WIND STORM !!!

I was planning on taking Betty to the Buffalo airport for her flight to Florida in the early afternoon BUT just before we were planning on leaving, she got a text saying her flight was cancelled due to the windstorm.   We went to LaPorts for lunch.  I had the turkey dinner. The wind started up while we were at LaPorts.  I did not lose power, but many homes in Lockport have lost it.  Betty was without power for several hours.  My Spectrum services were in and out (tv, wifi and phone).

SOUP STROLL in Williamsville, NY

Image
A few days ago, Betty brought up the idea of going to the SOUP STROLL in Williamsville on Saturday.  I agreed.  We asked Marlene and Pam if they wanted to join us.  Pam had something else going on today and Marlene had to wait to see about what her son wanted to do, since he had mentioned going to this event with her.  Unfortunately, Betty got sick and could not go.  Marlene and I met up at Faith Tab at eleven and she drove. T he soups were offered in places that were within walking distance of where we parked.  We stopped first at the IRISHMAN Restaurant since this was one of the locations where maps could be picked up.  Unfortunately, they were not real maps, but were lists of the soups, restaurants and addresses. We headed towards Elderwood first, stopping at Apple Wood Cafe along the way.  We had a great time...……………...we sampled eight soups.  The best was Cheeseburger Soup at Elderwood. A couple of the places were out of soup when we got there.  Seven of the soups we

I arrived at the Y a bit early and went upstairs and walked a bit and then used three machines before getting ready for the pool.  I arrived fifteen minutes early for AQUA STRETCH so I exercised on my own until it started.  The group at AQ was smaller than usual.  After AS, I went over to the deep end for AQUA JOG (or deep end workout) and I lasted until about three minutes before it ended when I had to leave the pool in order to use the ladies room.  After my shower, I went upstairs to walk for a bit and ran into Pam, so we walked the track together.  We decided to go out to lunch. She wanted a fish fry so we agreed on HOOVER'S in Sanborn.  We met up at my house and I drove us to Sanborn.  The full size beer battered fish fry was $14 and it came with a HUGE piece of delicious fish, a large serving of fries, coleslaw, mac. salad, bread and butter, a drink and a medium cone.  I brought about 1/3 of my meal home for supper tonight.

Tuesday February 19, 2019 (SOLID ROCK Spaghetti Dinner)

Image
I went to LIFE GROUP at Faith Tab this morning.  It was well attended.  When I left at 12:15, they were discussing whether or not to continue reading and discussing this book Personally, I wish I could get my money back, and would like to move on to something different. Betty and I met up at Burger King for lunch.  I had a Jr. Whopper, which I enjoyed.   Betty picked me up and we went to SOLID ROCK Church in Gasport for their spaghetti dinner.  My cousin, Becky, was there.  The meal was good and I enjoyed visiting with Becky and her friend.  Betty showed us this A congratulatory note on her retirement from President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.    I had forgotten that I wrote to the White House and asked them to send this.  As we were leaving the church I noticed the sunset:    We had a lovely moon tonight, I took this picture from my front porch.

I arrived at the Y for AQUA STRETCH early, so I went up and walked around the track a few times and then went down to the locker room and got ready.  I got out to the pool about ten minutes before AS started, so I exercised on my own until it started. I talked with Sarah a bit while waiting.  Betty arrived a few minutes late.  I got out of the pool a bit early because I needed to use the bathroom...…….good thing I did, since three out of the 7 showers are broken. I went upstairs to walk the track and I ran into Louise and her brother (I think his name is Neal).  I walked with them for a while before they left.  Then I used the fat belly machine, the fat thigh machine and the recumbent bike. I stopped at Wendy's and bought a baked potato and took it to the library with me, where I read the last three days newspapers and picked up a book.

Church this morning was pretty good.  Craig gave a powerful sermon.  It was announced that the church building that we might purchase in the north end of Lockport would be open for us to go inside and look around between one p.m. and two p.m. today.  So after church, I arranged to meet Betty and Dee at Wendy's for lunch before going over to the church.  Betty arrived the same time as I did, so we went ahead and purchased salads for lunch.  (the chili on the taco salad was NOT hot).  Vicky and Jenny arrived when we were almost finished with our salads.  Dee arrived as we were leaving.  I told Betty that we should have it announced in church that anyone who wants to should meet at Wendy's for lunch. I arrived at the church a couple of minutes before one p.m.  Here are the pictures I took.  Apparently, this was once a busy church! The owner was present and he was telling the history of the building.  I think he said it was dedicated in l889 or maybe 1898.  It is

CANADIAN/AMERICAN ADVENTURE including coffee.

Image
This was the most exciting thing that has happened to me in several weeks (it's winter, after all).  Peggy asked me to accompany her on a drive up to Canada to pick up some coffee.  The coffee was ordered somewhere in Canada by the Snyder's, a missionary couple who live in Mexico.  The Snyder's are close friends of Peggy's and she has been on several mission trips to their ministry.  I don't know why but the coffee could not be shipped to the USA.  Sooooooooo Ben F. arranged to have it sent to a business in Niagara Falls, Canada.  The team of teens that Ben is taking to Mexico in a few days are going to take the coffee with them and give it to the Snyder's.  So anyways, Peg and I drove up to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada to pick up the two twenty pound boxes of coffee.  We picked it up without incident and then we went to AlMac's Buffet where we had the breakfast buffet, even though it was noon.  We had had the dinner buffet at a different AlMac's locat

Y, Wendy's, Kenan Center, and BINGO

I had a pretty busy day.  I arrived at the Y a little early for AQUA STRETCH, so I went up and walked a few laps around the track before getting ready to go to the pool.  I still arrived early and exercised on my own in the lap pool for ten or twelve minutes before going over to the family pool.   Both Betty and Elaine arrived as it was starting up.  After AS, I went over to the deep end of the lap pool for AQUA JOG.  I only lasted about 22 minutes (out of 30) because I needed to go to the bathroom.  After my shower, I met up with Betty and we walked a it, and I used a few of the machines.  The back stretch machine is out of order.    Betty and I met up at Wendy's for lunch. Then we went to the KENAN CENTER where we met up with Pam.  Cindi L. had arranged this get together, but she had an emergency situation and had to go to the eye doctor so she did not make it.  The STORR'S RETROSPECTIVE was very good. The Kenan Mansion is especially beautiful and we enjoyed seeing the

GOOD HAIR DAY and Funeral

Image
Finally!   I had an appointment at the cosmetology clinic two weeks ago today, but it was closed due to a snow or ice storm, I cannot remember which.  So I rescheduled it for one week ago today, but I could not get my car started, so I had to cancel.  TODAY WAS THE DAY!!!!!   I had my hair colored and cut and then rushed home to get dressed for Frank Meisenburg's funeral at Faith Tab.  I was about ten minute late, but I think I only missed music and Peggy reading the 23rd Psalm. The funeral was very nice.  Frank was honored by the navy, and Louise was presented with a flag. Then a fire department, where he must have volunteered, honored him.  There was a meal provided for family and friends after the funeral.  I contributed a five bean salad.  I was happy to see several women who attend the Tuesday morning Life Group present at the funeral and many stayed for the luncheon.  Frank's granddaughter, Anna, and her mother sat at our table an it was good to talk with them. I wa

THREE Exercise Class Day and More!!!!!!

I went to the Y for the STABILITY class and then stayed for SILVER SNEAKERS CLASSIC.  In the few minutes between those two classes, I went upstairs and did a few minutes on the Sci Fit and also used the back stretch machine.  Then I went to AAA and picked up maps for Peggy and David's upcoming Florida trip. After a nap, Betty picked me up and we went to the Y for the four p.m. ZUMBA GOLD class.  The teacher was Amanda and two younger women (maybe in their twenties) joined us.  So, it was a small group of four in the class.  This class seemed a lot different from the previous ZUMBA GOLD class that Betty and I joined a while back, same room, different time of day and different teacher.  We walked around the track three or four times after the class. After leaving the Y, we went to Walmart because Betty needed some salt for her sidewalks.  I bought a bag, also.  Then we went to the Presbyterian Church for the DOLLAR DINNER, but there was a sign on the door saying that it was cance

YMCA and Kalamata's

Yesterday during the painting event, Betty found out that today is Vicky's birthday.  So she and I arranged to take her out to lunch today and she chose Kalamata's.    I saw Marlene at the Y this morning, during SILVER SNEAKERS SPLASH and asked her if she wanted to go along with us and she said yes. PANERA's had tables set up at the Y this morning offering fruit, bagel sticks, cookies, macaroons and hot drinks. After SSP, Marlene and I walked on the track for a bit before going over to Panera's.  I had the cabbage rolls, which is a Monday special.  The order was HUGE and I brought most of it home.

PIZZA, PAINTING AND PASTRIES (CONNECT Seniors Group) at Faith Tabernacle

Image
Today after church Peggy held an event for seniors PIZZA PAINTING and PASTRIES.   I had invited my friend Sarah and she invited her friend Sue.   I had also invited Elaine.  So, I asked Peg if I could reserve a table for myself and my friends.  She agreed, so I sat at a table with Sarah, Sue, Elaine, Betty and Marlene and Pam joined us. Terri Nelson has a business she calls PAUSE AND PAINT.  After our pizza and salad lunch, she led us in this project.  I forgot that I had my camera with me, so I did not take pictures at the event.  But someone else took some and posted these on Facebook:

Zucchini Crisps

I stayed home today and got some stuff accomplished.   Late morning I was making cookies for tomorrows CONNECT event when Betty knocked on my door. At the same time, the phone rang and it was Peggy. I had a zucchini left over from the dinner I prepared the other night.  I sliced it thin and tossed with oil and then dipped each one in a mixture of garlic powder and bread crumbs.  I baked them on a rack on a cookie sheet.  450 degrees for about 22 minutes.  I liked them!

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 4 through 8, 2019

Early Monday morning I decided to call the DALE ASSOCIATION to see if they have any upcoming SAFE DRIVER CLASSES for seniors, the ones that get you ten percent off of your car insurance for three years.  I was in luck!  I was told YES, one is starting at 12:30 today.   So after SILVER SNEAKERS SPLASH and working out and walking on the track at the Y, I stopped and got a cheap lunch at Wendy's and headed to the DALE and completed the first day (three hours) of this course. TUESDAY:   I went to Elaine's Life Group,  there ended up being 13 of us, but most everyone was late.   Then I stopped and got a slice of Cheese Steak Pizza at Mark's to take with me to the Dale, where I completed the second half of the safe driving course. WEDNESDAY:   woke up to everything iced over (including my car)  and stayed home.  Schools were closed.  I stayed home and did some cleaning and scanned pictures for LAKE HOPE 1999 IRC get together. THURSDAY:  When  I went out to start my car, I f

2/3/19

Church was great this morning.  I was especially happy when my new friend, Sarah came, bringing her friend Sue along.  They are both signed up to go to the Pizza, Pastry and Painting event next Sunday.  The sermon was really good this morning. After church, I met up with Betty at Wendy's where I had a baked potato, and she had a b. potato along with a chicken sandwich. Then we went to the Y.  Betty stayed a half an hour, I stayed a full hour and walked and used five machines.  I got back to using the fat thigh machine, the fat belly machine and the stretch your back machine after not using them for a few weeks, due to a slight pain in my left side that I thought might have been caused by overdoing it on those machines.  I only used each of those machine for a very short time today.  I did ten minutes on the IMPRECOR (not the real name) and five or six minutes on the Sci-Fit.

SENSE AND SENSIBILITY 2/2/19

Image
Cindy L. bought tickets for 13 to go see SENSE AND SENSIBILITY at the Irish Classical Theatre in Buffalo.  Cindy, Karen, Jenny, me, Pam P., Bev Snell, Vicki, Pam C and her daughter, Amber, Rachel and her mother, Diana, Diane and one more Marlene.  We all met at the church and divided up into three cars, the drivers were Marlene, Cindy and Jenny.    Pam, Karen and I rode with Jenny. The play was very good, they only used a few props, mostly chairs and tables, which were moved around to create various scenes.  Cindy and Renee after the play: After the play, the drivers took us back to church and eleven of us went to THE FIELDSTONE for supper.  I had the unlimited soup and salad bar for eleven dollars. I had two bowls of soup, two plates of salad (with their hot bacon dressing) a couple slices of bread and butter and a few of Cindy's French fries.  Everything was very good.  Most everybody took home leftover food.

Feb 1, 2019 YMCA activities

I got to the Y about 9:10, so I went upstairs and walked and used the Sci-Fit Machine for five minutes before getting ready to get in the pool.  I arrived about five minutes early and went into the lap pool an exercised until it was time for AQUA STRETCH.   Betty and Vicky arrived about halfway through that class.  After that, I went over into the lap pool for AQUA JOG (formerly known as deep end workout).  I stayed for 25 minutes of that half hour class.  Then Betty and I went upstairs and walked and she used one of the treadmills  and I used the recumbent bike and the  Imprecor. In the evening, I picked Betty up and we returned to the Y for the CHILI COOK-OFF.   Betty and I sat with Vicki and Ron, and Elaine and Sarah.   It was a great event.  We arrived at five and there were a few chili's out and they kept coming in. We were able to sample as many as we wanted.  I avoided the ones that were labelled as having high heat.  They had bread and butter, and some of the cooks ha
