LAST DAY OF NOVEMBER, 2020

Image
I found out this morning that Cindra Enzinna and her two co workers at the Lockport Care Net Center all have COVID.   I was at Peggy's GATHER AND GIVE event eleven days ago at Freedom Church.  All three of these women were there.  I did not have any contact with any of the three of them.   Also, Chris Prawel was there, and he is in the hospital with COVID and he has cancer and has had a few chemo sessions.   Cindra is in the hospital with pneumonia as well as COVID.  Chris and Cindy both have underlying health conditions.   Peggy asked me to make phone calls regarding her luncheon event for seniors on the 13th.   Her original plans were to offer either sit down or take out lasagna meals to seniors.  She has now made it ONLY take out meals.  I agreed to make those calls.   I reached an answering machine when I called an appliance repair shop hoping to set up a house call for someone to check my dryer which does not work.  They will be open tomorrow and I left a message. BUT NOW, I

Sunday, November 29, 2020 RETURN to Online Church

Image
I decided to not go to church today.   Peggy suggested I stay home.   Two men from church have been diagnosed with COVID, both of them have health issues.  I have not had any contact with either of them or the wife of one, but it is starting to look like Niagara County might shut down soon, and I am preparing myself for that.   Carrie was picked up around ten a.m. this morning.  It is a very nice day outside.............sun is shining and mild temps.  I called Betty and she said she is already starting to feel better.    THANK YOU, GOD!!!!! I may call Feel Rite and see if they will bring a product I want outside.  I am getting low on the enzyme I take for lactose intolerance and possible gluten intolerance.   I also need more almond milk, I accidentally bought almond milk with vanilla.  Online church starts in sixteen seconds at eleven a.m.   it was very good.                               I cannot recall his last name, but this man spoke.  I remember him from two years ago and one y

The Day After the Day After THANKSGIVING

Image
This morning, I called WalMart here in Lockport and asked an associate to check and see if they had this book. She found it in the fishing equipment aisle. When Peg called to tell me that she was going to WalMart and asked if I needed anything I asked her to pick up some THERA DROPS and this book.  She found both and brought them over.  I gave her some more Thanksgiving leftovers. She gave me the carcass of the turkey and I started making turkey/barley soup. I did marinated pork steaks in my grill for lunch ,along with mashed sweet potatoes.  For supper, Carrie and I had the soup, which turned out pretty good.   The negative part of the day was when Betty called to tell me that she is sick.

DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING 2020

Image
I was puttering around the house, picking up and organizing things for Carrie's visit home when Betty called saying that she wanted to go for a walk.  I told her that I had to go out and buy milk and go to NW Bank but after that we could meet up.  I went to Niagara Produce and NorthWest Bank and came home and called her and we agreed to meet up at the parking area kind of across from Widewaters.   We had a nice walk, heading east.  I took a few pictures.  We wondered why there were so many cars in this spot and when we got up close we could see that it is a Christmas tree farm.   This is in someones yard.  Betty said she thinks it is supposed to be a chicken.  It is huge.   We saw this rower...............rowing backwards. I arrived home and prepared lunch:  a turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce sandwich on French Peasant Bread, squash, macaroni and cheese, a devilled egg and a small piece of both cherry and banana cream pie.   Carrie arrived home at noon.  She was very happy!  S

THANKSGiVING 2020

The woman who was going to bake a banana cream pie for Peggy had a death in the family, so Peggy said she was going to call her and cancel the pie.  I had  blackberry tart and a cherry pie in the upstairs freezer, so I took them out and baked them.  I also started apple cider carrots in my small crockpot.  I did a load of laundry.   In the morning, I watched parts of the MACY's THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION and in the afternoon, I watched THE FREEDOM RIDERS again, but I fell asleep and missed part of it.   Peg and David came over around three p.m.  David looked at my dryer, and also at my security alarm system.  He could not find anything wrong with the dryer and suggested that I call a repair person to see if it can be fixed.  We put new batteries in my three motion detectors, so now my alarm system is working again.   They brought over turkey, stuffing and gravy and took home squash, cranberry sauce,  macaroni and cheese, devilled eggs, cherry pie, blackberry tart, brown and serve ro

Wednesday November 25, 2020 The Day Before Thanksgiving

I worked on setting up the rest my small Christmas trees this morning, and talked to Peggy on the phone.  She had neglected to tell me that she and David decided to have Thanksgiving dinner at their house.  So, I could put cleaning on hold!  I will take my "offerings" over to their house:   butternut squash, devilled eggs, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce and either brown and serve rolls or pumpkin bread.   For lunch I prepared creamed chipped beef on toast.  This was my first time using ALMOND Milk instead of regular milk and also I used gluten free bread for my toast.  It is just NOT the same.  While eating lunch I started to watch THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE documentary (on PBS on demand) about the 1961 Freedom Riders.   It is absolutely excellent.  I wonder what these peaceful people (if any of them are still alive) who participated in the Freedom Ride think about the BLM movement and the destruction that has taken place this year.   Mike came over again to get somethin

TUESDAY, 11/24/20 Ladies Life Group

After I dropped something off at the lawyers office,  I went to the Ladies Life Group at Freedom Church.  I arrived early, so I helped Elaine set the chairs up, in a circle, six feet or so apart.  There were nine of us there.   We finished up a little late and they were talking about where to go for lunch, but I left.  I stopped at Ales Sandwiches and got one of their three dollar barbecue beef sandwiches and brought it home for lunch. In the afternoon, I prepared devilled eggs and a huge pot of macaroni and cheese for Thanksgiving dinner and took them upstairs.  I was really getting tired and collapsed in bed a little before three p.m.  In the evening I talked to Becky on the phone.  She is leaving tomorrow for Pennsylvania to visit Scott and the kids.

I put two butternut squash in the oven first thing this morning.   They baked until I turned the oven off before I went to meet with Kevin Kopek at NorthWest bank this morning.   We filled out the necessary paperwork for PRINCIPAL, and transferred my TRANSAMERICA account (my IRA) and AMERICAN NATIONAL accounts to NW.  Then I went to Niagara Produce to get a gallon of cider, using the gift card I won at Gather and Give.   Then I went to the Y to pick up my free turkey dinner.  I thought there would be a line of cars, but there wasn't.    It was VERY GOOD!  After lunch I prepared my squash and my cranberry sauce.  I had a pile of mail today  including a letter from NYCM about a refund check that has not been cashed.  I sent a copy of it to Marianne Koenig.   My granddaughter, Cassandra, called to tell me that she has tested positive for COVID.  She was exposed at work (Starbucks) before they shut down for the second time several days ago.  She is quarantined to her room for the next

Sunday, November 22, 2020 Church and Celebrating Betty's Birthday

Image
Peggy and I decided to do something special for Betty's SEVENTY SEVENTH birthday.  Some restaurants are starting to close down due to the second wave of COVID.  We decided it might work for us to get together for lunch at FREEDOM CHURCH after the eleven a.m. service (which was very good, Jenny Campbell spoke)   Betty said she would like a POPEYE WRAP and Sweet Potato Fries from Kalamata's.    Peg and I checked their menu online and made our choices and before church this morning I went in and placed our order and paid for it.  After church I went over to pick our food up. We had lunch in one of the kids rooms upstairs.  We were all happy with our food.  Then we gave Betty her birthday present, the book about the Town of Hartland that I purchased at the History Center a few days ago.   She really liked it! When I got home from church, there was a phone message from Cassandra so I called her back.  Her STARBUCKS has closed down due to a worker being diagnosed with COVID.  Cassy

November 21st LOCKPORT COMMUNITY FARMERS MARKET

Image
I went to the Community Market for the first time this year. In the "winter" it is held inside Harrison Place.   hoping that HUMAN FARMS would be there so I could redeem my last four dollar coupon.  They were and I got a small head of broccoli and some onions.  I noticed this outside of the market , in an open area inside Harrison Place.  So, I went out and went inside They also had a booth set up outside, offering vintage items. After I left, I called Betty to tell her about Human Farms since she still had coupons left.  Then I went to GOULDS Christmas in the City.  Then I went  to the library to read todays paper.  I ran into Crystal there.   I spent the rest of the day at home.  I took a lot of my summer tops and put them in a closet upstairs and did a few other organizing tasks.   Peg and I arranged to celebrate Betty's birthday (the 23rd) tomorrow after church.  As soon as the service is over, I will order food from Kalamata's and then go pick it up and the thre

November 20th, 2020

I had the oil changed on my car this morning.  I talked with Elaine and Betty on the phone, also.   I decided it would be a good day to stock up on groceries and other items since Thanksgiving is next week and the stores will be full of people.  Also, from watching the news, I think maybe there will be another STAY AT HOME order coming soon due to the rising number of COVID cases in this area.   First I went to Aldi's where I spent close to one hundred dollars on all sorts of items including some frozen vegetables, a piece of salmon, ground beef, canned vegetables, etc.  I took those groceries home so I could get the frozen stuff into the freezer.  I made myself  a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch.  I have so much food, paper items and cleaning items that it was hard to find spots to put everything.  I still have two hundred dollars worth of SNAP benefits available.   I rested, read and watched TV the rest of the day. Betty called and I looked up some information about t

11/19./2020 Life Group and GATHER AND GIVE

Image
Peg's LIFE GROUP was at church this a.m.  Bobbie, Dee and I were in attendance.  Betty was unable to be there because she was helping Elaine Edmister with grocery shopping.  The Life Group was very good. Dee and I stayed after Life Group in order to help Peggy with set up for her event tonight:   GATHER AND GIVE.  It is kind of like a mini CareNet Banquet.   I filled small containers with creamer for coffee and put together forty salads, plus a couple of other small jobs.  All of this took about two hours, and then Peggy left for her hair appointment and Dee and I left.  I went to the training building next to the county jail to get a free bag of masks and hand sanitizer before going home. I had lunch at home and then took a nap (I think).   I met up with Crystal, whom I had invited to this event,  at Freedom Church.  I was hostess for one of Peggy's tables.  At my table were Robyn Brown, Jessica Edgecomb and her five year old twin girls, Crystal and Elizabeth.   The spaghett

November 18, 2020

Today is the day that the final real estate closing on Mary Anne's house will take place!!!   I took the keys I have been using to the lawyers office and dropped them off in their "drop box".  A part of me was concerned that something would happen to prevent the closing from happening, but that was hardly likely. I went to Aldi's to purchase a small turkey for Lydia Santiago.  She called the church the other day asking for information about who might be offering Thanksgiving baskets this year.  Peg tried to reach the Salvation Army since they are offering turkey dinners for pick up and delivery this year on Thanksgiving Day, but apparently they have not returned her call.  Peg wanted to buy her a small turkey, but none of the turkeys were small.  I noticed a package of TURKEY TENDERLOINS, so I picked up one of those and then purchased all of the items Lydia will need for her and her son to have a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving Day. The turkey cutlets, a box of stuffin

Update on 61 Millar Place (Mary Anne's house) and Windsong (11.17.20)

The clock has been moving forward towards the closing on Mary Anne's house, so I have been attending to various details.  I reminded Kevin (via his wife's FB page) that the leaves at Mary Anne's house need raking.  I figured he would ignore me, but he did go over and do SOME raking, but not all.  So, I hired Candy's grandson Ben to complete the job, and he did.   I checked to make sure both furnaces are working and they are.  (as of one p.m. today),  I took the rake and snow shovel home with me.  I had requested that they not be included in the estate sale, and John Urtel saved them for me.   I ran into Paula over there yesterday and I asked her if she would accompany me into the house  and apartment  while I checked on things and she agreed.  We went down into the basement and I took a picture of the water meter.  Then we went over to the garage/apartment and did the same.  I offered her the vacuum cleaner in the apartment and she took it.   Later on in the day I met

I met up with Betty at The History Center so we could check out this exhibit:   It was pretty good.  This was my favorite.    and then we went to the KENAN CENTER for this exhibit:   I liked this exhibit called LAYERS OF TIME, it was collages with bits and pieces of small paper memorabilia.  Betty did not like it.   On Saturday the 14th,  I    met up with Jenny, Marsha and Marlene at Denny's for breakfast in order to celebrate Marsha's birthday.   We had a nice time together.  Jenny floated the idea of the four of us, and maybe some others borrowing her daughters van and going to Sugar Creek, Ohio for a couple of days, maybe in the spring.  One of her relatives has a part in the play that is going on at the theatre there.   I went to DOLLAR TREE to see if I could get an Angel Food Cake mix and a can of lemon pie filling, but no luck, so I went to WM and they did have the cake mix, but no pie filling.  I want both of those items in order to make a desert that Myrna told me about

November 10th, 2020 Delivering Christmas Boxes

Image
I dropped my laptop off at JB's since it slid off the end of my bed last night and after that I could not get beyond a black screen.  Then I went to FREEDOM CHURCH for the Ladies Life Group, which was very good. I ran home for lunch and Peggy called while I was finishing up and we set a time to meet at FREEDOM to take the OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD boxes to a church out near Eastern Hills.  For the most part they were loaded on the van already, but there were a few more that someone dropped off.  I loaded them while Peg finished up in her office.   We found the church without any problems and dropped the boxes off.  Apparently, we were the first church to drop off boxes. On the way back to Lockport, we stopped at Aldi's.

November 9th, 2020 Geocaching and More

Image
It was a gorgeous fall day and Betty and I decided to get OUT THERE and enjoy the nice weather.  I followed her to the Hartland Town Fire Hall, and we located the parking area for the  nature trail, which is behind it.   We set off!   We were not too far along the trail when we found the geocache.   We continued on.  I am not sure how far we walked but the trail was straight, flat and well maintained.  Then we came to a spot where we had to decide to go either left or right.  We chose right and walked down a bit before deciding we might be better off turning around and returning to the parking area since we did not know if we had started walking a short loop that would take us back to where we chose right, or to the road or whatever,.....? After leaving Hartland we continued driving east on 104 and met up at MILLERS where we both purchased a sandwich.  I also purchased a bottle of Dr. Pepper and an apple fritter.  After leaving Millers we continued east on 104 until we got to the OTT

Sunday, October 8th, 2020

I woke up to a gorgeous and quite warm day.   I was completely dressed for church and then when I stepped outside I found that it was much warmer than I thought it would be so I changed into capris and a short sleeved top   Today was FREEDOM CHURCH'S first Sunday holding two services.  Instead of one service at ten a.m  we now have two services, one at nine a.m. and the second one at 11:00 a.m.   I went to the eleven a.m. service   I arrived early in order to save Myrna's favorite seat for her.   Betty picked Myrna and her granddaughter up and brought them to church.    There were fewer people in the eleven  a.m.  service than have been at the ten a.m. service, but that was to be expected   I stopped at SUBWAY and bought a six inch tuna sub to take home for my lunch.  I called Barb, hoping to find her at home and free to take a walk, but I had to leave a message.   I  was itching to get out and enjoy the gorgeous weather, and for a little while I entertained the idea of calli

FRIDAY, November 6th, 2020:   Elaine picked me up and then we went to get Nancy and we went to the Covenant Church in Gasport for their annual bazaar.  I bought several items, including two Christmas gifts (for Betty and Peggy), and some baked goods (including a plate of CUCIDATI for Pastor Ben) and home canned items.  Elaine dropped me off and I had lunch before going to Wegmans.   I also checked out a route to get to Windsong where I am going for a mammogram and dexa scan next week.  I got close to a hundred dollars worth of groceries including two nice pieces of salmon, rosemary sour dough bread and apple cider bread, two bags of gluten free pretzels, crackers, cheese, PAM, etc. When I got home, I raked a few leaves (three bags full) and put them in my trash.  I talked to Peggy on the phone twice, and watched couple of episodes of LAW and ORDER SVU. SATURDAY, November 7th, 2020:   Betty, Peg and I made plans to meet up for a walk.  Before I left, Pam called and wanted to get togeth

November 5th,2020 LIFE GROUP and more

I dropped an envelope with bills and receipts off at the lawyers office this morning before going to Peg's life group.  Betty, Dee and I were there in person and Bobbie attended it virtually through a Facebook room.   Peg had to take a phone call and handed leadership of the group over to me for a few minutes, which I did not expect.  I guess I did OK. After Life Group, Peg asked me to go to BENDERS CHRISTIAN BOOK STORE with her to pick up communion cups............something special for use during the pandemic.  I went with her.  I picked up another OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD box at Benders.     I had noticed that someone left a box only half filled at the church, so I went to DOLLAR TREE and got more items and emptied the half filled box (which was a kind of small box, anyways) and filled up the new box.   When I got home, I found that David, Peg, Mike and Dominic had been to my house and that they had removed the huge safe from my bedroom closet.   Wow, now I have some extra clos

In the morning I got caught up on a few things at home, and made egg salad and roasted beets in the oven for my lunch.  Becky called and gave me some information about upcoming events.  After lunch, I met up with Marlene at a small park along the canal in Gasport so that she and I could do some geocaching  There is a geocache in a bush there, which we found.   The log was too wet to sign, so I took this picture. Then we crossed the bridge and parked and headed east on the trail.  We walked a full mile east looking for geocaches along the way.  We only found one of them called LOG ROLL.   There is one hid near the SPILLWAY BRIDGE which goes over 18 Mile Creek, but we could not find it.   Marlene doesn't have a GPS or an account, but it was her idea to go out geocaching today and she took a lot of time looking and braved some pretty rough terrains   I arranged for Marlene and I to take Pam out for a birthday supper today.  Pam said that she wanted to go to STEAK, STONE  and SUSHI,
