SATURDAY 10/30  Betty and I signed up for a guided walk to the POOR HOUSE CEMETERY across from the Niagara County Jail this morning but the weather is awful, cold, damp and rainy so we decided to not go.   I set up an appointment for a COVID booster tomorrow morning at WalGreens.  I asked Betty if she would pick Maggie up to take her to church tomorrow since my appointment is at 10:45 a.m.  The British series THE SPLIT is great!!!  I finished it.  I talked with Leslie on the phone.  She is doing well.  She has pretty much decided to NOT get the booster shot. SUNDAY 10/31    I went to WalGreens and had my COVID booster shot this morning.  The worker who gave it to me was dressed up as a witch.  I barely felt the injection.  I arrived about ten minutes late for church.  I dropped off the two Operation Children Child boxes that I put together.   I stayed home the rest of the day, mostly relaxing.  I talkd with Christa and Nikolai on the phone.

Friday, October 29th, 2021 Kenan Center and Panera's

Last night I had the idea of going to the Kenan Center today for the watercolor exhibit.  So, this morning I called the Kenan and asked if they still require reservations ahead of time (as stated on their webpage).  Candy answered the phone and she said to just come in, no reservations necessary.  I called Cindi and asked her if she was free and she said yes.  We agreed on twelve thirty and I said "lets call some others and see if they want to join us".  I called Pam (she said yes), Marlene (she said she would try), Elaine (she said she was too worn out from working outside all day yesterday), Sue R. (she said no) and Geneva (I left her a message). Before going to the Kenan Center, I went to DOLLAR TREE and purchased items to put my second OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD box together, this one is for a boy. Anyways, it ended up to be Cindi, me, Marlene and Mary who met up at the Kenan Center.   Pam did not join us.  The four of us enjoyed the exhibit, and then Marlene, Cindi and

I got up a bit early and reviewed my plan for today's FREEDOM GROUP.  I arrived at the church  early and made sure that the heat was on, and the room was arranged to suit me.  Pastor Craig happened to come down and he asked me how I was, and when I told him that I would be leading Peggy's FREEDOM GROUP, he offered to pray for me, WHICH WAS GREAT and he offered some encouragement.   People started arriving a couple of minutes before ten a.m. and I started the meeting going around five minutes after.  Everything went smoothly and there was a LOT of discussion.  I think it went well, and now I feel more confident about doing this, which is good since I will be leading the group twice while Peg and David are on vacation next month. When the meeting finished, I called Paula and she picked me up at the church and we headed to SIMPLY PIEROGI which is one part of CHRUSIKI'S in Williamsville, at the Eastern Hills Mall.  There is a sit down restaurant, Simply Pierogi (which is cafe

First thing in the morning, I ran over to FREEDOM CHURCH to pick up a copy of the Leaders Notes for tomorrow's FREEDOM GROUP.  I also dropped off some food to the Little Food Pantry behind the Emmanuel Methodist Church.   Then I went home and got ready to go to Rochester with Betty, Myrna and Elaine E.  Betty picked me up first and then we went to get Myrna and then to Gasport to pick up Elaine and then we headed to Rochester to have lunch at THE GOLDEN CORRAL. When we got close to Rochester, Betty said "Elaine, how do we get there?" and Elaine said she did not know.  I had offered to do a mapquest a couple of weeks ago, but Betty said not to since Elaine knew how to get there. UGH.  Anyways we got to the restaurant fairly easily thanks to the directions we were given by a woman we asked.  It is a BUFFET restaurant. The senior price is a little over eleven dollars.  We all enjoyed our meals.   They could have used a lot more labels and having them all in the right spot

I slept very poorly last night even though I took TWO sleeping pills.   After breakfast, I decided it would be a good day to do some shopping especially since I was all out of milk.   I went to Home Depot and puchased a smoke detector to replace the one that broke recently (one of those that is supposed to last for ten years, YEAH RIGHT!!!).............it was the replacement for the first one that gave up the ghost after a couple of years) and I also purchased batteries for all of my smoke detectors, and I will ask David to check them on Thanksgiving Day.   I went to THE DOLLAR TREE and purchased items for my Christmas Child box and a couple of other items.  Then I went to Aldi to get milk and bananas.  However, I purchased a LOT more than that.  I stocked up a bit on toilet paper and paper towels.   I purchased a salt lamp that changes colors.  However, I am going to return it because it does not have a plug on the end (the kind that would go into an electrical outlet) and it does n

Sunday October 24th, 2021 Return to Walton Woods

I picked Maggie up for church this morning.  Church was good!   After church, Betty suggested that we go to the refuge to walk the SWALLOW HOLLOW trail.  I agreed.   Before leaving church, we asked Cindi if she wanted to go with us.  She said she wanted to, but would need some time to pick up lunch for her husband who has been working all weekend on fixing a leak in their house.   I needed to run home and change clothing and shoes, and Betty offered to pick me up there.  We went to Wendy's for lunch and called Cindi who suggested we wait for her at Wendy's and she would pick us up as soon as she finished her lunch.  By that time, though, we had changed our mind and decided to go to WALTON WOODS in Amherst.  Betty and I had been there before.   Cindi picked us up and we headed out.  We found it easily enough and set off on the trailhead closest to where we were parked.  We had a nice walk.  I forgot to take my camera.  Betty took several pictures and I asked her to send them to

Saturday the 23rd of October, 2021

I decided to prepare chicken and biscuits today, and decided to have someone over for supper.  I called Betty first and she agreed.  The menu will be chicken and biscuits, sweet potatoes, fruit salad and brownies for desert.   Elaine called and gave me information about a donation dinner at the UNITED CHURCH  OF CHRIST next Wednesday.  I added that info to a list of events that I will give Betty when I see her tonight.   I vacuumed and straightened up and organized and changed two of my lampshades to fall colors and showered and washed my hair and then I took a nap.   I prepared the chicken and biscuits and the sweet potatoes, but skipped the fruit salad due to time running out.  Betty brought a small bottle of wine and we had a nice visit.  She had some testing done at the hospital here in Lockport, there is a possibility that she will need to have her gall bladder removed.  I gave her the list of upcoming events. I watched a few episodes of SVU in the evening.  I messaged Maggie to

Out and About with Jan: October 22, 2021

Jan and I had agreed a couple of days ago to get together and do something today ( Friday October 22, 2021).   When I called her this morning, I suggested we go to GLENWOOD CEMETERY and find some of the gravesites in this book.  So we met up at my house and I drove. When we got to the cemetery, we found that it was very hard to follow the map and find the spots highlighted on it.  So we wandered around a bit (in the car) and checked out the newer buildings where caskets are stacked.  By the time we were ready to leave it was lunch time and we decided to go to DENNYS because Jan was in the mood for pancakes. We had lunch and then went to the YMCA where we walked the track for close to a half hour and then spent some time on the recumbent bikes.  Jan signed up for the upcoming November craft class.  When I picked up a flier for this class I noticed that the date on the flier was one week earlier than the date that both she and I had signed up for.  We mentioned this to the fellow runnin

I picked up a script at Rite Aid before going to FREEDOM CHURCH for Peggy's Freedom Group, which went very well. After that, Peg came over to my place and we took the air conditioner out of the upstairs apartment and she helped me figure out how to put a new battery in one of my sensors for my alarm system, and also put a new battery in the thermostat upstairs.   I chose an outfit to wear tonight and laid it out and changed purses before taking a nap.  When I got up, the phone was ringing and it was Elaine who told me that I should arrive ten minutes earlier than we had agreed on.  So I hurried up and got dressed, but I didn't like the way the white lacy top I chose fit, so I quick chose a different top and different jewelry and I arrived at Elaine's place on time.   We arrived a few minutes early at CLASSICS V.   When I tried to register, I was told that I needed tickets for the four of us, so I went in and found Peggy who was able to give me two tickets.   Anyways, they

Wednesday, October 20th, 2021 OUT AND ABOUT with MARLENE: Enjoying the fall Weather

Marlene called at nine a.m. and said that YES, she felt good and we agreed to meet up at the parking area for the Kanyoo Trail at the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge.   I left a few minutes early in order to go to the headquarters first, hoping to find a brochure listing fall activities. However, headquarters was not open yet and there were no brochures in the kiosk.  I backtracked to the "barns" and pulled in right after Marlene.  One of the barns was being torn down.   We headed down the trail on the right hand side but this time we decided to turn right onto the cross country ski trail.  We had to get off to one side of the trail when this guy and this machine went by. We came to what seemed to be the end of the trail where we found a lookout platform over an area which must be swampy part of the year. and after sitting on a bench for a few minutes we turned around and headed back.  We came to a spot where we had to choose which trail to take, and we started down the wr

First thing this morning, I met with Kevin Kopec at Northwest Bank and we worked on liquidating some of my investment money.  Then I went to the Ladies Life Group, which was very good.    I decided not to go to lunch with the group since I was planning on eating out at SOLID ROCK at supper time. Elaine picked me up and we met up with Becky and Sarah at Solid Rock for their donation SPAGHETTI dinner.  It was very good.  Betty was there with Myrna.   Betty called in the evening about a tour of the poor house cemetery on Oct. 30th.  She is going to try to make arrangements for she and I to go on this tour. I watched THE STARLING on netflix. Marlene and I arranged to talk about nine a.m. tomorrow morning and if she is feeling strong enough, she and I will meet up somewhere for a walk.   I decided to spend some time trying to figure out how to use SPOTIFY on my Roku TV.  I was trying on my laptop yesterday or the day before and was unable to complete the log in process.  However, tonight i

MONDAY returned!!!!!  I slept in a bit and then decided I needed to get moving on a few things.  I made a few phone calls.  I contacted Dee and Jan with info about the presentation at the Palace Theatre tonight. I contacted Crystal with a reminder to bring her vaccination card and a mask Thursday night, and she will remind Bonnie, and I will discuss all of that with Elaine tonight.   I have been concerned about the SUPPLY CHAIN issue including shortages and realized that I should stock up on items I need.  First, though, I went to the Y and signed up for the next craft class.  Then to WalMart where I got a few groceries and a huge package of toilet paper and paper towels and some other items.  Then to Rite Aid where they had three filled prescriptions for me.  Then home for lunch and a few household tasks before a nap.   When I got home, I found a note from Paula thanking me for my donation to the RIDE FOR ROSWELL, and some photographs from the time she spent with Cindi, Mary and I at

October 17, 2021 CONNECT LUNCH

Image
I picked Maggie up for church this morning.  Church was good.  Pastor Craig mentioned  Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn  and a commencement speech he gave at Harvard in 1978.  I think the title of it was  A WORLD SPLIT APART.     I intend to look it up and read it later on.  I left the sanctuary early in order to help Peggy set up for the CONNECT luncheon.   I think 30 to 35 people attended.    The spread included egg salad, chicken salad for sandwiches, tossed salad, soup and desert.  I stayed afterwards to help clean up and then took Maggie home.

10/15    I accompanied Carrie and the medical liaison to Mt. St. Mary's Hospital so Carrie could have an ultrasound.   After that I went to a fall bazaar at Messiah Lutheran Church in Lewiston.  I bought ten dollars worth of tickets and deposited most of them in a basket that had three leather like travel bags.  I went to DeCamillo's and bought a piece of pizza and a pumpkin pie.  I went to Hibbards and had a small chocolate custard (and a few LACTO pills).   In the evening I talked with Peggy, Betty, Myrna and Elaine and Connie on the phone.  Tomorrow, I will pick up two turkey dinners at the Emmanuel Methodist Church and take them to Myrna's place so she and I can have supper together. 10/16   I was thinking about going to the library to the last day of the book sale when you pay a couple of dollars and can fill up a bag, but I decided not to.  I was finishing up baking a batch of oatmeal raisin cookies for tomorrows CONNECT luncheon when Peggy and David arrived.  David t

I started a soup in the crockpot before leaving for  Peggy's FREEDOM GROUP this morning.  It was a smaller group this morning, and it went very well.  I left immediately after and headed home where I had a quick lunch and checked my mail (and added a couple of items to the crockpot) before heading over to BEAUMAN'S to have my car  inspected.  It passed!!!! I called Pam about four thirty p.m. and asked if she wanted to come over for supper, but she had already eaten.  She came over a little later on and we took a long walk and then visited for a while here at my place.  We decided that some day soon we will go to the NIAGARA HOTEL, since it has been revamped.  However, when I messaged the NH on facebook and asked about their lunch menu, I was told that they do not have a kitchen and do not serve any food.  When I told this to Pam, she said that someone told her that the food was good! I talked to Betty on the phone for a bit.  We decided to NOT go to Ellicottville this coming Sa

YESTERDAY, I went to LIFE GROUP in the morning.  It did not finish on time, but I left at 12:30 before it actually ended.   I ran into Marlene in the parking lot.  She looked really good, maybe a little pale.  She is recovering from COVID and said her recovery is progressing.  She said that she just came from the doctor and was told that her lungs are good.  She has another chest x-ray coming up, and after that she hopes to return to work.  I don't recall what I did the rest of the day, except that I made coleslaw in the evening.   TODAY, I had an eye doc appointment in the morning and I was there close to two hours.  I told Dr. L about how my right eye seems foggy and blurry compared to my left.  He said I have a tiny tear in the implant that was put in after my cataract surgery (which I think was just about four years ago).  He said it can be repaired by laser and it is a very simple procedure that can be done at his Williamsville office.  He said I do not need to have it right
