Dee.  The weather was absolutely perfect.  After the meeting, we all met up at Gordy Harpers, and Jenny joined us.  I had the baked fish.  Dee invited me to play SEQUENCE with her and Elaine at Elaine's house, and I considered it, but declined.   I found a long sleeved dark blue t-shirt in one of the shops at GH's.  It is not really tye dye, but it is something similar.  I particularly like the color and will wear it with jeans. I spent some time in the evening going over some of the information in the owners manual for my car.  I wanted to set the alarm, but found that it is already set.  I talked with Barb on the phone, she is still not feeling all that well.

SUNDAY   Church was good today.   Homeland Security had contacted churches across the country to warn of possible attacks due to the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs Wade two days ago.  There were not a whole lot of people in church, so I have to wonder if some people were nervous about this.   After church, Peggy, Betty and I went to THE AMHERST BUFFET for my birthday lunch.  Peggy drove my car, since I don't drive on expressways.   Our lunch was great.  The restaurant was VERY crowded at first but started to thin down about halfway through our meal. I napped in the afternoon and finished watching INTO THE WILD:    In the evening, I watered my flower beds.  I forgot to watch HOTEL PORTOFINO at eight p.m. on PBS, so hopefully I will be able to get it on "on demand" tomorrow.   I found this movie on HULU:   Ann Rules A MURDER TO REMEMBER. MONDAY:   First thing in the morning, I made some phone calls to make sure that everyone knows about the change in location for tomorrow

THURSDAY:   Peggy called several times this morning, regarding possible changes of the start time for our REVELATION study group.  We finally settled on 12:30 and I said I would provide lunch.  I went to NIAGARA PRODUCE and purchased grapes and cider in the morning.  I made a macaroni salad. I left early for the meeting and went to Dollar Tree and bought a birthday card for Tyler and sandwiches at Arby's before going to the church.   It was just the three of us (Peg, Betty and I) in the group today.  Peg and Betty liked the sandwiches. I took a basket of clothing of Peggy's that needs to go through the dryer, and I took care of that when I got home.  Peg stopped by after her medical appointment to get them.  She gave me $20 to purchase lunch for the three of us the next time we meet, which will be in two weeks. FRIDAY:  I got up wanting to do something since it was looking like a very nice day.  I called Betty and she said she wanted to stay home and I could not reach Jan, so

TUESDAY: Before going to Life Group, I called both Betty and Elaine and we all arranged to go to SOLID ROCK for spaghetti, arriving as close to five p.m. as possible. LIFE GROUP was going well, but we got somewhat off track, with personal testimonies.  When I left at 11:45, we had not yet started the study.  I went to the Y for the Seniors Ice Cream Social.  I took my own ice cream (Ben and Jerry's) in a cooler bag.  I arrived a few minutes before it was scheduled to start (noon) and several people were already there, eating their ice cream.   One whole table left a few minutes after I sat down.  Jan arrived and joined the table I was at.  Marilyn, who was one of the original leaders of this group, was there.  Joanna was serving the ice cream.   I did not see Joanna take this picture which she posted on the Y's facebook page, with this caption:  T oday we had our first senior social and towards the end a woman came in to see what we were doing. She had just joined on Saturday

I met up with Jan at the Y at 11:15 a.m. and we walked the track for about 35 minutes, with a five minute rest.  We then met up with Elaine in the parking lot and I drove the three of us to Eastern Hills Mall.  First, we went to THE HOPE PROJECT Store.  I found a couple pair of shorts and a few t-shirts, some red placemats and a can opener.   Then we drove to the back corner and parked closer and we went to the DIPSON Theatre for this movie Unfortunately, there was only one person working and there was a line of people waiting to purchase tickets.  Since the one person was also dispensing snacks, it took a long time.  We got into the theatre a couple of minutes before the movie started.  I loved it, Elaine liked it and I think Jan tolerated it since she has not ever seen any episodes of Downton Abbey. After that, we went to CORE LIFE for an early supper.  I had the COBB salad with sides of chicken and sweet potatoes.  Then I dropped them off at the Y.  Elaine and I talked about going

SATURDAY:  I called Becky to tell her about the basket raffle at ACE HARDWARE.  I called Betty to remind her that tonight is the bluegrass concert in Johnson Creek.  She wants to go and will invite both Myrna and Elaine E. to accompany us. Pam called, wanting to go to ACE for their event todayl  I hated to say I can't because I have been trying to get together with her for several weeks.  She finished up her job at the school next Tuesday and will have the summer free.   I met up with Peggy at MULLENS and we looked at a stackable washer and dryer, and then went to Home Depot so I could show her the one I saw there the other day.  Then we met up with Mike and Gail at THE FIELDSTONE for lunch.   Mike had brought a box of old family photographs and we looked at some of them.   When I got home, there was a message from Betty saying that she changed her mind about going to Johnsons Creek for the bluegrass concert. I took a nap, and when I got up I took a half hour walk around my neighbo

I met up with Cassy and Quinn for breakfast at LaPORTS on Pine Street.  Our original plans were for them to pick me up and we would all go to Paula's Donuts in Clarence for donuts.  However, I thought bringing me back to Lockport would take more than a whole hour out of their day and hold them up for their drive to Oneonta.   They really did not know what route they would be taking but they were OK with my suggestion that we change plans.   I didn't know that they do not really eat breakfast!  Cassy ordered orange juice and a cinnamon bun but she only took a couple of bits of her bun.  Quinn only had a cup of hot tea.  I ordered a full breakfast but did not eat all of it.   We said our goodbyes at my car and I gave them an envelope full of pictures from a trip to DisneyWorld in Florida years ago to give to Megan.  Cassy took one last "selfie" which I hope she shares on FB.   I went home for a while and did a small load of laundry before going to FREEDOM for Peggy'

I picked Cassy and Quinn up at the Buffalo airport at 11:20.  Both of  their flights were smooth and on time.  We went back to Lockport and picked up slices of pizza at Mark's Pizzeria and brought them to my house where we had lunch.  They took the SUBARU for a drive while I cleaned the kitchen up.  I think they drove over to Locust Street to see the mansions.  When they returned, we went down to the canal to show Quinn the locks There were two tour boats going through the locks. and after that, we went to LAKE EFFECT ICE CREAM.  They shared a dish with two scoops of ice cream and I had a apple cider popsicle.  Then they dropped me off at home and went to check into their motel room.  I took a nap and got up a little before five p.m.  David and Peggy arrived at the same time that Cassy and Quinn arrived.  David and Peggy brought chicken wings (mild and medium) and roast beef for beef on weck from Cusimano's.  I provided the rolls and potato chips to complete the meal.  Everyt

MONDAY:This morning I dropped three watches off to my cousin George Boes so that he could put new batteries in them.  Then I had an appointment with the PA at my gynecologist's office.  Then I went to BASIL TOYOTA to have a small "recall" taken care of.  It took about an hour, so I was glad I had the latest issue of  NEWSMAX with me.  At some point I went to WalMart and purchased a couple of items.  I also  picked up a prescription at Rite Aid and picked up a small sub at SUBWAY.  I napped a bit in the afternoon.  I sewed a MONTEZUMA NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE patch on my outdoors vest. I talked with Peg on the phone.  She left work early today and is not feeling top notch.  We tentatively agreed to get together at either her house or my house on Wednesday evening, along with Cassandra and Quinn.  David will pick up chicken wings and rolls and roast beef for beef on weck.   I need to pick up some horseradish or horseradish sauce and I will get lemonade.   I put ROUND UP on

Saturday June 11th, 2022 DAY OUT in AKRON With Betty and Sunday the 12th

Image
Betty picked me up at 10:15 and we headed to Akron to go to Kathleen Contrino's place that I learned about during her presentation during the Allegany Nature Pilgrimage.  We found it easily, but it took double the amount of time that mapquest said it would.  Kathleen was there to meet us, along with a young man she hired to help her out with some tasks.  She gave us a couple of maps and set us loose. We had a nice walk on some of her property in spite of LOTS of geese poop.  Unfortunately, Betty was wearing flip flops, but she often wears them when we are hiking.  The pathway for the bird trail had not been mowed, so we skipped that.   Kathleen showed us some garden decoration items she has for sale.  I purchased a small blue glass heart for five dollars.  Kathleen said it came with something to hang it up, but she could not find the hangers.   Murder Creek  We drove by a former schoolhouse and stopped to take pictures, and the owner invited us in.   The owners older sister attend
